(not sure where to post this, so I posed here and in Restaurants)

My sister in law that we are taking to WDW for the first time has severe Crohns disease. She is limited to soups, and very light food. I have two questions that I'm hoping someone can help me answer!!

1. What counter service restaurants do you know of that have soup?

2. If we bring our own "soup at hand" is there access to a microwave anywhere in the parks? Would a CM help us with this? Anyone with this type of experience?

Thanks so much!

First, are you sure she can only have soup? I have a good friend with severe Crohn's (five surgeries), and while she needs to avoid certain foods--nuts, corn, seeds, and fatty fried foods, she can otherwise eat most anything.

If your SIL's Crohn's is that active at the moment, I'm not sure that a trip to WDW is really the best thing. Most people with Crohn's go through periods of "remission" interspersed with "episodes." During these "episodes," most patients are too ill to travel, especially someplace like WDW.

I'm not saying this is the case with your SIL, but I think that it's quite possible she's able to eat a lot of things other than soup.

Soup is the only thing she is comfortable eating that she knows won't cause her problems. This is her first vacation in more than 10 years and wants to play it as safe as possible. any help out there?

I can't think of a single counter service place with soup, nor are there public microwaves in the parks. I suppose if she bring "Ramen Noodles" she'll be able to get a cup of hot water for them.

You mention she can eat "light foods." Why not have her take a look at the menu's on Deb's site, www.wdwig.com and maybe she'll see things she'll be able to eat. She'll be able to get a plain grilled chicken breast at most sit down places as long as you call in advance to arrange it. You might also want to look into some of the places that serve fish (Blue Zoo, Flying Fish, Kona Cafe, etc.) as I know that's something most Crohn's patient's can tolerate well.

My DH is on a very low-fat diet for medical reasons, and someone on the DL side advised that we call the head chefs for the two parks to discuss. They can advise us on what foods would be low-fat, and also which foods they could adjust the fat upon request (prepare specially for DH.)

It sounds like it would be worth your while to do the same; I have the names and numbers to call for DL, not sure who to contact at WDW, but shouldn't be too hard to find out. Good luck! :)
