I'm dealing with heartburn! Yea!!

It's really not so bad, but it's been bothering me all day off and on. Along with feeling bloated. Trying to figure out what triggered it. What are your heartburn triggers?

Many thanks!

Tomato sauce (spaghetti, lasagna, pizza etc.) particularly when combined with a dessert of Chocolate and or milk.

Onion rings or sauted onions. Raw onions are fine!

I have been on Atkins for 6 weeks and have not had any heartburn since the beginning.

This is going to sound ridiculous since I'm 42 years old, but Pop-Tarts and Toaster Struedels. I love both of those on occasion, but they are so horrible about inducing heartburn that I don't eat them anymore. It's actually probably a good thing since they are pretty much awful for you. I stick with the Special K Pastry Crisps when I need a fix these days.

I also just simply can't eat anything after about 7 in the evening, or my reflux attacks me in the middle of the night.

Oh - and Coca Cola. I don't know what it is about it in particular. Maybe it is more acidic than other colas. Luckily I don't drink a lot of sodas anyway, and I like root beer and Pepsi better anyway.

Sometimes tomato sauce bothers me but other times it doesn't. I very rarely suffer from heartburn. If I eat too much or too much fat in a meal that can bother me.

Read "The Plan" by Lyn Genet Recitas. You'd be surprised what foods can do a number on you.

Oh, and Orange Juice. That seems to bother me most.

It's really annoying, I almost never have heartburn, now I've had it this week and last. I haven't made any big dietary changes, and I haven't been having it every day either. I also eat just about the same things every day. Oatmeal with blueberries for bfast. Banana for a snack. Pbj, Greek yogurt, applesauce for lunch. No dinner cause it still hurts. Waahhh! Antacids are helping but not much. Just venting. Hope I can figure out what's causing it.

Constipation
Stress
wine
chocolate
ice cream
lemon lime soda
cookies
graham crackers
cinnamon
herbs
drink mixers
orange juice
tangy sauces
soda

I went through a time between the ages of about 45-49 where I had bad indigestion/bloating at least once per week. I'm pretty positive that it was related to hormones and menopause. I haven't had an incident in 3 years. There didn't seem to be any one trigger, but I could always feel it coming on and I couldn't lay down and sleep during it and they usually happened in the evening/night. It hurt more to lay down until usually around 2-3am. It would then gradually get better and go away. I would drink a ginger ale or hot tea. Both would make me burp and help a lot.

Anything sweet or greasy, or fried. Orange juice is a killer too, and so are fruits. Most shellfish as well. I know, almost everything. :lmao:

ETA: I forgot about A1 Steak Sauce. That one is HORRIBLE.

Pizza
Barbecue sandwich with cole slaw and Texas Pete hot sauce

But I love them both and usually have each once a week. I keep a bottle of Tums handy for when I do.

Please don't let persistant heartburn go untreated. It can turn into a nasty affliction known as Barrett's Esophagus which is a pre cancerous condition. There are meds out there that can help you. Even if you think it is nothing to worry about right now, damage is being caused. Talk to your doctor:) For me, orange juice and tomato sauce are HUGE triggers

Heartburn can also be a sign of hiatal hernia. My mom and my sister have it and my grandmother did too. My mom has GERD and has to take medication every day. My sister has issue with OJ. When she was pregnant she couldn't drink it at all.

Oh wow this post came at really coincidental timing...I was having heartburn all day too, and I usually don't get it . I think I know what set it off for me...eating right before bed. Usually if I eat yogurt or fruit before bed I'm okay, but I think having leftover Italian food (which was quite oily) was a bad idea. On top of that, I was being kind off careless and eating tater tots at work and drinking soda pop haha. popcorn:: .

I have noticed that eating rich or spicy food before bed usually gives me heartburn throughout the next day. Recipe for trouble! :stir:

Hope you feel better!
