I am beginning to put together a possible trip for my family, and some extended family for late October 2007. I have heard a lot of positive comments on DVC and am considering renting points for a DVC resort. The problem is, I dont know much about DVC and renting. I attempted to post a question on the renting board, but it wasnt until after i submitted my thread that I realized there were title regulations for threads, so mine wont be showing up there anytime soon...I should pay more attention!:rolleyes1

Anyway, I really need basic info -

How does renting work?

Is where a place where i can compare point values and how many points are required per night per resort?

If you stay at a DVC resort can you still use Disney transportation? Are there transportation stops at the DVC resorts?

Would we still be able to take advantage of the parks EMH? How about the Express to and from the airport?

My apologizes if all this is repeatative, but I do and will appreciate any and all advice.

Thank you!

DVC resorts are no different than other WDW resorts for EMH, transportation and ME.

If you are looking at Oct 07, you really need to be talking to a member very soon to get something. Some of the resorts are already booked because of the Food & Wine Festival.

Read the FAQs on the Rent/Trade Board. You are making an agreement with a member and Disney will not get involved in any way should things go south. At the top of the page is a link to the points charts. Do not think about saving money by requesting a BW Standard view. Those go first along with the BW view villas at BWV.

You'll be spending anywhere from $10 - 15 a point for the reservation and you might not be able to change or cancel the reservation once it has been made.

I have never rented either but I am positive that once the dvc member makes the reservation in your name you will be treated just like any other resort guest. You will be able to use the disney transportation, you will be entitled to the emh and you are also able to book the disney dining plan. You can find point charts just by clicking on the link at the top of this board I think. Hope this helps.

Renting is a private agreement between you and a DVC owner, just like renting a vacation home from a private owner. Disney will not become involved, even if something should go sour. Be sure to have verifiable contact info for your DVC member, and it is also a good idea to have a written contract spelling out your rights and obligations.

Follow the link at the top pf he page to DVC Point Charts :)

Yes, DVCers receive all the rights and privileges of any other onsite WDW guest, including resort charge, package delivery, transportation, magical express and EMH.

Good luck with your rental. :)

Thanks so much for the information, I was thinking for the end of October. I guess I need to hurry and make some decisions. I was afraid that I might of been overlooking some of this basic info, like the point chart. Figures it would be right at the top of the page. Just my luck...:rotfl:

Thanks again!

I would be careful renting DVC points involving extended family. DVC point reservations have strict cancellation rules for the DVC member and are definitely not as easy to change or cancel as a cash reservation through central reservations direct through Disney would be. You may be setting yourself up for a major headache if you're dealing with multiple families trying to coordinate a trip through points. I'd probably just have the various family members rent a value or moderate through Disney and forget point renting. Another thing, hurricanes are a possibility in October.

I'd save my first time for renting points for a time when it's just your immediate family and not extended family.

Good luck.

One final comment. By staying at a DVC resort you are entitled to all WDW resort benefits as others have explained.

However, as a renter, you are NOT entitled to DVC member benefits. These include things such as a discount on the purchase of an Annual Pass, discounts at a number of restaurants, some merchandise discounts, pool hopping privileges, free valet parking at DVC resorts, etc.

For these 'perks', you would need to show an actual blue DVC membership card, which of course as a renter, you would not have.

DVC has recently added the DDP and this is being extended to renters, if you wish to purchase it. The person you rent from would need to put it in as part of your reservation. You would pay Disney for it directly when you check in. You would not pay the person you are renting from for this.
