Hello there!

Just thought I would say hello I have been reading them for a little while and thought I would take the plunge and start posting!
I am 24 and I am a homesick Brit living in Maryland. In fact I am so homesick on my last vist to WDW i spent many hours (and drank many beers! :p ) in the Rose & Crown never has the black stuff tasted so good!
Anyway hope you will let me get my Brit fix every now and again!

nice to meet you all!

But I live in Canada and have for many years. Are you staying in the States permanently or just for awhile?
Change is always hard, we are all creatures of habit really.I have a nephew (my sister's only son) who couldn't get work in Canada so he has been living/working in Aberdeen, Scotland for the last 5 years. He was soooooo homesick and often still is. He talks all the time about coming back to Canada and visits often.Good Luck to you!:D

Hi minnie 56,
Thanks for the kind words! I think i am here for a long while, I used to be in the RAF but now work as an "advisor" to the US Air force ( I train the Americans about the Harrier) I have met the best Girl in the world over here so it looks like staying here is for me but i do miss England so much, Even stupid things like calling the Loo the loo!! Here if you say the loo people look at you stupid!! But not as daft as the time i went into the Store and asked for a packet of fags.................

Hi "Bump" and welcome to the DIS :D ! You can hang around with us as often as you want :D
It's good to hear that you've met someone you like so much - that must ease the homesickness! Hopefully, you'll be able to bring her over here one day!

yeah its helped loads! Hopefully we are coming back home For Christmas cant wait!!!!!

Hi Bump,
Nice to hear from you it seems strange to hear on these boards that someone is "homesick" for the UK! I'm not sure about others but every time I return to the USA I think of it as "going home" and get very depressed at the thought of returning to the UK.
I have a mate who now lives in Florida (works in Disney)and he as settled really well and say's he couldn't imagine living in the UK again.Next time you get homesick try thinking about our wonderful English summers (yesterday was 14 degrees celcius and pouring rain)our Railway system, the price of petrol, and oh yes next week all the council workers are going on strike!!!
God bless America!!

Mick.

when asking for a packet of fags.....the mind boggles at the possibilities of what you could have got!! ha ha....
What part of England are you from??
I'm from London (just outside, Kenton)and although having been here so long, I too miss England and go back every couple of years.I have two daughters who love England and only ever want to go there for holidays! They are most proud of their heritage.
Actually, my Mum and sister are over there now, at a cottage in Cornwall at the moment, and they both say despite having been here 41 years that they are going back! I've heard that forever! My Mum is in the 'twilight' of life now and I am saddened that she won't spend the last chapter where her heart is.There really is a time to go and a time to stay.
But, it is really a different way of life on this side of the world and I think home always pulls at your heart.
Look forward to your times you can visit, maybe your 'girlfriend' will come to your side of the world one day??!
I know in time, you'll be fine!!
:D

All my friends back home think I am crazy to miss the UK but i really do! The weather here in Maryland is not that much different to the Uk (ok maybe a little hotter :) ) But i do miss crazy little thing like going down tho the football on a saturday afternoon( I am from Norwich and love Norwich City Football Club!!) and a nice pint of bitter is impossiable to find! There are however as you have pointed out Mick great advantages to living here, for example it is much cheaper to eat out or fill your car with petrol.

I know what you mean minnie maybe I am seeing England through Rose coloured glasses? I am remembering the good stuff and not the stuff that drove me crazy! And yes me and Helen are coming back for Christmas and sure wants to go to Disneyland Paris, which is fine by me as I have never been but heard some great things about!
Thanks again for the smashing welcome!

Hi Bump!

Glad you decided to jump in and start posting :D With a vengence too! I've been reading all your posts on the main CB teaching everyone 'our' English, LOL.

Can you guess i was home alone yesterday with nothing to do?:D

Hehehe, well feel free to post away to your hearts content - though at this rate, you'll have caught up to my post count in about 2 weeks ;)

Hi Bump

On the ball city. Wow a Canaries fan on the board. I live just outside Norwich in Lowestoft and am a regular supporter of the old canaries. I was gutted they didnt make it into the premership.

I can understand why you miss this county and the good old bitter.

Anyhow i ramble its good to see you over here.

Tracey

Hey Bump i just wanted to say hi and that you are welcome to hang out with us Brit's whenever you are feeling homesick!!!

Eda

Poor Bump!
I really feel for you because homesickness is miserable but the old saying "the grass is always greener " is SO true!
Just think, if you have met the Girl of your dreams you will be able to live on either side of the pond and we will all be Soooo envious of you.
My Sister has lived in Florida for over 40 years now and wouldn't dream of coming back but there are still some things she misses and each time we go over the Pond we have to take emergency supplies of chocolate etc.
But at the end of the day it's not where you live but how you live & who you love that matter. Keep posting and we'll do our best to cheer you up!
Carol
