Awful heat!:headache:
Love the autograph book:thumbsup2 I am working on one foe DD9 for our trip;hope it turns out half as good as yours!:thumbsup2

Hahaha, you know it's a bad sign when the little has a grumpy face early in the morning. :lmao: Look out!
Yeah, it did NOT bode well! :rotfl2:

ToT is a good choice for first thing in the morning. And having a brave one is always good.
We do love ToT - it was sad not to be able to go on it again and again like we did on our last trip

We bring the misting fans for the kids too, but you are so right! They end up being more of a deterrent because they mess with them so much! :lmao:
It's so true! It seemed like such a great idea, but then I felt like I was constantly asking her to stop messing with it and move along. :confused3

Thanks! I bet yours will turn out great! It really is a lot of fun to have something different like that. :thumbsup2

A Culinary Respite from the Heat

Having just experienced probably the worst moment of our trip, we were really lucky to be facing a cool, quiet, and delicious experience at the Hollywood Brown Derby. After our most unpleasant and over-heated time-out, DD and I headed over to the HBD, which luckily was right near where we had our little break-down.

The AC quickly restored DD to a good mood.

Thankfully, we really did manage to have a very nice lunch together. What a relief after the meltdown-filled morning. (As usual, if you would like more detail on the food and dining experience, I am trying very hard to keep a DR going simultaneously with this TR, and it is linked in my signature.)

This is a beautiful restaurant:

For her appetizer, DD ordered the celery and carrots with ranch, but she told our WONDERFUL server that she didn’t like celery or ranch (seriously, is she the only kid in the world who won’t eat ranch dressing???). She did tell our server that she likes carrots with ketchup. :scared: (To be fair, DD only said this because her BFF actually does like this - I am happy to report that DD does NOT eat carrots and ketchup.) Our server thought it was pretty funny, however, and quickly obliged DD:

I had the andouille-crusted prawn over grits, and this was lovely!

For her entree, DD ordered the hotdog, and she HATED it. I honestly think there was something wrong with it, because although DD has become pretty picky lately, this was different. She was obviously hungry, she likes hotdogs, but she was insistent that she couldn’t eat it. Our lovely server happily brought her the grilled cheese (with Cheddar - this family does not do American “cheese” - cracks me up because DD likes so many things that I don’t and vice versa, but the first time she tasted American cheese - in a grilled cheese in a restaurant - the child acted like they had served a plate of dirt. My child for sure at that moment!), and she ate up every bite of it. So I know that hotdog must have been BAD.

I ordered the duck - which was confit and a duck breast. It was good, but I am not a huge duck diner. ;) I wasn’t very hungry at this point so decided to try something that I wouldn’t normally order just to see how it tasted here.

For her dessert, DD ordered the Hidden Treasures thing, which is basically gummy worms, ice cream and a cookie. She was happy.

When the chef visited our table about my dietary restrictions, he had mentioned that he had a sorbet that was not on the menu, and I went with that because I wanted something light. I think it was cantaloupe. And I definitely do remember that it hit the spot - light, refreshing, flavorful.

We have had lunch at HBD every trip, and we will continue to do so, I think. DHS is a great park, but all that concrete and the HEAT make it challenging. Being able to duck into a cool, “fancy,” relaxing restaurant midday is such a treat!

DD apparently took quite a few pictures while we dined at HBD! Our wonderful server:

The very accommodating chef:

DD’s perspective on HBD:

And then the memory card was overrun with selfies. Just a very minimal sampling of what I found:

(Wait - did you catch that?)

Wait - hold up! Was that Baby Goofy’s booty???

Apparently, DD got her own perspective on the yummy grilled cheese:

Baby goofy's booty?!? :rotfl2: so funny!! I love her selfies--they look just like the pictures I find on my phone after my 6 year old has it. They crack me up!

Willow did a pretty good job snapping a food photo of her grilled cheese!

Whew! All Caught up!
Albeit I will totally admit I dont remember how I found your trip report BUT I am so happy I did!! Willow is adorable!
Fantastic TR!

Hey there, just stumbled on to your trip report and couldnt stop reading!! The pics are so cute and the descriptions are hilarious!! :thumbsup2 I cant wait to see how the rest of the trip turns out! :goodvibes

Wait! Now Baby Goofy's doing selfies??? :rotfl:

Glad to hear that HBD was a game changer. Sometimes a cool break with a little food can do wonders for the attitude, I know it has for us on several occasions. It melt-downs are not fun for adults nor kids!

Now,my kids might eat ketchup with carrots...they've never tried it (that I know of) but eat ketshup with just about anything.

How funny about Willow and the cheese. I asked my youngest if she wanted grilled cheese the other day and she said "no, I don't like the flat cheese". It took me a couple of minutes to figure out that she meant American cheese, we fix everything with cheddar as well. I can't say as I blame them...I'm not a big American cheese fan either so there must be some genetics tied to it!

Yay that things are happy again! I'm with you on American cheese. I don't think they should call stuff cheese. I like HBD too. My favorite thing there is the Grapefruit cake, but that probably isn't something you should eat. Might be a little gluten in there.;) Can't wait for more.

