I have a quick question that I hope someone can answer. My hubby and I will be visiting Disney in November for our 20th anniversary. We have gone every 5 years, but this will be the first time I will be traveling with a disability (I now walk with a clip crutch/cane). I was told that if we valet park at the Yacht club, it would be free because I have a handicap place card by a family member, but can find nothing about this anyway on Disney.

If this is true, what will Disney need? Just the place card?

Thank you very much ^_^

I have read that, and will be trying it out for the first time next month (just got a Handicapped placard).

I was with my friend last December and we parked valet parked at ( I think the beach club) he has a handicap card and it was free.

Thank you all for your answers ^_^ Very helpful! I do have another question, if I may? I have been getting conflicting answers on the DAS card. I have a knee brace and use a clip cane (goes around the forearm). I can not stand in lines very long anymore. The longer I stand the more off balance I get. But if I sit to long, the knee locks up so I'm not sure if I want to use a ECV. Will I be able to get a DAS with this? It would be ideal if I could get a return time and go sit or walk as needed. Thanks again!

Here in this group, you will probably be told you do not qualify for the DAS as Disney will probably consider this a mobility issue. Regarding mobility issues, Disney almost always suggests a WC or EVC.
However, none of us can truly speak for Disney. If I was in your situation, I would go and plead my case at Guest Services and see what they say. If initially they say no, then try their suggestion. If after trying it "their way" you are still having issues, do not hesitate to go back to Guest Services again and explain why it is not working and see what they have to say then.

to be honied this really is a mobility problem since you need a place to sit, you do not need a place to sit all the time to an ECV is not helpful to you. I have heard of guest being mean to the CM ( for this very reason and getting a DAS card I was behind one at the MK when there was only one CM giving out DAS cards) and one time when getting a return time a space another guest was too at the same time as I was we both left about the same time as we were walking away he tells me ( I think this is his exact words) man getting this thing for my knee problems was so hard but now i get to go on 2x more rides. I looked at him confused and he said I had to go to GR ( I think he said 3 times) and every time the CM said no I had to get a little rude to get one, but now I can get a return time and then go on other rides while waiting. I had nothing to say to this man after this. another time ( agin at MK) I walked in the get my DAS card early in the mornings they do this where you pick up you packaged and some times there is only one CM in there I only got the end of what was said but the guest was almost yelling saying they had a hurt back and if they sat in a wheel chair or ECV it would make it worst the CM said they did not need to sit they could push it that the where no gerrentee for them to have a site some where ( things that I pointed out to you) finally the CM told the gust they were not going to give them a DAS card and would be calling security. the guest did leave after that while looking at me saying good luck.

with this said if you look on disney website
https://wdpromedia.disney.go.com/me...Disability-Access-Service-Card-2014-04-10.pdf

"Does a Guest whose disability is based on the necessity to use a wheelchair or scooter need a DAS Card?
No, a Guest whose disability is based on the necessity to use a wheelchair or scooter does not need a DAS Card. Depending on the attraction, Guests utilizing a wheelchair or scooter will either wait in the standard queue or receive a return time at the attraction comparable to the current wait time. For some attractions at Disneyland Resort, these Guests will go directly to an alternate entrance. Guests with additional needs should discuss them with Guest Relations."

I really this they should have also put need to site here

some other thing to think about is some lines have pre show where every one stands no matter what ( soaring caught floor things like this) where every guest stands for it.

I do not know how much you have to site but other people have said they have problems with needing to site ( for other resion I think this was a back problem) and they were not able to find a set any where and their back locked up and they ended up in a lot of pain ( I think they had to go back to there hotel room for a long rest)

disney has been taking benches out of the park it really is harder to find a place to site sometimes you can not even sit on the ground with out being in the way not too sure how you would do with getting up from the ground.

something I would do is get a roller ( thing thing with the set on it) and use this. this would give you a set when you need it and you would know you had one. there would be no looking no what if you can not find a place to sit what if you are stuck in a long line then you thought ( ride break down a test get hurts they have to put another ride car on the ride all of this things have happened to me plus a few other ) so ever with a DAS you can still be waiting a long time or if you do not have a roller or know where to get one a wheel chair would do this same. no you do not have to sit in it all the time you can push it you can leave it some where ( like if the morning you knee is good ) you can park it somewhere and walk around the land you are in. of you have any kinds of bag you can keep it in the set so you do not have to carry it with you all the time. the use the wheel chair or roller when you need it to either push or sit in.

also the DAS dose nothing for when you are waiting for the busses ( I do not know if you will be using disney busses or driving) but I have waited for over an hour ( one time 2 because there was a car accident and no busses could get to the MK for about 45 minutes and this happened right after the fire works)

Thank you again ^_^ I will rent an ECV if Disney says to try that first and if that doesn't work I will go back to them and ask again.

