what is your recommendation for a table service meal at MGM? we will be 6 adults and 3 children. because of the children i was thinking we would have fun at 50's Prime Time Cafe or the Sci-Fi Dine-In. my concern w/ the sci-fi is that we wouldn't be able to all sit together. is this true? i would hate to be split up. i hear mixed reviews about the food at both. just wondering what anyone would suggest for a party of 6 adults and 3 kids. thank you!

Haven't been to either, so I can't tell you about the food, but I do know about the seating at Sci Fi. The "cars" that you can sit in are really 3 sets of two- person "tables". So, your group would be split between two cars. There is also non-car seating, and I'm not sure, but you probably could seat 9 there. I believe the non-car seats are picnic-type tables?

We are planning to eat at Sci Fi when we go to WDW in the fall. I've heard that the food is nothing to write home about, but the atmosphere is terrific! We are not food critic types, so I'm sure it will be fine for us. If you decide to do Sci Fi, I've been told to stick with burgers or sandwiches- and their shakes are supposed to be great!

We ate at the Sci-Fi last year. Food was okay. Service was great. My kids did not like it. They did not understand the whole drive'in theme. My DH and I enjoyed remembering back to when we were kids and the drive in's. Knowing you have more adults than kids and have been to drive in's as a kids, you may appreciate this restaurant more.

We have been to the Prime Time but it has been a few years. I do remember that we enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

Hope this helps a bit. Have a great trip. :)

We eat at both EVERY trip. LOVE them both! We usually eat at Sci-Fi in the early afternoon. The food is great. It's kind of an upscale QS rest. The theming is great but dark and you would have to sit in seperate cars.
The 50's Prime is one of our over all favorites. If we ever go to WDW w/ someone else we HAVE to make a stop here. The food is excellent it is a comfort food menu ie. meatloaf, fried chicken, pot roast. Things like that. There is also a kids menu w/ hotdogs, chicken fingers, hamburg. But the atmosphere here is unreal and the CM's really get into there roles! Trust me you will have an AMAZING time here! It is great fun in a larger group. PS... Remember to eat all your veggies before ordering dessert!!! Have a blast! You'll love it!

Sci-Fi is a great place to experience and even though I don't think 9 of you could be in a car together, perhaps if you told them up front they could put you in cars side by side...which is pretty close together. The food is not the greatest...althought I couldn't complain about anything I've ever had there...their hamburgers are great, the atmosphere is terrific. Another table service option we always enjoy is Mama Melrose's the food is always great and it's a nice, quiet break at MGM. :wave2:

I would vote for 50's Prime Time Cafe. We love it and DS usually has a ball in there. We also love the food in there.

I've been to both many times and would say it depends on what you're looking for. If you want to have a conversation with the group, don't go to the sci-fi. Neither one has what I would call great food-its edible. They're both fun for the theme, though.

I think Sci-Fi has some bigger cars for larger parties, so you might be able to sit together.

However, our favorite table service at the Studios is the Brown Derby.

well, i was trying to pick between these two because i thought they sounded like fun. but i do want the food to be more than just "edible". i don't want to be responsible for picking a restaurant that nobody ends up liking. is the food really that bad, and is there somewhere else that is also fun, but has better food? maybe we should skip a TS restaurant at MGM altogether??

This is my personal opinion-food is very personal. That being said, I don't think either of those two places score THAT high in places like the Unofficial guide on food quality based on reader reviews-but there are people who love the food. I personally, like a previous poster, think the best meal I get at MGM is at the Brown Derby. They have a way of making almost every restaurant in WDW feel fun.

We have never eaten at either of those because every time we go to MGM wen have to eat at Mama Melrose. Its one of our favorite WDW
restaurants.

However my mother took my DSs to Sci Fi last year and the enjoyed it. They did stick to burgers and hotdogs, but from what they said those were good. And DM said she never saw DSs sit so still...they loved the movies. ;)
