Just got a Sony flat panel monitor for christmas....

How the heck to you clean it??? I know you are not suppose to use cleaners (or any liquids I think) and I know you aren't suppose to touch it.....but I have alot of "little people" finger prints and smudges.....and I am a smoker and would assume some residue is on the screen.

There was nothing in the manual and I even searched online...they all said a dry soft cloth....but it isn't helping with the smudges!!!!

Thanks
Lisa

Cleaning Flat Panel Monitors

Follow the guidelines below for cleaning flat panel monitors:

Unplug monitor from the wall outlet before cleaning.
Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners.
Use a damp cloth for cleaning (paper towel is not recommended). If the screen requires additional cleaning, use an antistatic screen cleaner.

CAUTION: Do not use benzene, thinner, ammonia, or any other volatile substances to clean your monitor or the screen. These chemicals may damage the cabinet finish as well as the screen.

Flat Panel Display Care
Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs), often referred to as "flat panel" displays, use an electric charge to excite liquid crystal cells suspended between layers of plastic. These flat panel displays are unlike conventional Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays, which are made of glass. Because the flat panel displays are made of plastic, and not glass, special care must be taken when cleaning and handling them.

Cleaning
When cleaning a flat panel display:
• Unplug the power supply.
• Use a lightly dampened, clean, soft cloth for normal cleaning.
• If the damp cloth does not work, use a 50/50 water and vinegar or isopropyl alcohol solution.
• Wipe the screen gently from left to right, starting at the top.
• Wipe off water and any other stains immediately.

Do not:
• Press hard.
• Use paper towels.
• Spray or pour liquids directly on the screen.
• Use screen wipes, unless the package clearly states they may be used with LCD screens.

Handling
When handling (using, lifting, moving, etc.) a flat panel display:
• Use care.
• Hold the plastic case only.

Do not:
• Touch or tap the screen.
• Grip or touch the front of the display.
• Use adhesive (PostIt) notes on the screen.

WOW....Thanks!!! Now, how come I couldn't find that???

I will give it a try.....Doesn't really seem worth it does it?????

I buy ScreenKleen for the 20 or so we have at work. They come in little packets like the hand wipes. The active ingredient is Isopropyl Alcohol. I can't tell you how may screens we have damaged because people use windex and paper towels.
