We are diehard CBR fans but the kids have always wanted to go to AKL. This year we booked a nice waterview at CBR but just noticed for another $200 we could have a Standard room at AKL ( something we have never ever been able to afford before in all of the 20 years). Im kinda stressed at cancelling my beloved CBR but should I do AKL just this once for the kids? Its only going to be a Standard room as its all our budget will stretch to..do you think a Standard room is worth it? Will the kids still get to see animals...will it be ok with a Parking lot view? How busy is AKL? will it be nuts with kids ? One thing we love about CBR is the quiet and relaxing atmosphere..well I do! lol I would love all your input on the matter..thanks in advance. ( OT its going to be my 50th birthday celebration when we are there..YIKES! )

Not just for the kids, but for you too! As you know, I'm a die hard CBR fan too but AKL is an amazing resort and should be experienced.

Definitely.

Yes and Yes.

Busy is not a word I would use to describe AKL. No, not nuts with kids at all.

AKL is very serene and relaxing.

Thanks so much Dansdad...you know how hard it is to break away from CBR!! We are still thinking about it.... hubby and I love CBR but every year the kids do the big sigh...wishing it was AKL they were at. ( ungrateful brats..lol ) Hubby and I are huge African food fans so that may be the lure we need...we shall see..its still up for discussion but thank you for answering my questions...as usual..you rock! :)

I agree 100% with dansdad. We've stayed at both and while we loved everything about CBR, AKL is amazing! I can't comment on standard view as we've stayed pool and savanna view, but I think a standard view would be fine. Some won't stay at AKL with anything but a savanna view, but there are plenty of animal viewing areas around the resort that for us, a savanna view isn't a necessity. AKL is a great resort with a nice/quiet atmosphere, great pool, and great dining options. Good luck :).

Note that at AKL, a Standard View isn't a parking lot view. Most of the Standard Views at Jambo House overlook the pool, landscaping or certain things that don't qualify as a Savannah view, like the people pens, or close-in fencing. Very few of the Standard Views at Jambo House overlook "parking."

I love AKL and wouldn't hesitate picking it over CBR or any moderate. It is an amazing resort with great amenities and food! Plenty of areas to view animals throughout the resort. What a great place to celebrate your birthday!

At CBR we were at Jamaica so had the nice walk through the island to OPR. I will say that I really enjoyed the quiet peaceful walks outside in the early AM so I might give that advantage to CBR. However the first time you return to the resort when it is raining and you don't have to race to your room to avoid getting drenched makes up for this :)

AKL is one of our family's favorites. I think not having a savannah view is one of those "ignorance is bliss" things. Once you've had it I can see missing it, but if you don't know what you're missing I wouldn't worry about it. There are plenty of areas to see the animals and activities to learn about them. For $200 more and a big birthday trip I would absolutely pick AKL. We loved the pools and restaurants there, and it's probably one of the most relaxing resorts on property IMO.
