Each room category would have at least a hearing accessible room.Okay, thanks. We did reserve a hearing accessible room. I had to pay for a higher tiered room though. I asked about a standard room at Boardwalk Inn and I was told there were no hearing accessible rooms available, but there was one available for a garden view. Not each room category will have a hearing accessible room.
One issue is that many of the wheelchair accessible rooms have the hearing accessible ‘package’ in them. So, if they are all booked by people who need wheelchair accessibility, there may be none left in a specific category.
They do have hearing accessible packages, but CMs checking guests in are probably not very familiar with them.
If you don’t get a room with hearing accessible features, you might have better luck contacting Engineering from your room phone since they would be the ones installing.
Not all CMs know ASL. Most characters know at least a few basic ASL signs. My DD is not deaf, but she is non-speaking and uses/understands some sign (her problem is she is physically disabled also, so her sign is hard to understand - she leaves out or modifies any parts that are hard for her.My younger brother is also deaf. Thank goodness the pandemic is over cause sometimes it is so tiring to deal with all these problems. Wearing masks, fewer job opportunities and etc. I own a podcast, so I always make sure it is accessible to deaf people by using podcast transcription services. There are many things that ordinary people don't have to deal with. But I very much hope that the pandemic will not return. However, he and I are traveling to WDW and we were thinking, about whether WDW workers know the ASL language or whether should we use speech-to-text apps.
CMs who speak a language other than English** have an additional piece on their name tag with a badge for each language they speak. This is a picture of a Disneyland one I found online, but they are similar in all Disney locations.
** or the official language of the country the park is in
