Quick background, My family and I have been to Disney every year since 1991. We bought DVC in 1994. We most recently have been going down to the parks in October. It is about this time each year that I begin to catch myself up on all the latest happenings at the park. The question I have is "WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO THE TICKETS!!". Talk about a lesson on staying informed. I have tried to do some research but since the change occurred in January it seems I can't find just what I am looking for. My immediate questions include:

1. Do most people like the new format?

2. Is there anyone that it is a better value for? For instance how much more is it to have a 7 day ticket with all the perks including no expiration compared to the old 7 day park hopper -plus passes?

Thanks for the help.

The new tickets are a terrific bargain for people staying more than just a few days. The more days you go out they only go up something like $5.00 a day. We just got back from an 8 night stay and the tickets were cheaper for us than they were two years ago for a shorter stay.

I think most people like the new ticket format, but it really does depend on what you are used to buying. Last year, I purshased our family six day park hopper plus tickets. These tickets were for six days in the parks with the hopping feature included, no expiration included and three plus features included. When the new format came out, I priced a 5 day ticket with the hopper feature added on, the plus feature added on, and the no expiration feature added on. I wanted the features on the current ticket to be the same with what I bought last year. The new 5 day tickets cost $52.00 more per ticket that the prior years 6 day tickets.

Now, what I ended up doing was buying 4 day park hopper tickets from AAA and then adding extra days on when we got down there. The additional cost was $11.00 per ticket extra. This ended up being a lot cheaper than if I would have bought the total number of days to begin with.

I don't mind the new ticket format, but I do mind that Disney tells me that it was for my benefit. If you usually go for 7 days or more, then it is a benefit. But for most people, a Disney trip is about 5 days. Disney knew this when they implemented the new format. Basically, it comes down to people buying 5 day tickets are paying for discount given to 7 day or longer tickets. And Disney still gets their money from people buying 7 day tickets with the increase room rentals and increased park spending.
