Heely's not allowed in Parks

Actually, it's not just a WDW law that Heely's or skateboarding is not allowed on property, it is a STATE of FLORIDA law.

Abstract: (3) This section does not grant authority or permission for a person to engage in skateboarding, inline skating, or freestyle bicycling on property owned or controlled by a governmental entity unless such governmental entity has specifically designated such area for skateboarding, inline skating, and freestyle bicycling. skateboarding, inline skating, or freestyle bicycling on its property

Most shopping centers around the state have signs posted as well stating that rollerblading, skateboarding, etc is not allowed on public property.

I've been reading these very heated comments about kids wearing heely's and how outrageous this behavior is. As a court appointed attorney for juvenile delinquents, I have to say that these complaints ring really petty to me. There's alot of worse things a kid could do than enjoy a day at Disney World while wearing heely's. I don't see this as a huge safety issue. Running can be just as dangerous. But, some gripey fuddy-duddies successfully put the cabash on kids having a little too much fun as Disney World, so the rules must be obeyed.

I see though that the law has to be changed to include the actual word "heely" because too many do not put them in the category of being skates. CM's are always telling people to stop running; it isn't allowed either because it's a safety issue.

It may be a petty complaint, but it IS a hazard to have people on wheels in the park. I have been bumped into and I have seen kids wreck on these. Besides, it doesn't matter if you or anyone else thinks it's petty; it's the LAW to not wear them in the parks.

The real issue is people who think that rules don't apply to them.

It stops being about "kids having a little too much fun" as soon as said kids start plowing into and injuring innocent people.

Yes, it would be a waste of the courts time, so if parents could just do their job and tell the kids "no" it would be a big help to those that have to enforce rules in public places.

We just got back from a 5 day trip to Universal, they haven't been banned there. I have to say I laughed when I saw them there, all I could think of was how outraged people on the DIS would be.

That said, not once did I see any kid acting disrespectfully with them, or zooming down paths and ramming into people with wheelchairs and what not. Most were just gliding, as my own kids have always done on their Heelys. But I guess if they are banning them at WDW, Universal won't be far behind.

I agree with Nancy 100%. Allowing kids to break laws (and I do mean LAWS) because the offense is relatively minor is the beginning of a slippery slope....and the beginning of "why should I have to obey rules? I broke this law, rule, etc. and nothing happened." If the law is one that should not be enforced, it should be repealed.

See, now this is what really ticks me off. Total lack of respect for someone with authority just trying to do his/her job.

Alot of the stores around our area have put signs on the doors, no Heely's allowed in store. Don't know if it is working or not.

If I happen to be down on Main Street and I see a guest wearing Heelys, I am not the least bit shy about informing the parents as well as the child that these are simply not allowed to be used anywhere on property. If that parent gets mad, well then too bad. I jsut tell them that it is actually against Florida law and to please remove the wheels or leave the park.

Simple as that. I do watch to make sure they have complied. There have only been 2 times that follow up was needed.

Actually anything on wheels-skateboarding, inline skates, Heelys are banned in any public walkway in the STATE of Florida. Universal must be overlooking the problem. The first time someone gets hurt and attempts a lawsuit though, will be when the all important signs start going up.

Those kids had to start breaking small rules that were over looked because they were "frivilous", before they went on to the ones that weren't over looked. If those kids had been taught that ALL rules big or little are meant to be followed and what would happen if they broke said rules. You might not see them in your court at all!

I would never tattle either, unless I saw someone really abusing them.

I get to be the heely meanie in the store a lot. I'm always telling the kids they can't skate in the store. I don't say anything to the ones that are doing just a teeny glide, but there are those that think our nice big aisles are fun to zip around on. Those are the ones I stop.

In my opinion, no parent should allow their children anywhere other people may be in these abominations.

They're a mess, and not only are they dangerous to the person wearing them, they're dangerous to the people around them.

Disney + Heely's do NOT work.

Heely's should be banned.

Report them to CM's when you see them. If they get tired of the reports maybe they will get security to look out for them at the gates.

CM's are tired of the reports. More than that, they are tired of not having any power behind them. CM's can only do so much.

So, please, PLEASE take it a step further. Report it to Guest Relations. If you do not want to take the time to go to Guest Relations, find an area manager and report it to them. (They are the ones dressed in business casual with a blue colored id card around their necks.) Or you could even be pro-active and send off an email before you even go about your concerns with children wearing Heelys.
