We are going to WDW in June for my ds's 13th birthday. I told him he could pick anywhere to dine and he said he wanted to eat somewhere "fancy" where he could wear a tie. Not sure where he came up with that because he doesn't even own a tie but hey it's what he wants.

So what restaurant would we not look out of place at besides Victoria and Alberts?

Citricos immediately comes to mind, as well as Todd English's Blue Zoo.

Is he a huge steak eater?

My DS10 loves Shula's. He & DH go there every trip (which is about 3 times a year now). A tie would definitely be fine to wear there.

He loves steak and I thought of taking him to Yachtsman hoping we wouldn't look too out of place but I'm just not sure. I'll look into Shula's.

Citricos is closed on the day I wanted to do this but could change things around. decisions, decisions.

I'd say Blue Zoo, Shula's, or really honestly- any place he wants to. You'll see such a variety of clothing at the signature restaurants from those wearing ties and shirts to those in nice polos with shorts to the occassional signature meal dress code violator. How about Artist Pointe?

I think that your son would love the CALIFORNIA GRILL. The food is Great the atmosphere is wonderful, the view is the best of any restaurant anywhere and if you get the ADR at the right time you can see Wishes.

We are meeting friends after for Illuminations so I want to keep it in the Epcot area. I need to find out what his idea of fancy is. For all I know he could be talking about WCC:rotfl:

He can wear a tie anywhere. But, he'll be the only guy wearing one. The only place you'll ever see ties is at V&A and, even then, they're not required. You may see one on a conventioneer now and then at the Swolphin restaurants, but even that is rare anymore.

I recall we were at CG once and we watched as the staff prepped one of the window tables with gorgeous flowers, champagne, etc. We thought -- oh goody -- we're going to see a dressed up couple and a proposal. What fun!

Instead, two couples trooped to the table, the men in sandals, baggy faded cargo shorts, t-shirts and baseball caps. We didn't know what they were celebrating, but lost interest quickly given the way they were dressed. So, if people celebrating a special occasion show up looking like that, you can imagine how few and far between are the ties at CG Or anywhere on property for that matter.

True, he may be the only one in a tie but he doesn't really care. He likes the menu at Yachtsman so I'll get an adr there. I guess I was the one more worried about looking out of place but that is silly.

Don't worry about lookin' silly - plenty of people look silly and they are not wearning ties! In my opinion - I like that he wants to wear one, so cute! If you are looking to stay at Epcot - I'd suggest Le Cellier (it books fast though), and Les Chefs de France too - they offer great meat options - so it is not 100% an extreme French menu. I think if he wants to wear a tie, and feel in the "midst" of something special and unique Les Chefs de France might be the ticket. Enjoy the trip and the meal!!:wizard:

I agree. I think it's marvelous he wants to dress nicely. I wish everyone did that at the resort signatures. We always dress up, it makes the meal feel more special.

Yachtsman is a great choice and I do not think he'll look out of place in his tie there.

I hope all of you have a great birthday celebration.

He might try eating while wearing one before he makes up his mind about doing this. And I think it great he wants to take a step up from normal. I take it he sees 13 as a significant step toward adulthood and this may be a symbol to him that he is getting there! :cool2:

I know you said Epcot Resort Area, but I would suggest Artist Point at the Winderness Lodge. He would not be out of place wearing a tie.
We took my DH and DBIL there for their March birthdays. They made such a fuss over them and even got a complimentary dessert. The men were pleased that I chose that for their birthday dinner. Food was very good.
We were in park attire, having just come from ESPN weekend, but there were suits there also for Saturday night dinner.

I would not think that a tie is out of place in any of the resort signature restaurants - Yachtsmens Steakhouse included. That one especially has a very elegant feel to it. White linen table cloths and beautifully set tables. To be honest, I have never been entirely comfortable going to these restaurants in casual park attire even if what I'm wearing is in line with the specified dress code and always try to dress up a little for them. I don't think he'll look out of place at all.

Why would he look out of place anywhere? I think that's a great thing for a soon to be 13 year old male to want to do. And he can still even wear jeans with a tie.

Reminds me of the time with my son. We joked that he would have to wear "classic clothes" for Christmas Day. "Classic clothes" were nice pants and a tie. We went back home for that Christmas and damn it if the kid didn't pack a tie! And on Christmas morning, he dressed up and made everyone else do the same. I will never forget that day. My son was five years old when he did that. Now he's 25 and the last time he wore a tie was for his wedding.

Enjoy this while you can.

The Yachtsman would be a great choice. They have great steaks hand cut daily and all the food it prepared fresh everyday.

The Yachtsman was recently named the #1 Disney owned signature restaurant on Disney property.

They have great desserts, I have ordered birthday cakes for my many celebration dinners there and they have always been great. The private dining number is 407-934-3105 and they can tell you cake options if you would be interested in ordering one.

I hope he has a great birthday dinner!!!!

I think Epcot has some great places to dine & seem very "fancy"- Boulangerie Patisserie (france) is a great place & looks upscale. I would show him some pics of the places in Epcot & the menu's and let him choose. Especially if your meeting up in Epcot for Illuminations it saves you from running around.

Good for him! :thumbsup2 And I think the Yachtsman is a great choice!!

The YC/BC hold a lot of business functions and conventions. He will not look out of place, at all!
