Help - ebayer w/neg. would you let bid?

At Christmas last year I started e-baying and I ordered an item for my ds and paid $30 (I always pay right away through PayPal if possible) Never got the item and tried to communicate with the seller, no response. After about 10 weeks I left negative feedback and the seller retaliated by leaving negative feedback for me (said I "claimed I never received merchandise"). This seller has over 1000 positive feedbacks and about 300 negatives (with all of them saying they never received the merchandise). Can't figure out why this person apparently sends items sometimes but not others but with a big-ticket item I wouldn't take a chance. That's the only bad experience I've had but I'm always wary now.

It's not like he has to be honest. If you have a low feedback, I would not leave a neg. If you have say, 19 feedbacks and he leaves you a retaliation neg, you will drop to 95%, and I personally don't even look at auctions if it's below 98%. So while it would be nice to warn others, you may be cutting of your nose to spite your face.

One other thing. I have had to use my g-mail account to reach hotmailers and other free email addy's. Also, as an AOLer, I am also finding out (once I do the NPB and get their messages, or call them on my cell phone) that my email to them, is ending up in their spam file. It's been that way since the 10th. So they just aren't hearing from me (not eveyone checks their spam), and they think I'm the one with the poor communication skills.

with all the power disruptions across the country it is important to be aware that some bidders may be in an emergency situation not of their creating.

I had someone I didn't hear from; they had great feedback and it was puzzling. I finally heard 2 weeks later--they had had to go to Florida to help aging parents left homeless. It could have been a story but felt "real."

Just this week, I had someone who says she lost both her parents this past week, and another person who had a major stroke in their family, and they were the person "in charge". I tend to beleive them, because I checked and although both are avid bidders on eBay, neither have any bids this week. But who knows.

You don't even want to deal with someone like that.
