I have an ADR for dinner at Boma...a place I am curious about and think it would be neat to try. DH on the other hand has decided he does not want "Africian" food...his cousin's wife went on and on how awful it was. So I am thinking of giving up this ADR unless someone can convince me otherwise...

In Boma's place I am thinking of the Flying Fish (dh cousins raved about this place, but I am not sure about the menu...I just don't see a lot for the kids)...or what about Cape May Clam Bake...we love seafood, but worried about the quality!

We have eaten at Boma and Cape May. I have not eaten at Flying Fish, but it seems to get reviews, I want to try it sometime for sure!

I loved Boma!! It was so different from everything else. My DH did not care for it. I knew he would not like it though. He is a very plain eater.

Cape May was just ok. Nothing out of the ordinary. I would like to try their breakfast, but I don't see us going back for dinner.

With that being said, I would go between Boma and Flying Fish.

his cousin's wife went on and on how awful it was.

How awful Boma is or how awful African food is?

Boma doesn't have exclusively African offerings and the ones they do have are more "African-inspired."

If you want a large selection of plain, American style food it is better to go somewhere else. They have American-style food, just not tons of it.

And because the cousin's wife doesn't like Boma or African food it doesn't mean anyone else won't like it. A lot of posters do like it, so it isn't like it's just a uniformly bad buffet.

How bout a comprimise and try Jiko?

Not sure how that would be a compromise, since Jiko is more African themed than Boma.

OP, if you can convince DH that a buffet at a big resort that caters to huge numbers of guests is not going to have any "over the top strange" foods, I'd encourage you to keep the ADR you have. Boma is fun to try. There will be a wide variety of meats, soups, salads, side dishes, and desserts. But if it is going to be a deal-breaker I'd opt for Cape May. We found the quality of the dinner buffet to be good. They always have all-you-can-eat crab legs on the buffet; the item that rotates is the choice between fried shrimp, fried calamari, and a white fish fillet. We liked the calamari, which had a very light batter.

DH & I liked Boma for breakfast, but only because we were on DDP. Would not pay for it because $ vs value is not there, in our opinions.

Boma for dinner - we thought it was not good at all. The 2 carved meats were dry & tough. The other choices were not of high quality, in our opinions. Glad we didn't pay cash for it - on "free" DDP.

Jiko - before our Boma dinner, we took the Jiko intro tour. We were turned over to a chef & seated at the bar & given 4 (maybe more) types of samples. We didn't like the taste of any of them! Of course, we didn't indicate that to the chef - we umm'ed & awww'd respectfully.

Cape May - we LOVE crablegs. We had 20 days of DDP, so we went to CM several times. However, we didn't think the quality of the rest of the food was that great - there were a few exceptions, of course. The clam chowder was good. Once there was a shrimp casserole type dish that was good, but it wasn't refilled well, & with the lines we didn't get any more (1st time we only took a taste, so as not to waste if we didn't like it). The crablegs were usually refilled ok, except on one very buy weekend nite (we usually avoid weekends due to using some of our credits on signature spots). The baked & grilled fish dishes were dry.

Yachtsman's Steakhouse - we loved their Porterhouse steak (went 3 times). The rub was perfect, always cooked to order, service very good, friendly.

Whispering Canyon Cafe - I really liked it (the all you can eat skillet & shake), DH didn't. But I think he didn't like it mostly because of the noise & that ruined his dinner. We realized what we were getting into, but wanted to give it a try anyway.

FF is our favorite restaurant on property. kids and adults have consistently be happy there.

But Boma as being too exotic/African....??? yes they have some non "traditional" foods, but they aren't foreign, at least to us. Will your family only eat steak and mac/cheese? then maybe it's an issue.

if you think they *may* enjoy it, take a chance. I 've gone to places that I love and walked away unhappy. Take a chance, you may be pleasantly convinced.

Did you look at the kids menu at ff? We had no problem with our kids there.... in fact the manager made a big fuss over them. It was by far the BEST meal that we had of our 10 day dxdp trip. The kids also will LOVE the Mickey puzzle dessert!

Boma was a typical buffet with african flare.... not worth the money in our opinion.

We have been to all three and they are all very different.
I personally like Boma and it is my favorite buffet, but you have to be willing to try different foods. It is not for everyone.
Cape May is OK seafood in my opinion, lots of it, but ok quality.
Flying Fish is the most upscale of the three. We ate there with four adults and everyone loved their dishes. I have not had the steak, but some have written it is the best steak on property.

Are you on a dining plan? Flying Fish is 2 TS credits. I have been to Cape May and it was fabulous. It wasnt all sea food either. As for Boma we have not tried but are booked for our upcoming trip. The Itinierary planner explained that its not all african food, there is a station for it and mostly american food such as pork, beef and chicken. hope this helps!
