I don't know what to do and I'm at my wit's end...:scared1:

Yesterday I plugged in my camera (Kodak Z760 on an Easyshare dock) and the computer froze. Contacted HP four times and they had me do the following...

Uninstall all the USB ports and reboot and reinstall
Redo the Chipset
Flash the Bios
Install Windows again

So today I try again and nadda, still freezes. So I disable one of the usb hubs, the one that says Enhanced and now when I plug in the camera it doesn't freeze but rather comes up as an Unknown device, same with the printer, mp3 player, etc.

I'm lost for what to do next, any ideas I'm desperate as I need to upload videos from my camera.

BTW, I'm using Windows XP on a HP Pavilion ze2000.

Any ideas?

Short of going back to the original software (I've had to do that in the past and it is a pain), my only suggestion would be to call Geek Squad or someone similar in your area. If you do restore to the original software, you will need to reinstall everything you use.

I did reboot the system with the reinstall disk but it didn't seem to fix the issue. I'm ready to pull my hair out...lol. I had this issue once before and it fixed itself one day, don't know why or how though.

Try this

First step, Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Create a restore point and name it something like "Before USB Fix". This is to bail you out if something goes wrong during the following process and makes things worse.

Create a file with NOTEPAD containing the following lines and save it as FIX.REG

-------------------------- Use text after this line --------------------------------
REGEDIT4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

-------------------------- Use text before this line --------------------------------

Double click on FIX.REG and say yes to the Merge Into Registry question.

Unplug ALL USB devices.
Open Device Manager.
View, Show Hidden Devices.
Uninstall all devices under USB Controllers.
Uninstall all devices under Disk Drives that you know are not present.
Uninstall all devices under Storage Volumes. Say no to any reboot prompts until you are finished. Also, if a Storage Volume doesn't uninstall, ignore it and move to the next one.
If you have a yellow ? with unknown devices, uninstall all of the entries there as well.

When this is done, reboot TWICE.

Reconnect the USB devices and see if they're recognized properly.

NOTE: If you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse, you'll have to modify the instructions and leave enough parts for those to function. I don't have one yet, so I haven't had time to modify the instructions.
