I know Shades of Green isn't technically a Disney resort, but my family qualifies to stay there. We are booked already at Coronado Springs, but a room at SOG just became available. Only one night pre-cruise, no parks (so need to consider transportation, etc.). I'm leaning towards SOG so we can eat at Poly and watch fireworks. Thoughts either way? Thanks!

I do not have any experience with SOG. But, if you are not visiting the parks and you want to have easy access to the Polynesian food options and you want to watch fireworks from the beach @ Poly, then SOG would be your best option.

Side note: We stayed CL at Grand Destino Tower last week and the lounge has an AMAZING view of Tower of Terror, Swan/Dolphin, Star Wars Land, Spaceship Earth etc. They dimmed the lights in the lounge and you can see light shows and fireworks from the lounge. The breakfast offerings were very good and the other offering were okay. Our room had a view of the Castle @ MK (zooming in on my phone).

Again though, if you want easy access to Polynesian resort, SOG is much closer. But, anything is a short Lyft/Uber ride away.

I have stayed at CSR, but not Shades of Green. But if I had your choice, I would opt fro SOG. It is so close to the Poly and supposedly is a beautiful resort. I do really like CSR, but I would expect SOG to be better, from what I have heard.

Tough call. I've stayed at both. If you are looking to catch the MK fireworks, go with Shades. However, Coronado is such a beautiful and relaxing resort. If you are wanting pool time, I'd go with Coronado for sure.

I've stayed at both, multiple times.

It's really a toss up.

I normally would prefer a Disney Resort, but SOG is really nice with the largest rooms on property.

If you are choosing strictly for going to the Poly, SOG is probably your best choice.

If you want a resort with more bars lounges, inviting outside areas, choose CSR.

For what you describe I'd probably choose CSR and to go to Poly take the bus to MK and Monorail or boat to Poly.

I've stayed at both. You can't beat SoG location, walkable to the Poly. The rooms are bigger, too, though it might not matter for 1 night. Coronado Springs is more "themed," but for a non-park stay, I'd pick Shades of Green for the easy access to the Poly. Plus, not sure the ages in your party, but my kids absolutely love the Shades of Green playground.

Definitely CSR. Bus service is lacking at SOG. The rooms are bigger but seem outdated.

Here’s another perspective. It’s only one night. If you want to check out another, more expensive place to stay it’s the perfect time. We had reservations for SOG but changed to Fort Wilderness Cabins for the one night stay before our cruise after we got reservations for Hoop-Dee-Doo Review. I’ve always wanted to check out that resort but it’s so difficult to get to that we never do. After our cruise we’re staying at SOG because it really is the best deal financially and I love their larger rooms. If you do decide on Coronado Springs call and see if they have a military discount rate.

I would choose SOG. It will be fun to walk over to Poly. And the rooms are much bigger than CS.

I stayed at SOG March last year. The rooms were HUGE, room service was top notch (my kid had an accident in bed at 3am and by some miracle I found a room service attendant in the hall who helped me, miracle woman). We found the bus service absolutely excellent - frequent and on time. Only thing that I thought was sorely lacking was food. Their dinner area was still closed (idk if that has changed by now). Having the poly and monorail across the street was AMAZING. Pro tip: if you ask the shuttle people out front nicely, they'll shuttle you to the end of the drive (we tipped too) saving you that bit of walk to the poly which was great for my disabled husband.
