Anyone who has driven from this area, what city and state did you stop at on the way down and how long did you drive before you stopped? TY

Cant really give you any advice but wanted you to know you arent alone. We are leaving tomorrow night in the middle of the night, driving as far as we can get on the 18th and arriving at POP on the 19th. We are hoping to make it as far through SC as possible. It is myself, DH and 5 yr old dd. It is our first trip to WDW and first long distance drive so we are just looking at it as an adventure. Where are you staying?
I will be watching this thread for advice from other people.
Have a great trip :Pinkbounc

I've never driven it, but looking at maps.google.com directions, it's 11-12 hours from Buffalo to Charlotte, NC. That is taking I-90 down to Erie and then down I-79 then to I-77. Google says Orlando is 20+ hours straight through...

It looks like another hour and you would be to Columbia and yet another and you could be around I-95.

so if you leave at 10PM look to be around Charlotte, NC by 10AM (providing you drive straight through)

sorry I can't speak from experience...
Good luck, and I hope you have safe travel!

Later,
Paul

I admire those of you who drive long trips. I just can't do it. I hate the four hour drive I am going to do on Sunday to go to my parents in Tulsa. I can't imagine driving for two days.

We are actually going to palm bay first for 3 days and then Orlando. Palm bay is about 1hr15min from Orlando. My husband has a job interview and was very last minute. We've driven onece before and started late (8:30pm)and only got as far as PA(lol) at 1 am because we were all exhausted. We said we would never drive again, but we decided to make a mini vacation out of it and take the kids, and in order to save money we are driving. We have 2 tvs in our car and a dvd player so that keeps the kids occupied. We are leaving Saturday after my daughters dance class which is over at 10:30am. Have a safe drive.

I've drive a few times from your area (took I-90 to Erie, then south on I-79/77/26/95). From Buffalo, I would try to make Charlotte NC for an overnight.

There is a "shortcut" that bypasses Charleston WV. This shortcut reduces your driving time by approx 45 minutes to 1 hr. Merge onto US 19 S at exit 57 (from I-79) towards Summersville/Beckley. Watch out for speedtraps!!

It's a pretty easy drive.

Ditto on the US 19 route, it saves time, just follow the limits. Its a nice road though, easy travel.

Charlotte should be a go for you. If you plan to just stop when you get tired, stop at a rest area on the way and pick up on eof the hotel guides the hand out. It provides coupons for walk ins at hotesl along the way and its a great tool to see whats available at the next exit as far as hotels.

I haven't driven down but just wanted say hi to my fellow buffalonian and express my imense jealousy!!! I WANT TO GO!!! :)

We are about 4-5 hours from you at the border of NY and Ct and we have drivin done on several occasions. Our first day driving we get to Middle to end of Virginia. This is leaving around 1pm and stopping about 11 pm. You'll be taking 81 down? You may make better time rather than we would when we go 95 because we end up on the Jersey Turnpike then DC. Overall travel time should be 28 hours ( with many things happenind that aren't planned)
