DH and I are going in November. I am a vegetarian, DH is not. Soooo, trying to find some 'happy mediums' as far as restaurants go, so that DH & I will both be happy.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

P.S. I do eat dairy and fish.

My boyfriend, my sister, and I have all gone and we are vegetarians. I will share some of our favorites with you!

Magic Kingdom:

Columbia Harbor House: hummus and coleslaw on rye bread was sooo good! The bread was really good, I was quite surprised considering we just stopped in to see what they had!

Breakfast Buffet @ Crystal Palace: They have pleanty of good stuff to eat, they will make you any kind of eggs you want (if you eat eggs), they have good waffles and decent fruit.

MGM Studios:

Prime Time Cafe: They have a vegetarian stuffed pepper which was SO good that I tried to recreate it at home. It came out well, but it's just always better at disney world! :)

Hollywood and vine: They had surprisingly a decent amount of vegetarian stuff, veggie lo-mein and a really good buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad, plus regular salad and the normal kid-stuff like macaroni and cheese.

Epcot:

There are pleanty of good veggie meals in that food court at the land. My favorite is the vegetable lasagna.

Animal Kingdom:

tusker house: they have a decent veggie sandwich, though I've heard some people on here call it bland. Maybe I just got a good cook that day? My sister and I both thought it was good.

rainforest cafe: They have the usual veggie burger, and a good 'plant sandwich'.

DTD:

Planet hollywood: They have the usual veggie burger also, and some pasta dish and a few other vegetarian options that I can't remember now. Not the BEST food but not terrible either.

Rainforest Cafe: see above.

Boardwalk:

Spoodles: they had a really good veggie stuffed pepper also (though much different from 50's), but I think they might have taken that off the menu, which would make me really sad, it was so good!

I hope to try out boma this year because I hear it's really good and have seen some delicious sounding vegetarian options on the menu!

I hope this helps a bit.

tricia.

AKL Boma and Jiko have great choices. I had the Olive Feta Flatbread and Veggies, Peas and Grains at Jiko. Both very good. Check out allearsnet.com menus and this should help a lot. I would visit one of the two I mentioned above. Anyplace will accomodate you, just ask. If you do the buffet at Boma and ask for the Cilantro Chicken Salad to be made without the Chicken, it is wonderful. They have a ton of other things on their menu you'll enjoy too.

Crystal Palace breakfast has to die for Veggie Frittata, Breakfast Lasagna and Cheesy Hash Browns.

Oh and California Grill at the Contemporary has a very appealing dish I am having next week. It's Free-form Pumpkin Lasagna with brown butter vinaigrette, spinach, dried cranberries and pistachios* $20.00

Chef de France has GREAT Mac N Cheese.

I think you'll be surprised at all you can find. I really am not strictly a vegetarian, but I seem to eat mostly all veggies, sometimes fish and chicken.

Let's see... CG is my favorite for vegtarian fare.

Kona Cafe at the Poly has a really good veggie rice bowl.

The Commissary at MGM has a good taboulah/hummus wrap with marianated tomatoes.

The Pecos Bill salad at MK is good and available without chicken (not vegan however, it's got cheese mixed all through it if that's a concern.)

The "natural burger" at Rainforest is a very good meatless burger.

There are a couple veggie entrees at Nine Dragons in Epcot (a veggie stir fry, some kind of wheat gluten mock meat thing that's tasty.) The counter service place has something called vegetable lo mein, but I believe it does have chicken broth in it.

Most table service places have options if you ask.

You can find appropriate stuff around, so have fun exploring.

Thank you all so much for the wonderful suggestions!! DH and I are both
Paramedics and just got back form a call, so you succeeded in making me very hungry!!

Your very northern neighbour. :wave2:

Hi,
Our family including three young ones are also veggie.
We find by asking our server if there are any other options they are usually very helpful.
We also loved Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge great for vegetarians and quite a few options for meat eaters(my Husband loved the African Beer!).
Wolfgang Puck's Express is also reasonable and has really great food and a nice little courtyard in Downtown Disney.

good luck
Kristin

Epcot:
I loved the vegetarian platter at the Tangiere Cafe in Morocco for lunch. Delicious! And there are a lot of meat options there for your husband. We ate in Mexico for dinner - they actually have a vegetarian menu which I learned about here on the Boards. It wasn't offered with the regular menu - I had to ask for it. It's very romantic there, too.

MK:
We ate dinner at the Crystal Palace - very veg friendly buffet and the food was good. I wasn't expecting much for a buffet in the parks.

Boma in AKL was wonder*** as well.

Have a delicious trip!

Oh! You're a veggie like I am! I eat dairy and fish as well, but that's it. (No poultry, beef, pork, etc.)

