Heat, Humidity, and Our Favorite Disney Dog Was a Thug! LINK TO NEW PTR!!

Wow Willow is so brave riding ToT, my 15 year old DD still won't go on it the wimp :rotfl2:

I love the photos with Daisy, we always seem to miss her!

That is so impressive that Willow loves Tower of Terror. Brave girl! I hear you about that August heat. We had more than one moment this last trip brought on by the heat. I remember one time in DHS I just said to my kids, "I don't care about these fastpasses. We just need to cut and run before everyone loses it." Then we left the park. So I feel for you.

I know grumpy faces like that in the morning. They are NO fun! :crazy2:
 Yeah, it was a good harbinger of things to come at DHS. :rolleyes1

Holy cow that is a mob scene to get into HS.
My thoughts exactly! For two girls who had never been at any time other than October, it was pretty horrifying. :crazy2:

How funny that ToT is her favorite ride! Brave girl. :thumbsup2
Oh yeah - she LOVES that ride. The preceding trip, we had ridden it more times than I can count - okay, more times than I can remember; if I went back to that TR, I would probably have the count. The big question though is did it REMAIN her favorite ride after this trip???? :confused3

Oh I hate those days when they start crabby! Makes everything harder! I get a kick out of how much your DD loves ToT!
It definitely wasn't the best start to the day - but I know it was my fault for capitulating to doing "one more ride" and such the night before. :confused3

The child LOVES that ride. SO MUCH! When she was tall enough for it on our last trip when she was 4, I had told her about it (because I kind of wanted to try it for the first time myself), and she insisted that it would be her favorite. I was all, "um, oh dear....." So I kind of tried to talk her out of it for fear that she would be terrified. But I couldn't scare her  - and she was right, she LOVED it. So much so that we rode it more times than I could baer during that trip :rotfl2:

I don't get the TSM rush either, we like the ride and all but I don't get the mad dash!
It must be that DHS doesn't have much else for families with small children or something. I really don't get it - which I do know is sacrilege on this board. :rolleyes1 We are West Coast people - the Disneyland approach is more in tune with how we feel about it: fun ride, not worth a long wait. :confused3

I hope your day got better, but from what you said I am afraid it didn't!
Don't despair  - it eventually did, we just had to GET OUT OF THERE! :rotfl2:

Wow Willow is so brave riding ToT, my 15 year old DD still won't go on it the wimp :rotfl2:
:rotfl2: It always cracks me up in line for ToT because there are always families who remark on DD's obvious enthusiasm for the ride, and inevitably someone's teenager is waiting outside not wanting to ride it. The child just LOVES it! :confused3

I love the photos with Daisy, we always seem to miss her!
Love Daisy! Between the cruise and WDW, we were lucky to meet her quite a few times this trip. :thumbsup2

Oh, you have summed it up perfectly! Most days, we just reached a point where we HAD TO GET OUT OF THERE!!!! :scared1: That heat! BRUTAL!

The Studios are rough in the heat. We didn't have our best day there.
:thumbsup2 Just read and commented on your DHS day. That concrete-filled park is especially tought with that insane heat. :crazy2:

I take my hat off to you for being up and out of the room by 7.45! :worship:

The Donald and Daisy pics are just too cute, but the "mob" waiting at the turnstiles is not. :lmao:

Your daughter is one brave girl to ride ToT! We love that ride too but have seen too many kids of all ages drop out when they get to the "chicken exit". :lmao:

Oh, and I do NOT blame your daughter for not being in the right mood. The heat got to all of us. ;)

Yeah - we are insane! We really should have slowed down.

I loved how cute Hollywood Donald and Daisy were. But the mob scene was DREADFUL! :scared:

She was finally tall enough at age 4, and decided before the trip that it would be her favorite ride. She was right - we rode that thing SO many times that trip. :rotfl2: We always have really funny conversations in line with people who can't believe her enthusiasm for it - and most of them have teens who are waiting outside.

Oh, and I do NOT blame your daughter for not being in the right mood. The heat got to all of us. ;)
Wasn't it awful???? I have to admit that I was not in the best mood a lot of the time either - it was just GROSS. :scared:

Some Overheated Character Meets

After the ToT disappointment, we both eventually managed to get ourselves together and made the decision to go see what characters were out over by the hat. When we arrived, Chip ‘n’ Dale were out sporting their bowler hats - we were pretty excited to get in line to meet them. Shortly after we got in line, though, Chip ‘n’ Dale departed. they were very quickly replaced by Hollywood Goofy who was looking very dapper. Since Willow was all about Goofy on this trip, this worked out quite well for her. And she had a great meet with him.

And Goofy’s autograph page:

Our TSMM FP window was getting closer, so we decided to head in that direction with the goal of picking up a misting fan for DD on the way. The poor child was just ROASTING, so I figured we would get one of these things and see if it would help. It was kind of a blessing and a curse - it helped a little with the heat, but then DD wanted to mess around with it constantly and therefore started moving even more slowly.

Today was the first day that Princess Sophia was engaging in meet-and-greets at DHS. We saw that she was out and decided to get in line. Unfortunately, although our experience with character lines is that they usually move very quickly, this line was not moving AT ALL. There was no way that we were going to make it through this line and manage to do TSMM with our FPs. So we jumped out of that line and into the much shorter line for Jake! This line moved very quickly, and DD was happy to meet Jake whom she had never met before.

And Jake’s page:

We went directly over to TSMM then and were so happy to find ourselves inside in the AC!

We enjoyed looking at the details and just soaking up the cool air.

