This morning I atttended a "kick-off" campaign at my daughter's grade school. I received a call from the principal who invited me to be a guest at this event, since the campaign was for Care packages and mail for our troops.

This is the same Catholic grade school that 6 of my children have graduated from (including Bobby). Kelli (5th grade) is now my last one left there.

When I arrived, I was introduced to a very attractive lady - well dressed, soft spoken, etc. As the program proceeded, she stepped to the podium to speak and I discovered that she was a Gulf War veteran. As she spoke, she became very emotional - telling the children that "anything patriotic always brought her to tears." She told them how important letters are and during the time of the Gulf War, letters could be addressed to "any soldier". She then picked up a small stack of letters and told us that these were some of the letters she received from total strangers and how she had kept them for 12 years, and she would keep them all of her life.

I know how many of you here have adopted soldiers, and I just had to share this story with you. :D

Oh my goodness...that brought on the tears. What a sweet, wonderful woman. Bless her for speaking to those children today. What an impression she must have made on them! :D

I'm glad you were able to participate, too. I'm sure it did your heart good to see their smiling faces...those little faces are part of the reason your Bobby is doing what he does. Imagine when little Iraqi children can sit in nice classrooms in clean, safe schools and learn in freedom. ;)

Actually, I was looking at all those little faces and remembering when Bobby was a little boy at that school.:(

Where did the time go.......

Well...I'm all puddled up now. What a touching story. It's amazing how important a little thing like a note or card can be to our military personnel.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

That is a really touching story. Thank you for sharing it with us :)

Patty, What a sweet story. I think it is wonderful that the children that attend the same school Bobby did are now sending him letters and packages.
