Hell's Kitchen: The Contestants are GRRRROSSSS

What gets me is the lack of intelligence of some of these people. I realize that Ramsey makes it stressful for them, but some of them have made some really bonehead moves. Haven't they watched the past seasons? You don't start pre-cooking 40 scallops before an order even comes in. Chef is very protective of his scallops. And you absolutely don't send up raw or overcooked meat. Just admit that it's not right and do it again. If you send it up and try to pass it off as being perfect, you look like a bigger idiot and Chef will yell at you even more!

I agree with you. Some of these so called "executive chefs" make some mistakes that make you wonder if they've ever really worked in a kitchen or not before. All the squabbling makes you wonder too. In a kitchen you have to be a team.

I mainly eat at home because it's cheaper and better for me in most cases. But I am wondering if I really want to eat all week at Disney if this show shows what typical kitchens are like. :confused3

I honestly have a "safe" feeling about Disney restaurants. I think they just have very high standards when it comes to sanitation. Or maybe it's just me being optimistic.

I hope you are right.:thumbsup2

I watch Hell's Kitchen and I just figured everything was exaggerated for TV.

But now the Dining Plan is even more disturbing to think about now.:scared1:

Chefs apparently tend to smoke a lot, curse a lot and have a lot of tattoos. Look at the contestants on Top Chef who are supposed to be in a bit higher echelon of chefdom than the Hells Kitchen contestants. And kitchens are hot.

This bunch seems extraordinarily rough though. Until you review past seasons where everyone thinks THAT bunch is the worst of all. I do think you have to consider exaggeration and editing with all reality TV programming. I think the point is that they take people who generally cook for a living, then give them the opportunity to learn how to work in a major restaurant kitchen under a multiple Michelin-starred head chef, with a job in such a kitchen as part of the prize. But it's reality TV, so they do it dramatically, and likely they pick contestants who don't seem to have a chance at being able to do that kind of work. Who knows, maybe they'll turn around during their time on the show, or maybe they'll just give up and act crazy. good TV either way.

I think possible top 2 Justin and Christina. Dana and Barbie as spoilers, Brian as a possible wild card (very wild). Robyn has no chance. Kimmie has no chance. Clemenza has no chance unless his performances are absolutely perfect from here on out. Ramsay does tend to pick 'em younger and skinner than Clemenza is, though.

none seem executive chef material with managerial responsibilities

That's not the kind of position they get apparently. The show says so, but they get paid, they get a year's contract in a position that's probably very good for their resumes, but they're apparently running a station at the most and not the whole kitchen.

They don't hire people with visible tattoos, and I've never seen anyone out on a smoke break, so they are probably a cleaner variety of kitchen help.

Another thing-- Ramsay is always telling those people, "Touch that, just touch it." Yum. Yum. Nicotine fingers touching my food. Sounds delicious.

When he has them all touch it, it's because there is something wrong with it and he doesn't intend to actually serve it. Generally, the only people that touch the food are the person preparing and plating it. Ramsay's doing all the plating, so he's touching stuff, but when he brings it back and asks them all to get over there and touch it, it's because he's rejecting it and he wants to show them what is wrong with it.

And they will have to wash their hands, a lot, while working in the kitchen.

haha...I had to laugh at that one. People do wash their hands you know. The rule of thumb is the prettier the plate and the more "presented" it is the more it had to be touched. For example no one has to put their hands in a bowl of soup but when you get a plate that looks something like below it's pretty much impossible to do without touching at least some elements.

Tiffany was just filthy. She skeeved me out.

If I had to pick someone to win, it would be Christina. She's the least objectionable of the lot, in my opinion... but it's been hard to find someone to pull for this season.

Yep I agree with you on that one. Christina seems to be there to cook. She tries to stay out ot the drama storm as much as possible.
This is by far the worst season I have seen. Just lain icky folks on there and a couple of good ones thrown in. Mostly seems that they picked contestants for "exciting TV" and not so much for cooking abilities.

Over the years there has ben one chef that won this show that really impressed me. I think his name was Danny and he broke his wrist in one of the first few challenges and finished out the season with a cast on. That kid was impressive.

per Wikipedia, his name was Dave Levey.

I really liked him, and Heather from one of the very early seasons.

Why all the reruns? Are they afraid to go up against the Olympics? I'm thinking it'll be hard for them to regain their audience with so many weeks off.
