Does anyone know the minimum height requirement for Space Mountain and are they really strict about it?

Minimum height for Space Mountain is 44 inches, and yes, they are strict about the height restrictions at ALL the parks!! One thing about Space Mountain is that you sit alone in the car. You can't see your kids in front or behind you. YOu wouldnt want a small child where you cant see them or then cant see you.

Yes they are very strict for safety and legal reasons.

You can check height restrictions HERE

Space Mountain is 44", btw.

1) 44"
2) Yes, they do use "story poles" to check height.

NOTE: This is not over-critical or too picky. Ride safety systems are meant to restrain parts of the body, and if the size is too short, the restraints may not function properly, causing or allowing injury.

My daughter just turned 5 yesterday. She weighs 39 pounds and is exactly 44 inches high. Is this ride safe for her or would you advise against?

My DD is 6 but exactly the same height and weight 44 inches and 39 pounds. She rode it a couple of weeks ago 3 times and loved it. I felt safe about it since Disney set the 44 inch requirement, and I feel like they are probably conservative about the height requirements they set for safety reasons. It depends on your child - mine lives for thrill rides and gets bored easily in Fantasyland. I could tell she was nervous because she wasn't going to be able to see me, so I told her I would keep touching her shoulder - it's easy to do during the ride - and this let her know I was still back there. The rest of the rides she insisted "don't touch me this time! I can do it!" If your child lives for thrill rides like mine does, go for it.

Thanks! She's really excited to go on Space Mountain but I didn't want to take any chances.

Just make sure you get them to measure her BEFORE you go into the ride. It's never happened to us, but I have heard stories on this board of getting measured outside the line and okayed and then the CM at the ride measured again and refused them. My DD was exactly 44 inches by my measurements here at home before we left, so I was little nervous that she might be refused if there or my measuring stick was off. But she was exactly 44 inches at WDW as well. I just tried to not talk about it that much when planning for the trip and even a couple of times said that we would have to wait until we got there to see what they said, just in case they did refuse her. Had no problems at all though.