We had a really fun ride, and after that, I suggested that we go over and get FPs for ToT to use after lunch, thinking that would make DD beyond happy. Much to my surprise, instead, DD went from happy to snotty before I could blink, informing me that she didn’t WANT FastPasses, blah, blah, blah. I believe that this tirade was precipitated by me asking her to turn off the fan for a few minutes and walk fast enough so that the people behind us wouldn’t be tripping over her. Sadly, this fiasco culminated in a loooooong time-out together on a bench. This was definitely a major low point of the trip. Here we were in DD’s favorite park, and we had just been bickering and miserable all morning. I was fighting not to just break down in tears at this point. We were both hotter than hotter than hotter than hot and tired and just not having the magical time I had hoped we would.

Hi Jill!!! I'm so happy to have you joining in! :cool1:

Oh, lord, it was SO HOT! Both of us were just grumpy as all get out. *sigh* I hope we made the most of it, but I think I could have done a lot better. Next time, I guess.... We made up for it on the cruise. :thumbsup2

Hi Ruthie! Definitely some great character meets DD had. I'm so glad that we learned to make the time for these after our first trip. Meeting and getting to know the characters has become a huge part of our trips. :thumbsup2

Willow definitely got some surprisingly good pics on this trip. I couldn't believe a few of them when I was uploading. Of course, the other 90% were selfies, so..... :rotfl2:

No worries at all! I'm so glad to see you again. Please tell me I didn't totally miss your report! I try to catch people's TRs in their signatures. I will totally be checking yours out but I'm going to feel bad if it has been going on for a long time and I didn't notice! :scared1:

Oh, thanks so much - I really lost my mind making those autograph pages. I can't imagine ever managing to do that again!

AP was wonderful. REALLY wonderful. And both DD and I fell in love with the WL - it is high on both of our lists for future resort stays. :thumbsup2

It is going to take me a while to catch up - I have this OCD need to read from the beginning to the end - but I am there now! Thanks for sharing!!!!

You know that summer FL heat can be so brutal! I felt like that a couple of times during our trip also. It cracks me up how she perks up to meet the characters, that is exactly how Charlotte was too.
Too bad you couldn't meet Sofia, I was hoping we could see her to we were just a few weeks too early.
I am looking forward to the rest of your day!

More great pictures!

And again, with the heat the way it was we ALL were grumpy and dragging our feet.
You two were truly brave, as when Tom and I returned we spent the first half of the day in the pool, then hid in the room and only got to the parks in the afternoon. :rotfl2:

Hi there, Roni! :wave2:

So, it's been WEEKS since I've perused the DisBoards. Naturally I'm WAY behind but managed to get caught up after an hour :laughing:Thought I would read half today and half tomorrow, but because your pictures were too adorable, I couldn't stop.

And yes....this heat down South can be quite miserable. There's no getting use to it. At least you had the pools to keep you cool.

Sorry to hear Yachtsman's Steakhouse was just ok. The first time we dined there it was fabulous...the second time, the waiter was less than adequate. Your creme brulee did look outstanding though!!! (my favorite!!!)

Very glad to hear you liked Artist Pointe - it's on our list for June. We've been wanting to try it for years. And you're right about the atmosphere at the WL; it's great! -very homey and comfortable. I think the rooms have been given a soft refurb; the bedding is white now and looks a little more crisp and clean. At least I think... :scratchin

As always, the pictures of Willow are precious - even the ones at BBB with the less than desirable photographer

Looking forward to reading lots more!!!

Have a good weekend!
Heather

Funny, isn't it? She couldn't STAND me, but give her a character, and she's Miss Happy! :rotfl2:

Too bad you couldn't meet Sofia, I was hoping we could see her to we were just a few weeks too early.
Yeah, it was a shame, but that line was not budging. At All! :confused3 We had never met Jake before though, so that was a good substitute. :thumbsup2

I am looking forward to the rest of your day!
Thanks! I plan to get another update going here pretty soon!

More great pictures!
Thanks!!!

You are SO right. Who knew that the Caribbean would be so much more pleasant than Florida???? :confused3

Your approach was probably the more intelligent one! :thumbsup2

Hi there, Roni! :wave2:
Hi Heather!!! It's great to see you!

It's so hard to get caught up when you step away, isn't it???

Aw - thanks! I have WAY too many pics - I swear I'm only posting a tiny percentage of them.

And yes....this heat down South can be quite miserable. There's no getting use to it. At least you had the pools to keep you cool.
If only we had taken better advantage of said pools. I have learned my lesson - next time, we will have built-in resort days. For sure!

Sorry to hear Yachtsman's Steakhouse was just ok. The first time we dined there it was fabulous...the second time, the waiter was less than adequate. Your creme brulee did look outstanding though!!! (my favorite!!!)
Service can really make or break a meal sometimes, can't it? The food was absolutely delicious, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths.

Oh, I hope you do! We really loved AP - probably our best signature meal of the trip. :thumbsup2 I think that's right about the rooms - I have seen some pics lately that look really nice. I am seriously thinking we would like to stay there - Willow loved it.

As always, the pictures of Willow are precious - even the ones at BBB with the less than desirable photographer
Thanks! PP was really disappointing this trip. :confused3

Looking forward to reading lots more!!!
More soon! I need to get moving on this - I still have an entire cruise to report, and I'm only on our second full WDW day! :scared1: (I'm hoping to get DLR APs for Christmas for us, and make several DLR trips, so I will have to do reports on those too!)

Have a good weekend!
Thanks Heather! You too!

Hahaha, you know it's a bad sign when the little has a grumpy face early in the morning. :lmao: Look out!

ToT is a good choice for first thing in the morning. And having a brave one is always good.

We bring the misting fans for the kids too, but you are so right! They end up being more of a deterrent because they mess with them so much! :lmao:
