HELP!!! DD was sent home with......

I did find live ones in her head!!! It was soooo GROSS!!! I am still itching!!! I think I may just get some more shampoo and do everyone tonight...at least it will keep my mind at ease!!!

The nurse said to use gel on the kids and even some hairspray everyday too....she said they don't like the "chemicals"......makes me feel a little better too...since I use alot of crap on my hair!

Oh yeah Lisa...then you know the pain - they are gross and after I had washed her head and still saw live ones - that was it. I was ready to cut her hair off but even better I wrote a letter to ex and told him to get the house clean or she isn't coming down again. She's had lice 3 times - once from daycare, oh wait 4 times, and the other 3 from after a visit with her dad and his family.

I found live lice in DD's hair every time that I combed it. Until we got the industrial strength (prescription) shampoo. When first found out that she had lice, we had her shower in our bathroom with the Rid shampoo. When she was done, she hung her wet towel over the shower door. When I later went into our bathroom to straighten up, I found that the towel she had used (which just happened to be a very light color) had live bugs crawling on it. They were also crawling down the glass shower door. Thank goodness that DW was not home to see that as I know that she would have been totally creeped out. Much like I was.

With due diligence, you will get rid of these pesky creatures. As Nancy was saying, the bugs cannot live for very long without being in contact with a person, so focus your energies on getting the nits out of your DD's hair. We just threw blankets and sheets over the furniture and made certain that nobody else sat in the same place as DD until we were certain that the bugs were all gone.

There was a lice outbreak at my children's school last year. I'm into herbs & natural healing so I looked up lice in one of my books and it said to use lavender essential oil (the true essential oil NOT fragrance oil) ,rosemary and geranium oil . You add 27 drops of each oil to 1 ounce of beeswax and 2 ounces of castor oil ( I used olive oil ) in a double boiler ( I don't have one so I just used a glass bowl over a pan of water). Stir untill creamy & cool. Put this mixture on the head making sure to get all the hair covered. Let this stay on overnight then shampoo ( it took 2X's to wash it all out ). I used a shower cap to cover the head. After shampooing I rinsed my childs hair with vinagar & combed out with a nit comb. As a precaution against them getting lice again I added several drops of the same oils to the shampoo when I washed their hair untill the outbreak was over. I also bagged everything not washable & cleaned like mad ! I used the same oils for cleaning and made a spray ( water, vinagar & essential oils ) to spray the couch, chairs & rugs, mattresses ect.. I almost forgot-try not to get the essential oils on plastic as it can mar it.

I don't think you will get the nits out in one day, I can't believe they would even suggest bringing her in the next day. That is how lice spreads. Leaving the RID on longer than usual is a good idea, I got the prescription strength stuff which is 5 times or more stronger and had to leave it on all night for DD 3 years ago. The RID just did not kill the lice. Don't go too crazy with the cleaning, I wouldn't bother spraying the couches, just vacuum good. Make sure her and her sister stay apart with their heads. The mayo is an old wives tale. Good luck. This too shall pass!!

This was a problem at DD's school and it was suggested that to kill and remove the nits was to use a plain hair conditioner! I know it sounds like it won't work but it does. Saturate the hair with a cheap conditioner and let sit for 20 minutes. Then take the nit comb and start removing the nits. It seems the conditioner suffocates them and then lets them easily slide off the hair shaft. Repeat every couple of days until you are sure they are all gone. And with the white coniditioner, you could easily see the nits.

I now don't let DD wash her hair everyday! And when she does, she rinses with vinegar!

Be prepared, it seems like there is an outbreak and what usually happens is that nobody says anything and the cycle keeps going on and on and on!

Also, you can use a temporary hair colour. Apparently they don't like the chemical composition of the dye!

Feeling your pain.

Well, last night (day 2) DH checked her hair (I just couldn't do it anymore!!)....and he didn't find any nits! Hopefully, they won't come back.

Anytime she scratches her head....I am asking...are you itchy???....I am a nervous wreck still about it! I am still itchy everytime I think about it. Actually, everyone I talk to is!

I like that news about hair color "scratch42"....I color my hair and use alot of gels etc so hopefully they won't like me!!!!!

Thanks again everyone...I will surely keep you updated.....we redo the stuff on day 10 (next Saturday!)

I'd be careful using all the chemicals on your dd as well. Another thing to use (and it was the only thing to get rid of lice in our town once because the lice didn't mind the chemicals) was tea tree oil. Actually if you put it in the lavender, geranium mix it makes it even more potent. You can get a tea tree oil shampoo that you can use after with no problems. Whenever there was lice going around I would use a little and fortunately my kids never got lice.