:rotfl2::rotfl2: what a DELIGHT Willow is ! One day we will meet and I have to get a photo lesson from her I just can't seem to get the " selfies" thing but oh the Goofy selfie & booty shot :rotfl:

I tell you in all seriousness, what a pleasant change to " meet " someone who doesn't sugar coat things Bad family moment, melt downs, etc you admit it in a report :thumbsup2 so real just like the rest of us
I may be 53 years older than her but get me to the characters and I " un-grumpy " too It's all about the characters :goodvibes

I've got some catching up to do!

The character meet and greets look great, even if you don't have the photopass pictures (what a shame though!). And I love getting to see the autograph book pages! You did an amazing job!!

I love the parks late at night for the fireworks and the low crowd levels. Unfortunately I am sure it is not easy to do late nights with a child! But when she's older I bet she'll love staying up late at WDW!

Oh no, grumpy days at WDW are no fun! I'm intrigued that Willow's favorite park is DHS - and that her favorite ride is ToT! I was definitely not brave enough to ride it at that age! And it's debatable whether I'm still brave enough to ride it...

Food and air conditioning is the perfect way to feel better! For what it's worth, I absolutely hated ranch as a kid - and I still hate it today! I will not go near it lol!

I'm so pleased Willow perked up, we all need some air con and rest at WDW :)

I'm loving Willow's photos, so cute :lmao:

Glad moods improved:cool1: AC and food will do it every time:goodvibes
So true!! But will they sustain that improved mood after we reemerge into the flaming heat???? ;)

Willow's selfies are just cracking me up!
 She certainly enjoys herself, doesn't she??

Baby goofy's booty?!? :rotfl2: so funny!! I love her selfies--they look just like the pictures I find on my phone after my 6 year old has it. They crack me up!
:rotfl2: These kids are so funny, aren't they???

Willow did a pretty good job snapping a food photo of her grilled cheese!
She has ALWAYS loved to take pics of food. :confused3

Whew! All Caught up!
Albeit I will totally admit I dont remember how I found your trip report BUT I am so happy I did!! Willow is adorable!

Thanks! However you found it, I'm glad you did! :thumbsup2

So glad you're here - thanks for reading along! :woohoo:

Wait! Now Baby Goofy's doing selfies??? :rotfl:
Right??? I about choked with laughter when I saw that!

Glad to hear that HBD was a game changer. Sometimes a cool break with a little food can do wonders for the attitude, I know it has for us on several occasions. It melt-downs are not fun for adults nor kids!
HBD definitely improved our moods - at least while we were in there........

Now,my kids might eat ketchup with carrots...they've never tried it (that I know of) but eat ketshup with just about anything.
That's so funny! I think I'm extra-grossed out by DD's plate because I personally hate ketchup!

How funny about Willow and the cheese. I asked my youngest if she wanted grilled cheese the other day and she said "no, I don't like the flat cheese". "Flat cheese" - I LOVE that!!! :rotfl2: Willow will eat parmesan, feta, etc., but she will not touch American. I am the same way - that stuff grosses me out!

Yay that things are happy again! I'm with you on American cheese. I don't think they should call stuff cheese. I like HBD too. My favorite thing there is the Grapefruit cake, but that probably isn't something you should eat. Might be a little gluten in there.;) Can't wait for more.
They really shouldn't be allowed to call it "cheese"!

Oh, I wish I could have the grapefruit cake! :cloud9:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: what a DELIGHT Willow is ! One day we will meet and I have to get a photo lesson from her I just can't seem to get the " selfies" thing but oh the Goofy selfie & booty shot :rotfl:
:rotfl2: I'm sure she would love to give you some tips. ;)

I tell you in all seriousness, what a pleasant change to " meet " someone who doesn't sugar coat things Bad family moment, melt downs, etc you admit it in a report :thumbsup2 so real just like the rest of us
Oh, thanks for that! I struggle with it because I know people will judge, but it's reality. Not every moment of eery day is perfect, you know? :confused3 And I always figure if we are all honest about that, we won't all be walking around with complexes that we are the only non-perfect family, you know?

I may be 53 years older than her but get me to the characters and I " un-grumpy " too It's all about the characters :goodvibes
:rotfl2: You are so right! Both of us are always in a better mood after a character meet. :thumbsup2

I've got some catching up to do!
No worries! It's hard to keep up with everyone, isn't it? :scared:

The character meet and greets look great, even if you don't have the photopass pictures (what a shame though!). And I love getting to see the autograph book pages! You did an amazing job!!
Oh, thanks so much! We sure did have a lot of fun with the characters are our personalized pages. :thumbsup2

I love the parks late at night for the fireworks and the low crowd levels. Unfortunately I am sure it is not easy to do late nights with a child! But when she's older I bet she'll love staying up late at WDW!
We have enjoyed the parks at night a few times, but it certainly isn't something that we can do a LOT yet. That's one of my favorite things about the Disney parks - as children get older, there are always new things to experience together. I hope we will make these trips together throughout DD's lives.

