My DS (4th grade) resently took part in a Jump Rope For Heart, through his school. It is a fund raiser for the American Heart Association. The children raise money through pledges and take part in a jump roping contest/marathon. Apparently, if you raise over $150 you are entered in a WDW family vacation give-away.

Has anyone out there had their children take part in this? I guess it is a national fund raiser.

Has anyone out there ever won the vacation prize?

Feedback welcome!

My DD (3rd grade) has participated since Kindergarten and my DS jumped last year (4 yrs at the time) for the first time. They both plan to jump when our school holds our Jump rope for Heart on Mar. 20.

DD has earned enough pledges in the past to qualify for the drawing to WDW. However, luck has not been on our side.

The kids just love to take part in this day and to raise money for a good cause. They have a great time and learn that jumping rope is good exercise.

Good luck with the drawing. Somebody wins, just not us - yet.

I'm a 2nd year physical education teacher and this year will be the second year I've coordinated Jump Rope for Heart for my school. Actually this year we are doing Hoops for Heart which is the same fundraiser only the kids participate in basketball activities. It's a wonderful fund raiser for such a worthy cause. All of the phys ed staff has lost a family member to heart disease so it means more to us than just getting a little extra money for equipment. Our school has had great participation in the past and last year we raised close to 10,000 dollars. Not too bad for a school of 500. We had 15 students qualify for the drawing, but unfortunately can't say we've sent anyone to see the magic yet. Maybe this year.

I used to work at the Heart Association in the Jump Rope for Heart Support Team, I actually got to pick out of a hat the names of the kids that won in our area ( VA,MD,NC,SC) Pretty Cool. Each Affiliate gets to send two kids who have raised over $150. They do the contest for both Jump Rope and Hoops for heart.

It's a really great program, gets the kids doing something physical and they are really helping heart research with their fund raising.

Does anyone have info on the Hoops fund raising activity? I am a teacher and I work in A BIG basketball town. It sounds like the charity work for us. ( I lost my dad to heart disease when he was 51)

I looked up on the American Heart Website and the nearest number I could find for you to call is (207) 879-5700

Hoops for Heart is a great fundraiser and it really helps the Heart Association raise funds to fight heart disease
