Help: Best/Easiest GS access outside of park to aquire DAS?

I was referring to the wait itself. It's always been there. I'd hope they reconsider not giving them outside the parks. I don't think the reports of them refusing to have been consistent enough to be sure they absolutely arent anymore.

I am hoping the same thing-just inconsistencies between parks and CMs! And the reason I was given doesn't seem logical...that the inside location would have no indication that a DAS had been issued outside, thus inviting abuse. With the available technology that just seems far-fetched.

One suggestion for those that stay onsite, if you DON'T like going to the park that has EMH (too crowded), you could always just go to that park at rope drop, get your DAS, and hopefully still make it to rope drop or shortly after at another park. This might be possible during less busy times of the year.

GACs were issued outside of the parks. And it is ironic that the population that has the hardest time waiting in line have yet another line to wait in, and miss out on the opportunity to head straight to the attractions at rope drop. Securing our pass was always a reason to get there early...and the first timers will wait in the outside GS line before being redirected to the inside GS location. I purchased an extra park day for our first travel day this time just to be able to get our DAS that first evening so we will have it in place for our first full day.

But having to wait is not covered under the ADA, so I'm not sure what you expect of Disney? :confused3

Yes waiting at Guest Relations was always part of it but we would get to the park pre-RD and we would go over to GR there to wait for the GAC. We had to stay away from the big crowd lining up at the gates/rope (depending on the park) so waiting at GR where there aren't nearly as many people wasn't a big deal. Now we'll have to wait at the back of the crowd and then once all of those people have managed to get in the park we can now proceed to Guest Services inside the park and wait in another line after having waited outside the park like everybody else. We now have an extra wait that others don't have to deal with.

For those at the IG they used to be able to get a GAC outside the turnstiles. As far as I know there isn't a GR location inside the turnstiles on the IG side so now once the park opens people coming in that way have to schlep all the way to the opposite side of the park and wait in line at GR after having already waited to get into the park and then traveled that far across the park. What's even worse is that they'll be like salmon swimming upstream trying to get to GR. Unless I'm wrong and there is a GR location just inside the IG but I thought I had read several reports that they're not giving out DAS at IG.

We got our DAS outside MK the day before Thanksgiving, but we had to beg CMs to do that. We explained that we only came there to get DAS (we took a quick boat ride from Poly after breakfast at O'Hana). I also told CM that we had an early breakfast at CRT on our first full day after Thanksgiving and did not want to backtrack to GS instead of staying at Fantasyland at park opening after our breakfast. They finally agreed to let us in line to GS outside the park; we were told to see one specific CM at the window who was then able to take the picture and issue DAS. So they were still able to do it at that time, we just had to be polite and persistent.

It's now an additional line on top of every other line...the next poster explained it very well. Like many typical families we use different strategies to enhance our experience. It was always our choice to arrive early to secure our DAS so we could enjoy the same rope drop experience as everyone else. During our last visit in a November I was just sharing that after waiting fa significant time at an outside GS for the DAS they wanted us to wait again inside the park for the same customer service that had been previously provided outside the park. Once it is consistently implemented (if in fact that is what is going to be the standard) then one line would cancel out the other, but you would still miss out on rope drop and that exciting first walk down Main Street!

We got ours the same morning at the same park! In the midst of the CM explaining the change my DS with autism made it clear we were an eligible family and I think she took pity on us! Lol! I totally agree with your comment about being polite...we were effusive with our thanks and appreciation. It made such a huge difference to be able to walk right in and begin enjoying the magic!

Oh, you mean having to wait twice in line to get a DAS - I misunderstood on that point. I thought you meant that one shouldn't have to wait in line at all. No, they should let everyone know that the DAS can only be given inside, then no one would waste time outside the park in a queue to find out that they need to get one inside.

You can still arrive early enough to be there for rope drop, wait for that to happen (only happens at MK, right?) and walk down Main Street. You can even go to the first attraction of the day, then go back and get the DAS. Perhaps by then the line for the DAS would be shorter?

Yes that is definitely an option, though it seems that children on the spectrum are genetically pre-disposed to dislike back tracking! Lol! The plan for this summer is to hit our first park on our first travel day...not financially sound for a few evening hours at a park, but if we line up a few FPPs and get our DAS then it will be worth it.

I think the Magic Band is causing longer lines. We visited guest services 3 times because of Magic Band issues (to get our tix added to the band, to get a replacement band when our son lost it, and to fix the accidental deactivation of our other son's magic band).

It would be nicer if Disney allowed guests to get the DAS outside the parks. That way it could be done ahead of time.
