The collective brain powers of the UK Dissers is needed again please! :grouphug:

Declan will be 1 in a couple of weeks (can hardly believe it myself!) and my Mother keeps asking what she should buy him. Much as I want to say open a bank a/c for him I know that it needs to be a physical 'something'. I have no ideas at all (he doesn't need anything) so any suggestions would be appreciated.

We are getting him a big Fisher Price Dinosaur which you roll balls down and a Baby Einstein DVD. He is getting a Lightening McQueen Ride-On for Christmas.

I also know that my Father will be ringing with the same question in about 3 weeks time (yep probably after the big day!)

Thanks Guys

Jo it is hard isn't it with Christmas so close. We are having to think for Joseph now too. I will let you know of any thing I can think of...

As a 1yr old wouldn't know anything about presents, a bank account would be a great idea. If it has to be something physical, I'd go for a book of short bedtime stories. It's a nice, stress-busting way for you and your children to finish the day.

I gave my niece when she was one a fisher price dolls house, they have similar things more geared to boys. I picked one for aged 1 and above. I also gave money for her savings. Other people bought a swing, a play table with all different kinds of things attached which make noises or slide about. At one year old they don't really know what is going on so either buy something that has a larger age range if it is a more expensive item or buy a smaller one and give cash or clothes.

How about Granny takes him shopping with his big sister and they pick a present together and you have an afternoon off ? :thumbsup2

Our DD got a vtech rocket ship shape shorter when she was 1 and loved it and it lasted for a long time as it does shape, colour and other recognition games.

Thanks Guys - some really great ideas there - enough for a list :thumbsup2

Definitely one of those Aquadraw sets. Probably the Thomas the Tank Engine one if its a boy.

Fantastic for the bairns they are.

Totally agree. The more the parents read with their children the more likely they are to enjoy reading themselves :goodvibes

Jo my ds had his first birthday a few weeks ago, some of his favourite gifts were - funky footsteps, big red fire engine and vtech walker - both came from the early learning centre, musical books, wooden blocks and a ride on bike with parent handle!

Hope this helps although I agree with the others that the bank account would be the ideal present! :teeth:

of course you could alway buy some wonderful children's books

Animal hide & seek is a best seller

If not I'd definitely go with the aquadraw - mine spent hours on this and its so easy and mess free.

Also they love the ferris wheel - I think it's by fisher price. This is the only "baby" toy i've not been able to get rid off and they're 4 & 3!

Good luck and the 1st birthday celebrations.

Janet

I'd get some clothes/a cuddly toy; at his age he's not likely to get mad at recieving them.. ;)

Joshuas birthday was last friday and some of the presents he got were a smart trike, Lightening McQueen ride on, big crate of Megablocks from ELC and the 100 Acre wood set by Megablocks, Usbourne touch and feel books, Turbo Tail Tigger, Little People Train set, Big push a long Lightening McQueen and other little bits and bobs.

I can honestly say he has been playing with them all!

Hope this gives you some ideas.

Karina

Of all the toys that my DD has been bought over the years she still plays with Fisher Price Little People and Mega Blocks. We have had hours and hours of fun with these and they seem to last and last.

What about the disney musical train. My daughters loved this (&still do)

The train goes around a track and depending on which charactor is driving it plays different tunes. I know Argos used to sell it - but not sure now?
