heater died today.Has anyone used sears to get a new one?

My ac/heater broke today(merry christmas). Luckly I am in Florida and we are going into a warmfront, but I still need it replaced. I am scared of getting ripped off but was thinking of sears since they have ano interest/no payment thing until 2007. Any opinions?

My friend bought a kenmore brand fridge and when the compressor went out she had tons of problems with the warranty and getting it fixed. Because it was a sears brand she had to use sears repairmen and they couldn't even get out to her house for 2 weeks, then it was going to be at least another week to order the part. The fridge was only 1 and 1/2 years old. She called another repair shop and they could have it fixed that day but then it would not be under warrenty and would have cost a few hundred dollars. Sears really put her in a bind, she ended up being without a fridge for 2 and 1/2 weeks, and that was with her calling a million times and talking to alot of supervisors. Just my two cents but I would never buy an appliance from Sears.

Most heating and air places will come out and give you a free quote. I would be careful with Sears. Many years ago, we decided to get siding put on the house we were living in. The quote from Sears was almost triple that of every other company's quote. Get some quotes first.

I had big problems with them when they installed my central air.

We had a water heater from them that broke while under warranty. They came out and fixed it but still charged us a $75 service charge, whatever. Check with your local gas company. I know our gas companies install new furnaces and other gas appliances. We put one in an old house of ours and we got a discount on our heating bill, they serviced it free for something like 5 years and no charges to come out if anything went wrong (we never had a problem with it).
