Hello from the Liberty of the Seas

What are the charges for these places? Just a service charge??
According to their website, Chops is $25pp and Porofino's is "$20-$25"pp (I guess it depends on the ship).
Johnny Rockets is $3.95 pp, including gratuities. Soda, bottled water and milk shakes are offered at current menu prices.
As far as Ben & Jerry's goes, it isn't a service charge. "All ice-cream concoctions are offered at current menu prices." (according to their website)

It seems like RCCL has a lot of places that have extra charges (see above, plus having to buy the soda package if you drink soda) but over all, Disney's prices tend to be higher. But if you check out the Dis cruise boards, you'll find out most people here think you get what you pay for ;).

We were walking through the promenade today and Sorrento's (the pizzaria) had set up a buffet of EVERYTHING John loves. Prosciouto, provolone, sundreied tomatoes, olives, roasted garlic,......we just HAD to stop.:thumbsup2

ya think you can get that ship up the mississippi then up the ohio river? cause that just made me hungry

Ugh, I'm so jealous. I'm jealous especially of the food. I want a vacation!

The second blog entry was great. Loved the food porn shots...

Hey Guys, I hope you have lots of fun on the cruise. When you get back, we'll be looking forward to hearing (or reading) about the things that RCCL does better than DCL.

good to hear you are having a great time

3 blogs - one is an awesome review of Portofino - includes food porn!!!:woohoo: (yes, I realize I'm easy to impress)

A comment on the circular showers:

Basically, they are kinda tight so all you do is coat the walls with shower gel and jump in and spin around with the water on to get all nice and clean. :lmao:

Enjoy!

Now there's an image...:rotfl:

We're in St. Maarten and it's sunny.

It POURED all day in San Juan. We are talking biblical rain. Our souvenier from San Juan was two umbrellas.

But that was yesterday......

Last night I was watching the shopping show and I'm pretty sure I need something called chocolate diamonds and apparently EVERYONE in the world needs something called Tanzanite. I'm told that by the year 2030, the world will run out of Tanzanite.

I might have to stock up.

Ok....John is finally ready and we're off.

Those shopping shows annoy me. They all say how cheap everything is, but when i'm in the stores, I never see anything cheap!

I used to have a tanzanite ring...but it was a gift from the ex. So I no longer wear it...lol

And I only want a chocolate diamond if it's a piece of chocolate in the shape of a diamond! ;)

Enjoy St Maarten! Love the Guavaberry Rum!! And the airport beach...:scared1:

Kevin, if you get a chance, can you elaborate on the differences you are noticing between Freedom and Liberty. Is it just decorative or are there differences in lay out, amenities, etc?

Thanks in advance. Have a wonderful day in St. Maarten!!

:dance3:

I took my kids to Orient Beach last trip. It was wonderful, except for the naked old people :scared1:

The guavaberry rum is good too, i bough two bottles. My wife picked up a nice ring with black diamonds that was apprasied for twice what we paid when we got back.

Oh yes EVERYONE does indeed need Tanzanite - actually it would be a good prize in the prize-matron - WAY better than Richard Petty (no offense Will - and all you other fans.)

Hey since you 2 are on the ship, does that mean you will be calling into this weeks podcast?

No podcasting in your underwear!!:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

Curiousity got the better of me and I looked up Chocolate Diamonds...don't know that they would be too good of an investment.

========================================================
It's funny how until very recently, diamonds of considerably lower colors with brownish hues and yellowish overtones, were simply known as "low color diamonds".

Lower colored diamonds, are not as scarce or valuable as diamonds of icy white colors and therefore command less of a premium than the diamonds of higher (better) color grades.

Problem was, certain diamond mines tended to only produce diamonds of substantially lower colors. Well these are diamonds too and they needed to be sold..right? Well, of course!

Some brilliant marketing guru came up with an incredible idea; why not market these diamonds with finesse! Indeed, why not turn the very liability of the stone into something positive?

Thus, was born the marketing strategy known as "chocolate diamonds," "cognac diamonds," and/or "champagne diamonds".

They have a topaz sort of look.

Tanzanite on the other hand! I LOVE it! Such a pretty color. I have
a pair of Tanzanite earrings.

Brings new meaning to the term "spin cycle".

Tanzanite is beautiful.....love it!
After reading your experiences, I may have to reconsider cruising. Dh and I have only went on one (15 yrs ago), but it was a small ship and just not enough to do for us. Enjoy your cruise!
