I just saw this on the Theme Parks Attractions board.

I know Heely's are a hot topic around here. If you're planning on packing them for your kids to take to WDW, leave them at home (the wheels anyway). According to the other thread it is stated in Allearsnet newsletter. Just thought I'd pass that along.

We have two kids (8,7) and I would never allow them to have these at a park like disney

too many people and too many things could go wrong.. Not very responsible of parents if they allow their kids to have these, in this setting..

Good call by Disney

Until WDW puts up a sign stating this, kids will be wearing them in the parks until the fad fades away. It is not obvious AT ALL that they are not allowed.

Off topic but I love when kids try to show off while wearing those then they fall and turn red! :rotfl:

Report them to CM's when you see them. If they get tired of the reports maybe they will get security to look out for them at the gates.

It's sad that security is more concerned about offensive T-shirts than actual safety issues like Heelys.

I do report them to the nearest CMs and sometimes they do something, sometimes they don't. I can't stand those shoes anywhere. Security at our mall 2 nights ago was asking a family to have their kids put the wheels away, they were not safe and not allowed, and the parents were arguing right back

Good , I say. After seeing an older kid mow down a toddler in Target, I say good riddence.. :sad2:

Count me in as another DISer that will be reporting any Heely-wearers to the nearest cast member during my trip in May. :thumbsup2

*Would you believe that the other day in the grocery store I saw a boy, about 4yo, wearing Heelys & he had a HELMET & knee pads on??
That shows that his mother knows they are dangerous for her child & yet she allows him to Heely in a grocery store.
And actually, the poor kid was hanging on to the shopping cart almost the entire time. He looked ridiculous...helmet, Heely's, in a store.

I agree, my kids have them but are only allowed to wear them at home. A few weeks ago, we were in Chili's and there was a kid that kept going back and forth to the bath (over & over), he was hauling *butt*;) on his. He almost caused a waiter to drop a tray of food.

Here we go again.....

I'm not trying to start a debate, just passing along what I read on the Theme Parks board, no one there tried made snide remarks. This is a Disney board and many people here are planning trips, just thought it might be helpful. If you don't like it or don't want to read it, just move along.:drive:

See , I can see kids being allowed them at home, and to some extent older kids being allowed to skate around their neighborhood (with helmets, lol , I heard how those shoes aren't really balanced good for highspeed skating).

But why would parents let their kids skate in crowded public places like malls and resteraunts? :confused3 You don't see ppl rollerblading in the food court.. I don't get it... lol

Here's the actual quote from the newsletter from someone who was recently at the park:
"We just got back from Disney World today... please let your readers know that "Heelys" (skate sneakers) are not permitted in any amusement park in Florida. We were stopped by a Disney employee who informed us that we could be fined up to $150 by the sheriff!"

I have often posted this on these threads: I think heeleys look like fun. I want a pair. But if I had them, I wouldn't use them in the parks or the supermarket or the mall, I'd use them in a park or in the street near my house. If I had kids, they'd only be allowed to use them in a park or in my driveway.

Why? OMG I love when little 2 year old runs away from his mother and falls down and gets brushburns.

My DS was "showing off" with his heelys in the driveway last night and fell down. It wasn't very funny. It happens - it would happen with a skateboard, bike, whatever, but it's not funny.

Actually, his big brother laughed and he got grounded.

There's a difference between a little child falling down as little children do and I would never laugh at something like that. When a bigger child or teen takes a spill doing something asinine like riding heelys in a crowded, public place, like WDW or a grocery store, then that's a different story. I actually laugh to myself or shake my head in disbelief at the stupidity and arrogance of the child's parent, to allow the situation to reach that level. How hard is it to say no when your child wants to bring heely's to WDW or the store and use them? They're dangerous to the kid using them and even more dangerous to the unsuspecting person who gets run into.

I truly believe that one of the reasons why life isn't as pleasant as it could be, is because people only worry about themselves and don't care for others or the environment around them. I know other people around me at WDW have spent a lot of money and time to be there, just like me. I try to respect other people's rights and feelings that are around me, because I want to be treated the same way in return. You get back what you give out to others, especially on vacation. I'll make sure my kid isn't the one that ends up hurting your vacation because he slammed into you or family while illegally using his heely's at WDW. Which, BTW, shouldn't be there in the first place. I would hope you would do the same.

See, now this is what really ticks me off. Total lack of respect for someone with authority just trying to do his/her job. :sad2:

We were just at our local Target last night and there was a very heated arguement between a customer and her 3 kids, all of whom had on heelys, and the manager and security. Apparently this family has previously been told that the kids could not use the wheels while in the store. The mom argued that her kids could wear whatever shoes her kids wanted to. The manager agreed that while the kids could wear whatever shoe they wanted to, as soon as they engaged the wheel, the stopped being just a shoe and feel into the same catagory as skateboard, roller skates, and roller blades, which are not allowed inside of the store.

The mother countered with those items aren't ment to be used indoors - last time I looked roller skates were ment to be used inside at a roller rink - and that heelys are made to be used indoors. God love the manager, he walked over to Target had some, and by god if on the box it didn't say FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY. The mother kept trying to argue. Finally the manager told the mom that they would need to leave the store. She got all worked up, that she needed to finish getting what she came in for. The manager told her that they could either leave NOW without purchasing anything or the cops would be called. Her reply was it would just be their word against hers. There were 4 other people who then stepped up and offerend to wait and give their statements to the officers who showed up. What came out of her mouth after these offers were made, can not be typed on this board. The left, but not queitly and the kids got just as mouthy as the mom did.

And to the poster who asked why parents would allow their kids to wear this things in stores - because it's all about them....their family. They are all important. By god, it is their right to do what they want, when and where they want.

That is one of the many reasons why society and life in general is in the condition it is today. It's all about them and theirs and "let the rest eat cake" mentality. It's sad that people can't or don't think about how their rude actions effect others around them. I bet that scene that woman caused at Target was real nice and pleasant for the other customers who had misfortune to witness it.:sad2:

:cheer2: Three cheers for that Target manager!!:cheer2: :cheer2:
