I have 20 lbs of pork butt cooking. I posted this here cause i dont want to waste $$ if this pork doesn turnout.

I have it cooking and i look over and the light is off. It was on. I adjusted the temp a lil and it went back on. After a couple of mins it off, couple of mins later its back on. When the light goes off is it still cooking? I read one post that posted theirs had an automatic timer and hers turned off and she didnt know.

If anyone know PLEASE tell me what it means and if it will be ok. I have a huge party for tomorrow- Thanks inadvance

Could it be like an oven light. When it heats up again, the light goes on? Then when it reaches the desired temperature, the light goes off?? Google your brand of roaster and see what it says.

ok, I tried a quick search but didnt see anything. Right now I'm taking a break from 15 lbs of potato salad. I put my manual away for future info but I cant remember where-lol!

BTW- I have an Oster stainless steel 22qt that i bought at Sam's or costco

Do you have a meat thermometer?

You could always cut into/poke it and see what color the liquid is.

Do you have an oven you can transfer it to?

Sounds like it's doing what an oven does. When the heating elements turn off, so does the light. When they come on, the light turns on.

ok it was 185* and its been cooking for 7 1/2 hrs at 225-200

I opened the lid(i know i'm not suppose to) and it has a lot of juice. I put 1 cup of water but there was a lot of juice released. Should i take some out or leave it?????

you probably already figured it out by now, but it should be done if the meat internal temp is 185

I'm sure you've already figured this out one way or the other but I just wanted to join the others in saying it is probably a "heating" indicator. The light on my roaster goes on while it is heating, then clicks off once it reaches the set temperature. So when cooking something large it goes on an off several times in the course of normal operation.

You had me intriqued, so I had to look around myself. I think it is an indicator light to tell you the oven is hot enough or is heating up to your temperature.

I couldn't find a manual on line anywhere, though.

This is how ours works.

ok it did cook so must be heat indicator. It reads 199* so did i over cook it???? I read pork should be 180* but i read a lot 200*. I havent pulled the meat apart so wish me luck

A "Process Control" person here. If you take the lid off and the temperature of the roaster cools down, AND the light comes back on to heat the roaster back up to the "Setpoint" ( selected roasting temperture), then the light is illuminated to signifiy that the heating element is "on" or energized= Heating. When the internal temperature of the roaster reaches the "Setpoint" the light should turn off.

Another way to test this is to wait untill the light is illuminated, turn the "setpoint" lower, the light should go off, becasue the temperature of the roaster is higher than the setpoint. Raising the "setpoint" above the current temperature of the roaster should result in the light coming on, signifying the heaters are on, to raise the tempertaure. :stir:

Thanks everyone. My roaster works fine and the meat cooked.

One more question, the roaster has a shiny coating on the inside, Well after the 1st or 2nd use the bottom lost most of the enamal/coasting , theres only a medium oval coating left in the middle of the bottom. The sides are fine. Will this make a dfifference in taste or give off a burnt taste? I used the rack so the meat didnt touch the bottom. Thanks

That's what I think. My oven works like that...when the light is on it means the oven is running and working to raise the temperature. Once the oven reaches the temperature it is set for, the light goes off and the oven cycles off until the temperature drops again and then it turns back on.

When I started Googling your roaster, I saw that was a complaint with a lot of the people who had this roaster.
