Just wanted some dis advice. I have been having heart palpatitions allday. To the point where I feel like I can't catch my breath. I've also been dizzy and nauseous also. I have a history of throwing pvc's but I've never been able to feel them. Should I go to the ER or just wait it out? I'm not stressed by them, but I am annoyed with them and I want to feel better! Thank you in advance!

call your doctor.
if you get the answering service, have them relay the message to him/her.

I just called, probably as you were typing. I must need a new doctor. They said if you are worried go to the ER or we can get you in Monday. Humph.

My doctor says heart palpitations are common. It can give you the feeling of being excited, make you feel like you can't catch your breath. I feel mine at night. It feels like its skipping a beat or back beating. Could you be pregnant? I've never had the palpitations make me nauseous. They could also be unrelated.

I have heart palpataions...and PVCs...I have a lot of episodes of multiple PVCs.

I also have a history of feeling dizzy, turning pale when standing too long, low blood pressure etc. In normal situations, palpatations and occassional PVCs are not dangerous and are pretty common. Especially when someone is sick.

Alos, they are very common when dehydrated. Combined with you nasuea and dizziness, are you sure your not dehydrated? When I was dehydrated when I had the stomach virus, I was throwing out PVCs in the ER like no other. My cardiologist was pretty impressed...lol...especially since I was just studying through it all.

But I have been having more frequent and more severe palp., PVCs, and chest pain so my cardio. just did a 7 day heart monitor to check eveyrthing out and just be sure.

I've never gone to the ER just because of Palpatations or PVCs. But my doctor returns my messages 99% of the time I call her (same day) so I usually dont have a reason to.

Its really up to you and how bad you think they really are.

New onset of heart palpitations with dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath should be seen in the ER tonight. It may be nothing or it may be something serious. It is impossible to tell what's going on without an EKG, at the very least. I'd rather see you spend some money finding out everything is okay than read about how everything went wrong because you waited. Just my nursing opinion...

totally agree, but I'm not a nurse.

Oh I agree that if its new onset than it should be dealt with ASAP. My perspective was from one of someone who has been dealing with this long term and ongoing (If I went everytime I had palpatations, Id live in the ER!....i've had 12 episodes on Palps and PVCs today!)

from the OP, I got the impression that she has had palpatations/PVCs before which led me to my response. But I could be completely off (been a long day!) But if this is new and/or she hasnt had a cardiac workup done before than I agree with the ER.

For peace of mind, you might want to go to the ER to have it checked out. I get palpitations a lot and find that it has a lot to do with my anxiety (which I take daily medicine for), if its around the time of my cycle or if I drink caffeine. Sometimes I get dizzy, most of the time I dont. I never get chest pain but yes, I agree it can become annoying.

Might be better to get it checked out than waiting

good luck

The thing is, when women have heart attacks they often experience vague symptoms of nausea, dizziness, fatigue,& shortness of breath. They often do not complain of the crushing chest pain that men frequently have. That's why it's important to get this checked. If it was *only* palpitations, I wouldn't be so concerned. I really hope the OP has headed to the ER now.

I get them due to my anxiety disorder and when I drink too much caffeine in a day (which doesnt take much for me). They used to be very bothersome and I had many tests done, but they have gotten better with my anxiety meds.

If this is brand new too you and especially if it accompanies other symptoms, I would go to the ER and get checked out just to be safe. HUGS!!!

Have you had a cardiac workup recently? Like an echocardiogram and ekg? I have a ridiculous amount of pvc's, especially around my period. For over 9 years now. My cardio dr. always says that pvc's don't mean a thing in a structurally normal heart. They feel very unsettling though, almost like a skipped beat and then my breath goes out a little and the next heartbeat feels a tad more forceful. It was explained to me that the chambers fill with blood but it isn't pumped out fully on the skipped beat so the next beat forces it out a bit harder. Totally benign in a structurally normal heart. Apparently most of the population has them it's just that some are symptomatic while others luckily are not. Go figure.

You've never "felt" them before though? You have a history of them but is this the first you're actually symptomatic? If so, I'd probably truck myself into the ER, just to play it safe. I'd be surprised if it was anything to worry about IMO but if it's really bothering you, then go.:)

oh yeah...I completely understand that. I know the differences between the symptoms women and men feel. Went over all of it with my cardiologist. But thats why I said FOR ME, I probably would not go because PVCs, Palpatations, feeling dizzy adn lightheaded are not unusual symptoms for me. If she feels the need to, she should go to the ER...but there are going to be differing opinons on it depending on the individual situation.

But thats also why I said if its concerning for her, she should go. Its different for each person adn everyone knows their body and whats normal for them (or at least they should). If its not normal for someone than of course they should get it checked. For me, its normal and if I went to the ER everytime it happened I'd live there (not that I don't already....)

As my cardiologist said, theres no one good answer for every person. It depends on the individual person on what they should do. For me, she doesn't recommend the ER everytime I have PVCs, palpatations, dizziness, etc. But for others she would. The OP asked for opinions...I gave mine based on my experience.

Well thank you for all your input. I fell asleep and woke up with a fever and chills. Looks like maybe they are because of this illness. I will be heading to urgent care tomorrow if they are still awful. Thank you all for everything.

i hope you'll be able to rest tonight.

get it all checked out tomorrow.

let us know how you are doing.

many here care about you and would like to know you are doing ok.

you sound like me earlier this week.

I was having insane amount of palpatations and PVCs this past weekend. Monday night I woke up sweating and chills. Tuesday I spiked a fever and stomach issues. Turns out...I have another stomach virus (just had one right after thanksgiving). I have had a fever and chills for 3 days now and am still having a lot of palpatations. But yeah...illness can definitley make it worse.

But glad you're going to urgent care tomorrow. Hope you feel better soon

Thank you guys so much for all your advice! I was up all night with a fever ranging from 102.8 to 103.5. I went to the md first thing this morning. My heart rate was through the roof, and they couldn't get my temp down with Tylenol. So off to the er I went. They hooked me up to an Iv, and after 3 bags of fluid I'm happy to report my heart rate has lowered and the fever is under 100! They tested me for mono And strep, both negative. It looks like dehydration was the nasty culprit!

I had my first serious bout of PVC's last spring late at night. Called the on-call nurse at my insurance company and she said to go immediately to the ER, in fact she was going to call an ambulance for me if I didn't have anyone to take me. They admitted me and kept me for a couple of days. Ran every test there was. Apparently PVC's are harmless UNLESS there is some underlying cause that should cause concerns. Luckily, I have the harmless kind (apparently a lot of women over 60 have them and never notice it). I was just told to lay off caffeine and take my blood pressure meds at night instead of in the morning. I still get get occasional spells of them, but if I get out of bed and run in place for a minute or two, it "shocks" my heart out of them and I can get back to sleep. Works for me.
