Height Requirements

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the 'measuring sticks' they use to measure for the height requirements. Do they factor a 'shoe height' into the stick or are they really the actual height. For instance is a 40" 'stick' really just 40", or more like 41"? I have a kiddo that is 40" in his shoes but more like 39.5" flat footed. We've been preparing him to hear no, but I thought it was worth asking.

It seemed to me that the sticks were just a touch above the actual height. However, just prior to one of our trips dd was officially 38.5 in at her dr but made the cut for Splash just a month later. Good idea to prepare your child to hear no, it is a bummer to not ride but it is for safety. That being said, if your child is real close to the height don't let them wear skinny soled sandals. Wear some sturdy tennis shoes that may boost the height just enough to ride. Also, teach your child to stand up straight as the sticks have a bar that the child's head must hit to ride. Let your child know to try to hit their head on the top of the bar. Many kids bend down as it is a natural reaction to avoid bumping your head on anything. Have a magical vacation!

Also try to hit the rides with height requirements first thing in the morning. We shrink as the day goes on. Good luck! DD wasn't tall enough for Test Track on our last trip and was quite upset even with all the preparation ahead of time. She didn't mind missing Soarin' or Thunder or Splash but really wanted to go on TT. *sigh*

Thanks for the information and suggestions. We still have a couple months before the trip, but we're already preparing him for no... We're also trying to explain to him that he might be able to go on one ride one day, but not the next... Confusing for kiddos! Luckily we live in California so Disneyland is just a 5 hour car ride away to soften the blow! Thanks again!

Last year my son was at 38 1/2 inches at his 3 year old check up in June. Our vacation was the end of September and he had shot up to a little over 40 inches and was able to ride Soarin', Splash and Big Thunder! I did not put him on ToT because I felt like he wasn't ready for that dark ride yet. Don't give up and good luck!
