there a few tools out there to use. The loudest is a hammer and setter, you can get them in a kit.
This is the hole punch, you tap it with the hammer to make a hole where you want it. There are 3 tip sizes:

this is the setter, you hit the back side of the eyelet til it fans out flat.

Hammer:

then there is the silent setter, same concept as above but you twist and push down instead of using a hammer:

then there is the Crop-a-dile (CAD)!!!! this is a dream tool!! It even goes through the mickeyhead eyelets without messing them up. 1 down fall though is you can't use it in the middle of a page, it does not reach very far.

I have the Silent setter and the crop-a-dile. I rarely use the Silent setter but I do if I need something where the CAD does not reach. The eyelets stay in place when the thin metal on the back breaks and fans out.

Second vote for the CAD. I bought one a few months ago and I haven't stopped using eyelets and brads on stuff. For some reason, I could NEVER get the hammer thing to work so I gave up on using eyelets.

I got my CAD with a Mike's 40% coupon, which makes it an even better deal