My recomendations:
-The cedar plank salmon at Artist's Point is incredible.
-One of my lunch favorites is the Cobb Salad at the Brown Derby --you can order it without ham, bacon, and turkey and there is still more than enough 'stuff' on it to make it good!
-Tonga Toast at Kona Cafe can be ordered with a fruit side instead of bacon. Yummmmm!
-Boma has tons of options. They have a coconut milk seafood gumbo that is amazing!
-For a quick bite, the Columbia Harbor House has a hummus and broccoli slaw sandwich on olive bread that is the best fast food option I've had at WDW.
-Alfredo's has very yummy, and very cheesy fetuccini alfredo.
-Tony's Town Square has excellent eggplant pamasean. I highly recommend it.

Those are just a few off of the top of my head. All of those resturants have good options for your carnivirous DH!

Some of my favorites for vegetarian selections so far (although I hope to add more to the list after next month's visit):

Columbia Harbour House: Excellent veggie chili and lighthouse sandwich (hummus and broccoli slaw).

Earl of Sandwich: Caprese sandwich is fantastic!

Liberty Tree Tavern: Amber waves of grain was very good

ESPN Club: Loved the grilled portobello sandwich

Tangerine Cafe: Had the vegetarian platter twice last trip, can't wait to have it again!

Wolfgang Puck Express: Spinach and mushroom pizza - yum!

Hollywood & Vine: A very big selection for vegetarians on the buffet.

This information is GREAT! My DD16 is veggie and I try hard to accommodate her desires when we dine. Sometimes it's very difficult and I find myself wanting to say, "Jiminy Christmas, just eat a flippin cheesburger like the rest of us!!!!" I love how she pretends that corned beef and cabbage wasn't one of her favorite meals at one time... :rotfl:

In any case, thanks for the info!!! I will paste it into doc for her!

I am vegetarian (I eat no flesh) and my husband is a carnivore (a low-carbing one, at that!). I'm not crazy about the counter service food at WDW, but most places do have at least one vegetarian meal.

My Favorites:
Food courts at the Value Resorts--they have plenty of vegetarian food, just look closely at all the cooked AND refrigerated choices. My favorite breakfast at the POP was oatmeal with half a banana cut up on it, brown sugar, and a bit of half-and-half.

Rainforest Cafe--absolutely awesome veggie burger--not your usual Gardenburger or Bocaburger. The best veggie burger I've ever had!

San Angel Inn (the sit-down restaurant in Mexico at Epcot)--they have a separate vegetarian menu that you have to ask for--only had two items on it, but the veggie platter was very tasty.

Mainstreet Bakery at WDW--has a delicious veggie sandwich and amazing deserts--grab some grub and watch Wishes or a parade! Or just sit on a bench or on the curb and people-watch while you eat.

I fyou go during the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot (Autumn), there are several booths that have vegetarian samplers.

Be aware that often some of the children's meals at counter service restaurants are vegetarian (e.g, mac and cheese) and you do not have to be a child to order one.

Oh, I almost forgot about Wolfgang Puck's Express. They have a great squash soup. (It might be seasonal, but I'm not sure.) I thought my Mom was going to lick the bowl!
The first thing she did when we finished was to ask for the recipe!

Ah! I became vegetarian when I was 14. I'm now 48, and have never wavered, despite liking bacon before I became vegetarian! My mother thought I was "going through a phase." pirate:

YUMMMMM!!!!! Can't wait to go back!

Okay, I've been reading this thread and biting my lip. However I can't take it any more and must say this for the sake of any non-vegetarians reading this.

If a meal has fish, it is NOT vegetarian. It is seafood. I've had well meaning, but uninformed people prepare me a meal with fish, thinking I'd eat it. If you have to kill an animal to prepare the meal, then it's NOT vegetarian. This also includes chicken or beef broth used for soups.

Okay, now I feel better. Thanks.

Yeah, I know you mean, Melissa. A chicken is not a vegetable either, but some folks think I'll eat that! But then again, to me, dairy and eggs are not vegetarian. If it's an animal product, it's not vegetarian to me.

Grains are not vegetables, either... but it seems to a staple of vegetarian diets! You have to love diversity!

Boy, I missed a veggie thread on the Disboards!

Seriously, though, you are SO right. I get so frustrated with servers and chefs who steer me towards seafood, and get upset when I ask for vegetarian again. It happened to me again last week - Kona Kafe got upset with me since I wouldn't take them up on Mahi Mahi....

Does anyone else get tired of WDW doing pasta at most of the full service restaurants? Can't they get a little creative? I love the tomato risotto CG sometimes has on the menu. And Yacht Club Galley does a great portobello mushroom sandwich - just ask.

I eat eggs, but can't handle milk, so I don't know how vegans can survive at WDW....

And I would caution veggies - the rice bowl at Kona has a wonton shell which they cook in the same oil as Chicken fingers - ask them not to.

I got violently ill 3x over 3 years at POR, from the 'veggie' taco salad. A chef at POFQ finally told me that they cook the taco shell in the same oil as chicken - DUH it's not veggie, no wonder I got sick!
