Help!!! Anniversary meal not at the parks and keeping it simple?

Hi everyone,

When we go in september we arrive in the afternoon (by the time we check in etc in should be around 5:00pm ish).

The day we arrive it is our anniversary (2 years since we married at WDW).

Now we would like to book a meal for that night but we dont want to go to a park as we like to go to MK as our first park and experience the opening on our first full day.

So our options are DD or a resort.

Now another problem is that me and the DH are very fussy eaters! (On our wedding day we had Pizza!!!)

So does anyone know of anywhere we could eat ojn our first night that serves simple food but also possibly has characters?

We thought about Chef Mickeys but we aren't sure if they serve 'simple' food.

By simple food this is what we basically eat whilst in WDW:

Pizza, burgers, fries, hot dogs, mash...not much else

I eat more than my DH but it's pointless going anywhere in which he can't eat anything.

Any suggestions???

I didn't think the food at Chef Mickey's was all that great this time around and the characters were all very rushed. For a character meal I would recommend 1900 Park Fare much more fun and relaxed interaction with the characters and the food was good however I can't remember if it was as simple as you outlined unless you ate off the children's choices.

Have you had a look at Woolfgang Puck in DTD, we've only eaten at the express and not being a particularly big fan of Pizza I can honestly say I had the best pizza there ever! I don't know what the menu is like in the restaurant but if the food is anything like the express then it is very good.

Then there is, of course, always The Rainforest Cafe and Planet Hollywood at DTD, other than I can't think of anywhere else.

Have you had a look at Woolfgang Puck in DTD, we've only eaten at the express and not being a particularly big fan of Pizza I can honestly say I had the best pizza there ever! I don't know what the menu is like in the restaurant but if the food is anything like the express then it is very good.

I would second - we ate at the restaurant there after arriving in Orlando last October... Pizzas are the "stone baked" type - I enjoyed one with a salad.

I find that when I arrive in Orlando I am tired, need a shower, change of clothes, a simple meal (since tastebuds are probably recovering from the altitude and the time difference...), maybe a walk around and then bed. Wolfgang Puck at Downtown Disney fitted that perfectly (although did the shower and change of clothes bit at the villa beforehand... ).

I could be wrong, but don't think it is particularly worth going for a character meal or anything very complicated when you are tired and maybe half asleep at the table. WOuld go for something simple the night you arrive and then celebrate your "anniversary proper" with something more extravagent the following day

I would suggest Cape May Clam Bake at the Beach Club. Something for everyone.

I was going to suggest Wolfgang Puck's - pizza is his speciality and what made him famous. It does get busy though and there can be long waits for dinner. Rainforest Cafe serves both pizza and burgers. Sticking with Downtown Disney, what about Raglan Road? Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and fish and chips are amongst the offerings.

I'm not a fan of the Grand Floridian Cafe, but its menu might suit you and the surroundings are more fitting for a special occasion than somewhere like Beaches and Cream. For a burger in simple surroundings, we prefer Crew's Cup Lounge at the Yacht Club (the bar adjoining Yachtsman's Steakhouse) - it's got the "grown-up" feeling that B&C lacks.

This is a bit of a different idea, but may be worth considering. How about booking a fireworks or illuminations cruise, and then ordering whatever food you want to be delivered to the boat You could have champange (or sparkining wine) and hotdogs or beer and pizza, they can do most things
