I saw this site listed on Mouseplanet and thought I'd say hi.

I am registered for the 2006 half marathon and am currently in training. I am using this event as a goal to help me lose weight and also just to prove to myself that I'm not the same little girl who used to get picked last in gym class!

Right now I'm doing a 17:30 minute mile which has to come way down but I think if I keep up with my training I should be able to do my goal of 14:30-15 minute miles for 13.1 miles come January.

Anyway, I'm going to look around a bit and see if there are others in my shoes. It seems like a lot of other place on the internet that talk about the WDW half and full marathon are chock full of well, people who don't face the same challenges I do..that is not only training for the half but also losing weight as I go.

I see I have a lot of informative threads to go through.....you guys seem very chatty..which is good, because so am I!
 
You are so in the right place!! Add me to the list of being the VERY last one being picked in gym class.

I am also in this for many of the smae reasons you are. Losing weight being one of those reasons....but I will share with you what was shared with me.....as you get closer to training.....you have to make a choice....weightloss or train. So, I just thought I would share that with you. But it seems to me like we still have a while to get the weightloss, while we can!! I think it was at the 12-14 weekout mark that you really need to concentrate on training over weightloss!

So welcome aboard!! You will find that there are LOTS on our shoes....and lots that have done this before. You are sure to find the answer to just about any question you may have form people of all differant experiances and levels!!


Make sure to visit the marathoning weekly thread often! Lots of great information and inspiration and support there as well to!!

I'm right there with you on a lot of points - last one picked in gym class, needing to lose weight (in my case a good 80 pounds), etc. I'm also using this event as a goal to help me stay focused on getting more fit.

I look forward to training with you! :flower:
 
Hi Wogger - I was also picked last in gym class (and in my last year actually told my teacher that I wouldn't come in any more if they made me do exercise so took extra music classes instead). I'm now doing the full marathon in 2006 - so welcome and remember who you were yesterday is not who you'll be tomorrow once the marathon bug gets you.
