Where do they find these people? Half of them are all sweaty and tatted up and rough, and they're all chain smokers. It's like that every season.

It is disgusting!
And how do they taste anything with all the smoking?
We watch it on Hulu so I don't know if we are current on episodes, but we just watched the one where they were blindfolded and had to guess what the food was. I asked dh how can they tell, they smoke all the time and right after that the big girl said she wasn't playing because she just smoked.
Also, I always notice several (across all seasons) are "personal chefs" -- right. They cook for their kids!![]()
they are nasty---big time. I haven't watched past seasons, so this is first time,
but ewe, makes me want to check the kitchen staff when we go out to eat! haha!!!
Ick, I hate when they're all sweaty and the front of their shirt is all stained up. I wonder how realistic the kitchen is. I mean, to executive chefs scream epithets to their prep cooks and sous chefs? Does the staff really try to undercut each other or do they work together? Of course, this IS reality TV.![]()

I enjoy Masterchef, but the rest of Chef Ramsey's programs are largely responsible for me just not eating out much any more. I had no idea restaurants could be so gross.
Exactly. This is a kitchen where there are ovens and cooktops throwing out heat constantly and a staff of people trying to get each table's food out in a timely manner. There is going to be sweat and probably more than a little bit of swearing. Especially in a situation where the team hasn't worked together for long and hasn't perfected the "kitchen ballet" that good kitchens develop when they've worked together for a while.Having worked 'the back of the house' for many years, I can tell you it's not pretty. Many kitchens are dirty, many of the chefs aren't sparkly either. It's not on purpose, mind you, but when you get slammed (term for a fully booked and then some night) you need to make sure the food goes out, not if the kitchen is clean or your hair is perfect. Read Bourdain's book Kitchen Confidential and you'll really get an eye-opening experience.
