Help, advice needed about renting

Hi,

I would like to know
1, how does payment transfer between people,
2, what does member service think and how do they deal with renting points

Any help is appreciated

Most people who rent points out would take PayPal. You can go to the rent/trade board to see the listings there. For those DVC owners who don't specify payment method, you can always ask them.

Member Services doesn't deal with renting points. In fact, they don't ask. When the DVC owner calls to make a reservation, Member Services only asks if the reservation is for the owner or for a guest. If for a guest, then all guest info (name, address, phone) must be submitted at the time of making the reservation.

How to sort out rental details will be strictly between the renter and the DVC owner. Many DVC owners provide a contract/agreement for renters to sign.

Payment is normally up to the person who owns the points although they may work with whomever is renting. Paypal is used by some but after a few rentees have been burned by it many want something that they can be more sure of.

Member services only deals with the point owner- so it needs to be someone you can trust- they will not talk with anyone else even if the reservation is in their name.

side note but technically, i believe DVC owners are supposed to distinguish between paid rentals and free guests but i've never heard of this being done in practice.

part of this is MS's fault as there have been stories of poorly trained MS operators believing that paid rentals are illegal when they are specifically allowed in the POS. (to be fair, it can be hard to get the fine lines between "no commercial renting" and "no compensation for transfers" vs. "allowable renting.")

I've been uncomfortable with PayPal due to a family being burned by it (totally non-DVC related) and choose to have my renter pay me by cashier's check. Once I receive payment, I send the confirmation on to the renter.

I've only done this twice - and, by chance, found a nice family to rent to here on the DIS. They rented from me last year & contacted me this year to ask if I would be a reference for them....turned out I had points & was able to rent to them again.

I've only done this twice (we generally use all of our points), but MS has never asked me if this was a renter - I just give the names of the guests staying in the unit.