Oh no, grumpy days at WDW are no fun! I'm intrigued that Willow's favorite park is DHS - and that her favorite ride is ToT! I was definitely not brave enough to ride it at that age! And it's debatable whether I'm still brave enough to ride it...
 Well, I can't guarantee it was her favorite park by the end of this trip. ;) But it is definitely one of her favorites - and ToT will likely always be a favorite for her. It's practically an obsession for her to ride as many times as possible.

Food and air conditioning is the perfect way to feel better! For what it's worth, I absolutely hated ranch as a kid - and I still hate it today! I will not go near it lol!
That's so funny! Actually, now that you mention it, I hated ALL dressings as a kid, so maybe it's not as odd as I thought. I just always hear of parents giving kids ranch to get them to eat veggies. :confused3

I'm so pleased Willow perked up, we all need some air con and rest at WDW :)
So true! We were both feeling a lot happier while sitting at HBD. :thumbsup2

I'm loving Willow's photos, so cute :lmao:
The child can't pass up a mirror or a camera! :rotfl2:

Something We’d Never Done Before

So we were feeling pretty good during our air-conditioned, crowd-free lunch and made a plan to head over to the Hat afterwards and get an autograph or two before heading back to the BWI to rest for a bit. However, as soon as we stepped outside HBD, DD lost her good mood, and we decided to just head out of the park for the day. It was about 2:00.

On our way out, however, some streetmosphere players emerged and began a skit. We actually stopped to watch the entire thing, and it was so funny and such a fun experience. Willow especially loved it and wanted to stay until it was over. (This summer she was in her first play, and she is all about drama anyway as you may have noticed.) This is something we probably never would have stopped to enjoy had the park not been hot and crowded - we would have been too busy rushing off to other things. So this was a wonderful end to what had been kind of a FAIL park experience. :thumbsup2

When the skit was over, about 2:20, we headed out of DHS. The MU topiaries out front were so cute!

There was a boat waiting for us, and DD was happy to be on board and headed back to the resort.

This really is such a nice way to travel! :cloud9:

We stopped at the Swan/Dolphin, the YC/BC, and then BWI.

We were off the boat and headed into our hotel by about 2:45. Pretty good. We loved the short walk from the boat dock up to this “secret” door and then just up the stairs to the elevators and up to our room. Pretty nice! Here, let me show you:

Love the carpet at the BW too!

Back at the room, DD got cleaned up and into some jammies. She proceeded to watch Stacey again - she was OBSESSED with Stacey this trip (quoting her all over the parks nonstop :rotfl2:). And by about 3:30, she was out cold.

I took some pictures of our view and the decor in our room before settling down with a book while DD slept.

I thought this was so cute:

All the art work in the room was very BW-y.

And, of course, those Disney details:

It appears that the only pics that Willow took during this period of time were … you guessed it - SELFIES!

You are seriously killing me. I can't remember the last time I didn't read an update on my phone in bed. Phone replies are terrible. I like the smileys too much.

I will get caught up on my commenting, but for now I'm loving Willows selfies, am so glad that you had a great CRT lunch (I think it's been that long), and am so sorry you had a bummer of a DHS day.

And, AP is officially on the list for our spring trip! I'm sure we'll discuss that at length later though ;)

2PM to go back to the hotel isn't bad. Thats a full day in the park in the August heat. It seems like a few selfies can turn the mood around. :rotfl2:And lucky for you, you got in some reading time.

I read your Alaska TR yesterday and I was laughing out loud. Mostly because there were some spots that sound SOOO much like trips that we have been on. Trying to make sure everyone is having a good time is exhausting! I had to laugh when you were describing the boxed wine in your carry-on. We are going on a car trip in a couple of weeks and that is on my packing list - box of wine! Boxed wine has come so far (especially since the boxed wine of my college days) in the last few years and travels so well. :rotfl:

I hope you got in some reading during this trip. I have about three books in various stages of progress tucked different places (the bedroom, the car, the living room) on the hopes that someone might allow me enough time to finish a paragraph uninterrupted. Most of the time I end of starting the book over!

Sorry! :rotfl2: You know I'm going to forget that we even did the cruise if I don't get this thing moving along! I can't stand having it hanging over my head either - too much pressure! :rotfl2:

SWEET! I can't wait to chat about it and all the other ADRs obsessively for months on end!!!! :rotfl2:

You know, you're right - I didn't really realize how long we were there until I was looking at the times on the pictures. We were there quite a while, and accomplished almost nothing! :rotfl2: I got a LOT of reading in on this trip - it was AWESOME! :woohoo:

Oh, thanks for reading! That was such a fun trip! :rotfl2: I remember the old, what was it called, Franzia or something? Holy cow - that stuff was vile! They really do have some good ones now, and they are ideal for packing in a cruise carryon. :thumbsup2 Don't think for a second that I didn't order a box from Garden Grocer to take on this August's cruise. ;)

Yeah, I don't even try to read except when traveling anymore. :confused3 But I got to read SO MANY books on this trip - it was phenomenal! I read on the plane, I read in the room when Willow napped and at night, and the cruise - lots of reading time! :woohoo:
