Help!! Digital Photos to Disc at WalMart??

I last visited the DLR back in 2004 and never used a digital camera back then. I've since got a fantastic little Kodak Z740. Back in 2004 I was lugging my SLR around (I'm a Photography student so use my SLR for most things) with me everyday. But it was awkward carrying such a large camera (and bag) around everyday. So I'm taking both this year - digital for everyday use and SLR for planned shots which I want on 35mm so I can print them myself at Uni.

I've got a 1GB Kodak SD card so I'll be OK for a few days at a time but when that reaches capacity I'll be stuck. Without taking my laptop, (or using a computer at the hotels business center which I'm not even sure you can do and I wouldn't really want to even if I could) I won't have anyway of downloading the pics or saving them to discs. I used to pick up my film supplies at the WalMart on North Euclid Street in Anaheim back in 2004 and remember them having a HUGE photo center department. I was just wondering whether they offer a downloading service where I can go there say every few days and get everything on the SD card written to discs? Because I'll already be taking 2 cameras in my hand luggage, I don't really want to take my laptop aswell. Anyone know if WalMart do that?? And how much?

I must sound like such an idiot but I have no idea how your photo places work and what kinda of services they offer. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. ;)

I dont know about Walmart, but I know that the Target on Harbor has a kodak machine that you can download the card on to a cd. Its about $8. The only complaint about it is, you have to download some kodak software in order to view the pictures. I'm guessing Walmart would have something simular. I know that Target, Walgreens, etc usually have them.

Hi simba_one,

Walmart can download your pics to a disc. Closer than Walmart, though, is a Target, about 2 miles south on Harbor Blvd, at the corner of Harbor & Chapman.

We did the same thing on our last trip to WDW. My sisters and I all downloaded our discs (mine is 512) a few times. In the Orlando area we did it once at Walmart and once at Sam's Club (we prefer Sam's-it's a little cheaper, you get more on one disc, and you can grab a quick bite, pizza-hot dogs-even root beer float-Yummy!)

At Walmart it took 2 discs to clear my card and Sam's Club took one. I know here in Corona I've gotten over 400 images on one disc even though they say you can only get about 200.

Okay-I did some checking and Walmart is $2.82 +tax per discs (100 images) If you fill your 1GB you'll probably need 4-5 discs. Sam's Club (membership required) is $2.88 put holds more (see above). Couldn't get a price from target.com but figure at least $1-$2 more than Walmart. There is one other option, you can get a disc made at DL but it's very expensive-I think about $13 each (100 images per disc) Before I spent that much I'd buy a second disc (which I'm thinking of doing before next trip to WDW in Sept.)

Have a great time-take lots of pictures (I used to be an SLR snob but now I :lovestruc my Kodak DX7590-I didn't even take my Canon Rebel SLR on my last trip.)

Hi! Have you checked if the hotel you are staying at has a business center. You might want to check into that as well. If they do, ask about the media abilities. Like does it have a usb port or can it record your info onto Cd's.

You also could invest in a portable storage device that you can store thousands of pics on. I can not live without my laptop, but for long air trips I leave the lappy at home and take the portable had.

I was thinking a previous post indicated you could do this at the camera store in DL (on Main St.?) It probably costs more than Walmart or KMart, but might be more convenient...

We're bringing an extra memory card as well as a small laptop. I'm hoping to journal the events of the day each evening... :)

I have a kodak digital camera, I buy some 1 gig sd cards and 1 gig USB flash drives. set your camera to save pictures in jpg format. some of the DLR hotels have business centers with computers, 6.00 per hour, I think. my kodak will upload right to the USB flash drive, or you can save it on the computer and then move them to a USB flash drive. I did this every day I was there. also, a side note, in the DL hotel business center, a employee has a registered copy of ridemax installed on one of the computers. great for planning your day out.

I bought an extra memory card before our last trip to Disneyland, so I wouldn't have to worry. I know it's not the cheapest option, but it may be the easiest and least stressful route to go.

WOW!! Thanks SO much for all the helpful responses. A lot of very useful information there. :thumbsup2

Looks like I'll be getting them saved on disc at Target then. I searched for a Sam's Club but there's none near Anaheim??

I use flash drives already (to transfer Uni work, etc. - I use a 1GB and 512MB) but if I were to use them, I'd still need to save them to disc myself at some stage. And seeing as there's a lot of stores around that'll do it for me, I'll just go for that option. That way as soon as I get home I can take the discs to a photo shop over here, put the disc in and select what pics I want to print - all of them I know already. Lol.

