I have tried to locate the answer to my question but can't so I thought someone could help me.

I have Southwest points in my rapid rewards account and want to know if I can use those points to book our rental van for when we go to Florida.

I have priced a van through Budget through Southwest's site and it is the best price I have found, but if I could use my points, that would be even better.

Does anyone know if this is possible? I have searched without success.

  1. Log into your RR account.
  2. Click the How to Redeem tab.
  3. Click the Redeem for More Rewards button.
  4. Click Explore Rewards.
  5. Hover over the Other Travel tab and choose Rental Cars in the drop down menu.
  6. Enter your dates, car type and pick up location and search. You'll see your options and required points on the next page.

Thanks so much for the directions. I went in and checked, wow, they require alot of points. It'll be "cheaper" to just rent it through the website using the discount code I have.

You can also look under the gift cards section instead of rental cars. There are GCs for Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Hertz. You might be able to use your points for one of those and then partially pay for your rental with it. It could help to reduce your cost.

Thanks for the gc suggestion. I never thought of that. Being new to this rewards program, I still am learning all the benefits. I appreciate your help.

What discount code do you have? Best Budget Car Code I have is "x474200".

Maybe yours is better.

I asked about using RR gift cards on another thread and was reminded that some people rely on a credit card for the insurance that might be missing from basic rental coverage. Your personal auto insurance may suffice but I like the double whammy of personal auto and cc insurance coverage. So I used my RR points to buy Walmart gift cards for groceries and used the cash I would have used for groceries to pay off my cc I used to book rental. Just something to look into.:goodvibes

Ah, that's another great idea. I did use my cc to book the rental so I will have the extra insurance. My dh has some reward points that I will probably use to get gc for restaurants for the trip and will bank my points until spring to get as many as I can to get the gc for the car rental.

I love these boards. I've learned so much.:goodvibes