I think I may be asking too many questions here, but, here goes, lol.

My Hubby was diagnosed with Crohn's (horrible disease, that) and when he needs to go, he needs to go right now. How is the situation with bathrooms in the Disney Parks? He is very worried (and embarrassed, so I know he won't ask) that he won't be able to make it if the bathrooms are to far apart :(

I know someone with crohns and they go to disney more then I do ( they only live an hour away) they have never needed a DAS ( I think they go so often that if a line is too long then they do not go or if he is having a bad day then they take it easer. you by all means can talk to GR about what ever you think will help you with your trip and see what they say.

a few thing to think about
all ways know how long the ride or show is some rides like Ellions universe of energy are about 45 minutes long and there is no getting out there are a few show that you can not leave either. so I would ask the CM you do not have to say why you need to leave just ask how long it is and if you need to leave can you. I have left a few of the hows at EPCOT and the CM have asked that I sit in the back incase I do need to leave ( I have no problem with this)

for the most part there are a good number of bathroom at disney but make sure you know where the close bathroom is and my be stop at GR and tell them you have some bathroom need and my have to go now and ask then if there are any bathroom closed so that you know not to go to that one you also have the canpaion restrooms all thought they can take a long time if someone is in them. the nice thing about the restroom at disney is that there are so many of them ( like in the bathroom itself) you can not see thought the creck of the doors people are so busy with there day no one will notice if you are in there for a while ( and I really think to into getting back out to really care) also with all the flushing you really do not hear any noises form other stall ( if you get my drift) I find that some times put-on on ear buds and listen to music helps me when I feel self confined going ( I hope you understand what I am saying) this dose not mean you can not sue what ever bathroom you want, also fist aid has bathroom but you will need to tell the nurse in there why you need to use that one and not the ones righteous side ( and they are nuses so do not be embarriest ) my friend all ways travels with a change of clothes just incase they bring a pair of under wear and light weight shorts that dose not take up a lot of room for the just in case ( they needed it one time that I know of) also if you know of any foods that make thing worst or any thing like that ( I have heard from my friend that stay hydrated helps them)

also remember that even FP lines can be long if you do need to get out of line and you care close enough to the front that your DH can not go and come back then both get out of the line have him go straight to the bathroom and you talk to the CM at the front of the ride and let them know and they will help you out. ( I have had to step out of line for a number of reason and was always let back in the FP line. you just have to talk to the CM at the front)

Thank you! He will feel better know that their are plenty of bathrooms around and that the CMs will be nice about it ^_^ I will bring a change of clothes for him just in case. You all have been very help full!

you know you husband best and what will or might work for him all I can do ( and really anyone here is give you ideas of what might work ( I forgot to add this to the end of my lest post)

also here is the guide for guest with cognitive disabilities ( and I know you have not said that you have any cognitive disabilities but staring on page 21 it list rides and things about then like fast if you get wet but for your DH it list how long they last so this way you can decide if you need to talk to the CM and see if you can exit if need be and if you do what should you do. some have you exiting some place direct then when you came in some you will exit out one door ( if you need to leave early ) so just ask and like I said some you can not at

Hi @Victoriarose1968!

Couple of quick tips for you -

First, taking along an extra change of clothes is a great idea. Pack that flat in a gallon size zip-lock storage bag, so that security can see (and "squish") the bag contents to confirm that they don't need to open it. (Just returned home from the parks, and that is how I dealt with my extra change)

Next, make it a habit to grab 2 copies of the map for every Park as you enter; that way you each have one, and your hubby can use his to spot restrooms on, as those are clearly marked on the maps.

Finally, take along the names & phone numbers of some local ECV rental companies in Orlando in your phone. If you get there, and realize that renting an ECV to use at the Parks and the resort is what you need, you will be prepared!

Have a super trip!

Thank you, Mamabunny ^_^ I love the idea of the gallon size zip locks! We will grab two maps (he hogs it anyway :teeth:). On the advice of another board member I looked into Walker Mobility and they seem to have very good prices! So we went ahead and booked a scooter for me ^_^
