I can't seem to get a straight answer from Disney! :confused3

I have an RBC client card with cross border debit via the NYCE. Can I use it in Disney or link it to my Key to the World card?

Much thanks!

I haven't tried, and I don't know anyone who has. I've heard its hit or miss, and am not willing to take the chance. We use cash, traveller's cheques and credit cards. I think my parents us atms a lot when in FL (they are there for 2 months) with their debit card, but not at actual stores or Disney.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Hopefully someone out there knows for sure.

The general concensus is yes and no (check out a few of the threads in this forum on the topic). It may be worthwhile to talk to your bank.

Sorry to tell you but you can't use your debit card in the park. I tried to use my RBC debit card at the gift shop at the entrance to the Magic Kingdom and was told ( after several swipes ) that they don't take debit.

I am curious to find out how you access american funds from your canadian card I was told that I couldn't access my american account using my RBC debit card.

Have a great trip!!!

that's interesting because when we were there in 06 we used ours for the 2 weeks we were there - it's not RBC but a credit union - not sure if that makes a difference.

I may be wrong though since i'm just now remembering that we couldn't use our debit card in Buffalo when we when to Sam's in the summer.

i do know that we didn't have a problem using it at the ATM's because we took out cash every few days to pay for little things.

I've always used my debit card at atm's with no problems. I will tend to take out $300-500 at a time to save on all the extra fees.
I don't think you can access funds from your US account at a Canadian bank unless you have a seperate debit card for it.

I also call my credit card companies before I leave so they don't put hold's/decline transactions like they did a couple of years ago when I was at WDW. I was very upset when I was told by a CM in front of a line up in a main street store that my credit card was declined. Well it wasn't declined, mastercard said the message was for the merchant to call and confirm that the customer was me.

We have used it at the bank machine to withdraw money but if I recall most stores don't have interac machines. I don't think interac machines are common in the USA like they are in Canada.

This is why I said, "The general concensus is yes and no." :) If your bank can't give you an answer, it's possible that you'll be able to, but don't count on it; have a backup plan.

Disney doesn't accept debit as a payment option. Period.

If you want to use debit with them, your debit bank card must have a Visa or Mastercard logo, as many banks do in the US.

You can use your card at ATM machines to withdraw cash but there are some significant service charges involved

My attempt to withdraw money from an ATM at the BoardWalk Villas failed, so don't depend on it working.

We deal with the Royal Bank and we had no problem using the ATM machines but was looked at funny when we asked if they had debt. As Canadian Guy said their idea of debt is attached to a Visa or MC.

Chris.

As Canadianguy said - no, you won't be able to use your RBC debit card anywhere on Disney property. You will however be able to use it at places like Wal-Mart and will work at a lot of ATMs. Just FYI - there is an RBC on John Young Parkway if you have your own car.

and that was at the Harley Davidson store in Downtown Disney. I was able to use the ATM at Pop Century.
You can't use it on purchases in the stores, like you can here in Canada. Visa and Mastercard must love people who visit WDW...I know they loved me..lol!

On my last trip in October I used my debit card at an ATM to withdraw money, it was a CIBC card. There was NO extra fee charged to me at all, just the ATM fee (which was the same as here in Canada), and of course whatever the exchange was.

I am a key account holder, which means my service fees on my account are a set sum every month and includes my cheque orders etc.. Not sure if that made a difference or not. All in all I was quite happy that I wasn't charged anything extra.

Thanks everyone!

I've pretty much decided to split my budget between cash (for incidentals) and TC's (link to the KTTW Card), with my debit card as an emergency backup for ATMs.
