Hearing DJ's and bands prior to signing contract

I have what might be a strange question. How do you know if the DJ/band is good. Many, many years ago I got married and we went to weddings (sat in the bar area) to listen to the band to see if we wanted them or not. How do most of you hear the DJ/band prior to signing a contract with them?

That's a really good question. In the real world, yeah, you totally get to audition a band before hiring them, and maybe even a DJ, if s/he plays public gigs or will let you listen in on a wedding. At Disney, people seem to just pick based on reviews from other brides — I'm not sure DFTW even offers demo recordings for you to hear. All of the DJs Disney uses have their own websites, though, which may have videos that will give you an idea what their style is.