I'll be staying at the HGI which is near enough on the corner of Harbor and Chapman so I'll be right next to the Target. Stayed at the Hyatt in 2004 (opposite it) and for the life of me cannot remember seeing the Target. I remember seeing the trolleys, but not the store itself. :rotfl: Thanks for the map Mary Jo.

Again, thanks so much for everyones replies. It's so nice to get helpful, friendly advice from people who live there, know the place well and know what they're talking about.

There is a souvineer shop near subway accross the street, and they will put multiple cards on a disc for you, think it was like $4.00. This was a year ago.

I think I MAY know the one you're talking about. Is it the one that's the very last store on the left? If you're looking at Subway from across the street. Or if you're outside then it's the one to the right and right at the end. And there's a pizza place on opposite side (like the last store on the left if you're standing outside Subway) of the same little lot?? It's great news that so many places do just what I'm after all within the immediate vicinity. :cool1:

I am now using a digital camera and to be honest, I don't know what I'm douing with it over here, never mind over there!!! I have taken about 70 pictures so far but when i want to put them on my computer, I end up putting the new ones and all the old ones on again as I have no idea how to keep them!!! Me and technology don't go too well!!!. I'll take my good old 35mm as well, bought it for 415 in target 2 years ago...lol.

Hey Ella,

I'm really well thanks. Counting down the days!!! :goodvibes How are you? 6 weeks this Friday?? O-M-G! It's going SO fast. You have to let us know what the Sheraton Park is like. The pics of the rooms in the new Vigin brochure look really nice. A lot better than the old ones.

Although I LOVE my SLR, Digital is the way to go. It's so much easier. What kind of software do you use when you download your pics to your computer? Because it should download them to folders automatically (probably named by date of which they were taken) and tell you that it's only downloading X amount because you already had X amount downloaded. The easiest way is just to take a bunch of pics then download them all to your computer then delete them all off the camera/card. Then you won't be downloading the same pic multiple times. I'm not that advanced with the whole Digital thing yet (as you can see by this topic - lol) but it's fool-proof really. I don't know what camera you have so what software you have for it but with Kodak you just plug the cable into the camera and into the computer and it prompts you and you just click and it sorts them for you. And then all you have to do is transfer them to wherever you want. You'll get the hang of it. Just practice LOADS with taking pics before you get out there. You want to be comfortable with the camera and confident that the pics you're taking are good. And that's what;s so good with Digital - delete if you don't like.

Keep in touch. Fellow Brits need to keep one another excited about their Disney trips!!! :thumbsup2

Simba,
its a Kodak camera, i bought it with a printing dock (which I've never used...lol). I've not deleted any pictures off my camera in case my computer crashes and I lose them...lol.
I'm ok taking the pictures and deleting them if they are rubbish ones, I just need to practise more at putting them on the computer.
I'll let you know how the hotel is and if I get a chance, i will go into yours and tell you my first imressions.

Ella1: The memory in your camera is easier to corrupt that the HD in your computer. You should take your SD card to a place that makes disc's from memory and then clear the pics off of your cam so you can take more..essentially you are backing up your back-up(HD and SD card) Once you get the master disc made, you make another copy(disc's are cheap) and use that disc for your photo editing and put the master away for safe keeping. Offload your camera often, that way you memories are safe.
My daughter has a Kodak C530 and it only takes her a few minutes with the Kodak Easyshare software or if you are running XP, the computer will do it automatically to the "my pictures" folder.

Good shooting,

Another option (although pricey) is that you can download pictures to CD on the Kodak machine in the Photo Center - they charge you for the CD ($12 I think).

If you have an iPod, you can also get a relatively cheap adapter that will let you copy your pictures to that.

Aww, thanks Ella. If you do get the chance to check out the HGI I'd be so grateful. 'Coz we're absolutely DYING to know what it's like!! ;)

If you have a Kodak then you'll most probably have the Kodak EasyShare software like blackjackdelta says. It's the easiest software to use. Depending which version of Windows you're running, just plug it in and go. It'll guide you all the way.

MrShiny
Would I be able to get all my pics from a full 1GB SD Card (just over 800 pics) onto a disc at the Kodak machine? 'Coz $12 isn't much to keep me taking pics. I'd only buy MAX 10 (I dfo take A LOT of pics) and that's not that bad I don't think.
