Hello Campers ! Need advice pretty please

May I also suggest you go to this site's home page and find pictures of the cabins. Pull them up and let your family take a peek. This might help all of you decide if the cabins are a good choice.

Several years ago my husband, I, and our youngest daughter went camping at the fort. My two older daughters and one of their husbands joined us and stayed at the cabins, and trust me,my middle daughter is NOT the camping type, and she loved the cabins.

Well I did show them pics. Thats the issue. They didnt like the rustic look or design of them. I told them I agree that it was not anything impressive but to imagine how much fun the "experience" of staying there can be.

I told my teen, that when I stayed there as a teen , I enjoyed riding around in the cart and feeling a sense of freedom . Not to mention the peaceful feeling and sense of adventure you get there that the other resorts dont have. I told she she cant hate it intil she has tried it once . She is still the most unsure but is looking foward to archery now.

The boys are hooked on the ideas of catching frogs , fishing, and horses.

My husband like me being from Florida originally is interested in old Florida history and once I turned him onto some of the history of the fort and reminded him of how he loves those old mossy trees , he was sold.

I pretty much brainwashed them all so far. lol I just hope everything actually goes well.

I'm sad to say but no, there are no washer or dryer in the cabins.
I wished they did have them, as it would make it easier for us.
I know your family will enjoy their time at the cabins, as the cabins are really nice.
I love getting up in the morning and sitting outside.

My son who was 28 years old took off every evening driving in the golf cart to go to the beach, he wouldn't come back until really late, sometimes 4 am.
He said he really enjoyed sitting by the beach, and I said just watching god knows what? He said no, that a few times he fell asleep, as it was so peaceful out there. lol crazy kid or should i say crazy young man. lol

He can't wait until this coming Christmas, as we plan to go again and he will fly in to be with us as long as he is still in the states. He is in the Air Force now. We took him last July- Aug for a family trip, before he went to boot-camp.

Hearing about your son warmed my heart. I was going to say he must be brave to sleep on that beach with snakes and spiders ! lol But then you said boot camp and AF and it made sense ! My brother ( my mom had kids later) joined the Marines and thats the kind of stuff he loves to do now also. In fact when he first came back from Iraq he couldnt sleep good indoors at all and we found him sleeping outside first few nights.

It sounds like you had a really nice time together. I hope that when all my kids are older, that as much as they tease me about my love of Disney now , that they still enjoy taking trips there together .

Take lots of pics to share in December with us ! I really want to go in December but my family also loves the quiet of September . I might try to sneak on a quick family December trip myself ! Shhh dont tell the husband. I hear its beautiful then.

Also has anyone stayed in the cabins in hurricane weather ? I am not one to worry about them usually. I grew up with them . Since we are going at the height of the season I wonder what the back up is in case of a nearby hit ? I know a few years ago we drove down with 4 hurricanes headed to Fl and we went anyway and were fine. Parks were nice and empty ! But wonder where they relocate you to or if they do in the event one does roll through . No sense thinking about it yet anyway I guess.

BUT If anyone knows anything about where the washer / dryers are located for the cabins please let me know. I would like to ask for a locaton near them.

Thanks everyone for all the great help and advice.

Ha! You are like me. Forget the scenery, put me near the washers and dryers.

We like to pack light, and I don't like to see the laundry pile up!

We loved FW even more than we thought we would. I can't say I would always stay there, just because I like to change things up, but I would not hesitate for one second to go back there. The fort had so many things to do that we didn't really even get a chance to do everything. Scooting around in the golf carts was a blast and the fellow-guests at the fort just seemed so friendly to me.

To give you an idea, I have a friend who loves WDW and they always stayed in the cabins. This past year, they were finally able to comfortably afford a deluxe hotel for their stay and so they booked Yacht Club. Well, on the second day, my friend made her husband switch them to the cabins. She just found FW much more entertaining for her children who are in their early teens.

You got that right ! lol There would be no scenic anything a couple days in with my teenager's her million outfit changes , not to mention the boys . I would be lucky to make it to the door let alone see out a window anyway. lol

Thats so good to hear! I had forgotten about this but we did do camping at Montauk Beach in NY and it was soooo cold at night. So they still remember that. I have told them its a "cabin" a million times though. sigh...

I have heard so much about the everyone being friendly. If its anything there like it is on this board we are in good hands. You all have been so helpful. :)

When I heard a liitle gripe about the cabins yesterday, I told them they could stay at the " Grand Floridian" and they all groaned. lol Seriously who does that? lol But they are boys so I guess I can see its a girly sort of place. Besides they just like to tease me .

I am making them sound bratty and they really aren't . They usually are pretty easy going , sweet kids . Its partially a coolness thing , especially with my teen. Once we get there its always been replaced with smiles and laughter. Thats why I "really" love Disney! lol It does miracles, even with teens!

I would have really doubted it and maybe cancelled it had it not been for all of you helping me to feel better about it . Thank you for that . :)

I think this will be the new favorite place for all of them. The question is how do I sneak all the frogs and lizards back to the wild after they have been captured! lol ( Tinkerbell did it ?)

I have a few cute suprises for everyone that I think will make them very happy. Its simple stuff but its a big deal to them. I will have to post some pics in my pre-trip report. Its all thanks to another Dis'er who does not even realize how much she has helped us yet ! I plan to suprise them when we get to the fort .
