Hello,

I have been attempting to reserve a car for our trip in Dec. 22-28th. Right now the cost of the car is $500 plus. and that is for the economy one.

Do you think the prices will go down? I have rented before and the prices were never this high

Rates are driven by the available supply of vehicles and the demand for them. Have you checked Mousesavers.com for discount codes?

Hello,

I needed a rental for 3 weeks starting Dec. 21. The quote was around $1,500.00. I decided to see what would be latest day before the 21st that I could pick up for 3 weeks and get a decent price. The magic date was Dec. 17. I reserved 3 weeks for about $550.00 total. I decided to adjust my vacation dates a little just to get an affordable rental car price.

In years past they have actually run out of cars for the week OP wants. That kind of demand does not make the car companies want to offer a deal. Most of the codes actually stop on 12/18 or so.

I would book a car and cancel if you get a better deal, but not booking while waiting on the "deal" could result in NO car or an even higher price!

Thank so much. I have a ressie for two days but wanted to check to see how much it would be if I kept the car the whole week.

If the prices do not go down then I will just return the car and go with a car service. :(

If I hear anything good I will let you know.

We leave on the 24th of this month. I have been checking the prices daily and they have sure skyrocketed. I started out with a mid size SUV for 9days for 145.00. Due to travel plan changes I have ended up with a mid size for the
9 Days for 167.72. Just keep checking daily and check different car companies. I usually choose Alamo or National because they are right at the airport. It's pretty crazy buit also check all the coupon codes as the prices vary greatly. Good luck!

Hi S'sMom I too am looking for similar dates as you. We haven't had to:santa: pay these crazy prices in the past and we are waiting it out to see if they come down. I will let you know if I find anything. Good Luck!

I agree Mackey, I have taken several trips during Christmas and this is the first year for these prices. Maybe it is a supply and demand thing like one of the other posters said. But my goodness, is it that bad :rotfl2: Hopefully we will see some prices go down. My guess is the closer it gets we will get to use that IG code about 2 weeks befor (at least i think that is it>

Good luck to you too :thumbsup2

We also prefer Alamo and their easy kiosk check in, but haven't found anything reasonable for our dates, Dec.29-Jan5. I ended up reserving a midsize at Dollar for $257 using oi1054 (Orlando Magic Card) in the corporate box. For the OP's dates, it's giving me $252. I will also be checking for last minute deals on Alamo, though!

Wow, that is 10X's better. I tried using the code and it wont work. Unless I am doing something wrong. WHich could be the case :) Did you put the above code in the Corp ID sec right? I can reserve that price then go back and redo if the prices drop. Thanks again

Yup, I just tried it again - the corporate ID box, not the promo code. I also went to the Orlando Magicard website and printed a card just in case they ask for it.

I have been trying something for December 24 to January 4th and it is SKY HIGH, anyone have any ideas.

:santa:

I used corp 860292-AP rate. If you go to the kiosk, you won't have to show anything.
Coupon code:AD2051MMD-a $40 coupon that was supposed to have expired in June but is still good. It;s an e coupon, so you don't have to show anything.

I reserved a standard SUV/week for $165.00. Pick up at MCO and drop off at the Dolphin. This is a really good rate because the price usually skyrockets if you drop off at WDW.
We're moving to Universal on the drop off day and don't need a car because everything is walking distance.

Coupon Code AD2051MMD expires before our December time frame..........I just tried it and "No Luck". Quote was over $600.00-Crazy!!

MCO for years had some of the lowest rental car prices in America (and thus in the world) With supply being reduced, rates are increasing.

$500/week is not uncommon in other American cities. I rent a car almost every week.

Travellers to MCO have already seen higher rental car rates, albeit still some of the lowest in America; it only makes sense that during the busiest two weeks of the year prices will be even higher.

PP is correct, the crazy Alamo prices are/were the dirt cheap rates many of us have been able to book in the past.

Car mfg used to give cars to the rental agencies for next to nothing; sometimes a cheap lease and sometimes a guaranteed buy back. These programs gave the rental agencies new cars without being subject to resale risks and insulated them from the impact of the decpreciating value of cars.

Those days are gone. Buying a new car but then selling it with 20-30K miles costs $$$. Rental agencies may be keeping cars longer but customers aren't happy if they get a car with even 20,000 miles on it. Some agencies are starting to realize if they don't get a minimum rental price per mile/per day they're better off just letting car sit on the lot.

Agencies need to make more $$ during peak times.

One expert on FT estimates rental agencies have to average $35/day just to cover car payments. Selling money making damage waivers, fuel plans and GPS rentals are probably the only way rental agencies can make money.

Looking into using the Public transpo, ME, and maybe even a towncar for the trip to PC for the cruise or the Disney Bus. But i was told today that we will need to get a cab and make our way over to the AK, which that is going to cost even more.

Does anyone know the average cost of a cab from the All Star Music to the AK?

Just keep searching I guess :surfweb:
