I just noticed that both of our passports expired! Can anyone tell me how long it takes to get them renewed!!! AHHHHHH! I can't believe this is happening we have less than 60 days!! HELP PLEASE!!!!!

Normal passport renewal turnaround is about 6 weeks. For an extra fee, you can request expedited service and reduce the turnaround to about 2 weeks.

(DH recently renewed his, and it was returned FAST- I think about 3 weeks. This was with just the regular service.)

Here's where you can get the official info and instructions:

There is an option when you renew your passports for quicker service.....its extra money but in your case....I guess it's your only option. ;) I think it takes around 10-14 days with the quick service. (but not totally sure ;) )

Have a nice time!

You know, if you are going on the Disney Cuise and that is why you are asking, you only need to have a state issued id and yoru birth cert.

I think I read somewhere that you can use an expired passport for boarding purposes since they just need to verify your identity. You might want to call DCL and check before you order new passports.

Both my my and my husband's renewals came in less than 2 weeks. The renewal did not require sending the birth certificate along as long as it was a recent expiration. I would just send for the renewals today, and if by some strnage chance you didn't have them back, you still have your birth certificates.

I,also, do remember reading that an expired passport (within a certain amount of time) would work for ID.

I want to reiterate what femmfaerie saif, you only need your drivers license and birth certificate on a DCL cruise.

You can get your passport renewed in a matter of a few days if necessary, but it's expensive.

This is mostly for business travelers, but certainly a leisure traveler could use it as well.

We sent our renewal passport applications in on June 30th, we got confirmation that they were received at the office on July 2, we are still waiting for them to come back.

If you have an office nearby your home like we do in NYC you can schedule a time and go directly and with the extra fee get your passport same day.

More information:
http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_expedite.html

The links for local offices is not working but it's at the bottom of the page

The office will only issue you a passport the same day or the next day if it is an emergency, like an illness in the family etc at least that is the rule in SF. I would strongly suggest that if there an office nearby that you call and confirm that you can make an apppointment.

I understand that expired passports are no longer accepted, but if you are a US citizen then all you need is an official birth certificate and drivers license.

We just sent off for our passports...and my renewal for my recently expired passport. From the looks of it...if you got down to your local passport office this week you should have time to recieve your new passport by your trip date....with out paying the extra for expedited service. Keep in mind...renewal fee is $55...and to have it rushed/expedited in an additional $60. To renewal all you need is you expired passport...new photos (2) and your drivers licenses (I think.... I remember her checking our ID with what we had on the passport forms).

I'd just like to give an update here. We sent our passport renewal applications out on June 30th, our new passports arrived today in the mail July 31st.
