Heartburn triggers?

I don't get it often, but when I do, it's usually one of these two things:

Chocolate, even one little square. I typically eat dark chocolate, so I don't know if it's just this variety or if any chocolate would cause it.
Tea

And only in the evening, it's no problems the rest of the day.

Citric or acidic things (tomatoes, oranges, vinegar, ketchup, pineapple, etc.)
Oatmeal
Chocolate
Caffeine

If you reduce your consumption of these items and still suffer from heartburn 2 or more times per week, you need to check with your doctor.

Please don't let persistant heartburn go untreated. It can turn into a nasty affliction known as Barrett's Esophagus which is a pre cancerous condition. There are meds out there that can help you. Even if you think it is nothing to worry about right now, damage is being caused. Talk to your doctor:) For me, orange juice and tomato sauce are HUGE triggers

Agree. I take Nexium daily and have had an endoscopy plus a colonoscopy but that is a different topic.;)

Oh and PINEAPPLE is my latest one to hit me hard!!! grrrr....

I also just simply can't eat anything after about 7 in the evening, or my reflux attacks me in the middle of the night.

Same here. I cant eat after 7pm either. It KILLS me and I cant sleep all night long. If I eat one tiny cracker before bed, it will bother me at night. No joke! My triggers are chocolate, and heavy greasy food. Before bed, anything can trigger my heartburn if i eat it too close to bed time. It KILLS me!

I"ll echo what others have said, if it's persistent get it checked.

I have a hiatial hernia and GERD because of it. I take a high dose of Prilosec. So nothing triggers, unless I forget my meds, then everything does it.

My main issue now is my esophogus will spasm. That's triggered by eating something warm and taking a cold drink too quickly. Sounds like a giant hic-up. 5 minutes of slow breathing is all that will make it relax.

When I was pregnant, ice cream was my downfall. I really craved it at night, but it also gave me terrible heartburn.

pregnancy.

I don't generally suffer from heartburn, thankfully, but when I was pregnant with my first I did and it was awful...and got progressively worse as the months went on.

I knew I was pregnant the second time because I suddenly had heartburn. I hadn't even missed my period and I knew.

Hydrogenated Oils/Partially Hydrogenated Oils

Chocolate

Fried Foods (usually because fryer oil is usually made up of a mixture of oils including Hydrogenated ones)

Apple Cider

Just about anything Fatty

I'm on meds now to help with reflux so rarely if ever get a true case of heartburn anymore but sometimes the things above will still get me.
