Height requirements. Here at Disney now!

My family always tried to "cheat" ride heights with my little sister. Higher shoes...hair up..etc.lol. Poor girl was always the shortest in her age group.
If a child is just under a height requirement they aren't in danger. Ride heights have become so much more strict over the years. Were they more dangerous then? I don't think so..I think now companies try to limit any kind of liability since we seem to live in a sue happy world.
I just hope no child is ever harmed by cheating the system. Cause it's not there to punish but to protect. To each their own though. I adhere to car seat rule too. DGD is 8 and still in a high back booster. Cause that is what is safer. Just can't comprehend taking risks with a child's safety

I agree with safety..and don't think that just missing a height..I mean just missing-like directly below the line, is at all putting a child in danger. Especially when similar rides have lower height requirements at other parks. Also, because I grew up on said rides, without harnesses, only lap bars back then, and we were all fine.
Car seats however- totally different ballgame. My son was rear facing until 2 and a half. And is still in an actual car seat after just turning 6. He will remain there until probably just before 1st grade. Car accidents are not comparable to the low restriction on child restraints when I was younger. We didn't have people texting back then...etc.

All of that being said, I don't think you can get away with it anymore. I think everywhere has become a lot more strict on being exact or higher heights. But 20 years ago? Yeah, you could.

Just to note..OP here...staying at CBR and there's a height board by the pirate ship, DS measures at the 40 inch line without shoes! So IDK. Going to MK tmrw. We'll see how it goes!

On our first ever trip way back when our DS couldn't get on Space Mountain on our first try. The little hockey stick measuring stick thingy was brushing over the top of his hair so it was a no-go. This was on our first day. We decided to try again on our last day and this time the measuring stick literally smacked him in his forehead!!! Either it was a different stick OR he really seriously had an overnight growth spurt!! Worth trying again - however I sort of agree with some other posters that he might be too young for the ride intensity...it is very loud & jerky and you should be sure that he's OK with "dark rides" first. Good luck!

We would take a a few napkins, fold them up and put them in the heel of the kid's shoe. Then after the ride, take them out. 3 is a little young for Dinosaur. It is really scary. And my kid liked dinosaurs.

If your child isnt tall enough you want to stuff napkins into the shoes to make them tall enough?

Gotta get on that ride at any cost.

Whew, I thought I was the only one who had known that trick lol. I don't know if it's possible these days..but like I said earlier-it was when I was a kid!

True. But those lap bars were not 100% safe. People were harmed and that led to the stricter requirements.
Just like with car seats. Sure I was safe without a car seat 50 years ago. But other kids weren't so lucky. That led to our more strict laws today.
I know accidents are rare but I sure don't want to be that one person by stuffing shoes or adding a pony tail

With the repeat of the napkin trick just remember if any CM suspects something is suspicious they can ask kids to remove shoes. It doesn't happen often but if they think you are trying to cheat the system they can ask/deny entry. To me it just isn't worth the risk. Not only is it about safety but if a CM has an audit and they are found to have let a too small person through then it is a safety violation which coukd ultimately cost them their job.

Before things get too out of hand.. And yes, judgements are already being passed.. I know that I was referring to years ago, as I stated. Probably the pp was as well. If you grow up going to amusement parks then either someone in your family or someone you know has done this at some point.
If you don't grow up going to amusement parks- it probably sounds totally crazy. Lol
