Hello All..
My name's Troy. I live in Texas and my wife Kim and I have 3 children; 19, 10, 4.. We will be headin' out from Houston to Disney World at the end of Nov. prior to Thanksgiving. The two younger kids are going with us. Which forum should I inquire about our trip and to make the best of it? Maybe this is it? We're planning on staying at the All-Star Movies for 4 nights (arriving on a Sunday late afternoon/early evening) and leaving the Wednesday after a full day). I'm in the military, 20+ with the Air Force Texas Air National Guard (Active and Guard). Neither one of us have ever been to Disney Hollywood Studios. Is it possible to see all the attractions in one day? We're planning on visiting a theme park a day (Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Studios). We will be driving there. We had flown in the past, but the ticket prices are sky-high now... Plus, we'll have our Durango to visit my Uncle for Thanksgiving over in Melbourne..

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom and/or advice.. We're thinking on getting the tickets/resort reservations over the weekend for the trip.

PS: is it my imagination or is it cheaper to purchase the resort time and tickets separately? It seems that way when I tried online browsing..

Cheers,
Troy

Thanks for the welcome all.... Hope to have things squared away regarding the resort reservations by week's end. I'll probably put off getting the tickets until it's closer. There will hopefully be an extension of military discounts past Oct into the end of the year.. We'll see...

Cheers,
Troy

HOWDY NEIGHBOR..!!

Can't help you much with the planning since the last two times that I went to Disney were for conferences and only did 2 days of disney parks (and didn't get to finish).

Hope you're able to find some good airfare. Our trip is in August and we were struggling with airfare also($148 one way) and had decided in driving to Orlando..... BUT then we saw cheaper flights from San Antonio ($89 one way). So we have decided to do the 3hr drive to San Antonio and fly from there.

Good luck with planning your trip and have fun with the family...!

Well, under advisement, I at least booked a vacation at the very least. It looks like I have a vacation reservation for 4nights/4days at the Allstar-Movies/tickets with the quick-service meal plan for free... $1440.. If I find a better deal, I can always cancel and take the better plan all the way up to Oct.01... Is this a good deal or are there better deals to be had?

We are from south of Houston and drove to WDW March 2009. My husband drove all the way non-stop! Be sure to buy a few of those 5 hour energy drinks as they helped alot! We left in the evening and took the interstate thinking it would be better, that way the kids could sleep most of the way and we arrived the next morning. But the first half of the interstate between here and there was in horrible condition and we didn't get much sleep at all. I figured it would be smooth like most highways but nope.

I think you probably got a good deal seeing as it includes food. On our trip we had plans for sit down meals but ended up being so busy we skipped most of them and grabbed food at quick service counters. So I think you are covered there.

One thing I would suggest is to read up on Hollywood Studios and list the rides/shows you think your family will enjoy most and do those because there is no way you will get to do all. Then there will probably be some things you might still miss :) All the more reason to go back. If youve never been, your gonna love it and will want to go back :) My favorite was the Muppets show and eating at the Sci-Fi. Burgers are good!

And yes, I think this is the best board/forum for this. You can get ALL your questions answered and usually they have already been if you just search. Plus there are things you will never even think of - like I never heard of fridge swap til I came here!

Oh and sometimes it is cheaper to do room only and tickets. They offer package deals though and it can be cheaper that way when they come along.

Check out MouseSavers.com for some good tips. They also have a discount code to get a good ticket deal from UndercoverTourist.com which I think is probably the cheapest place to get them.

And being in the military you should check out Shades of Green resort if youre not staying there. I think it is cheaper and for military only. They might know of a way to get cheaper tix too!
