Healthy Portable Park Snacks

Here's our basic list:
Goldfish crackers
beef jerky
granola bars (I make this recipe with variations on the fruits and nuts: http://witandwhistle.com/?p=1737 )
fruit strips (I like the 'ends&bits' bag from Trader Joe's...same stuff as the individually wrapped strips but way cheaper)
trail mix
dried fruit
pb sandwich (altho' dd complained it was too dry without honey)
apples

Hi everyone! What types of park snacks do you bring with you to the parks? I will be at a condo this year...offsite...:scared1:... and want to bring snacks with me since we won't have the luxry of hopping on a boat...or bus...or walking... back to the room for a snack break. I am not planning on using the lockers, but we will have a car that we could keep a cooler in. My concern, though, is even though we could put cold packs in one of those soft sided coolers that the summer heat will make the food spoil.

Now, we're vegetarians, so we wouldn't have to worry about meat spoiling, but I'm planning on having snacks in my park bag so I'm hoping for minimal smooshage. Any help would be GREAT!! :cool1:

pretzels!!

I always carry a few portable snacks like nuts, granola bars, fruit snacks, rice crispy treats because DD5 is a very small eater and needs extra calories. I want to be ready if she expresses the slightest interest. She lost 2lbs on our January vacation, she was just too distracted/excited/tired to eat. Also she didn't drink as much milk as she usually does, she mostly drank water because it's easier to carry around the park. We tried not to stress about her eating on vacation. She survived but still has not gained those 2lb back :sad2:

I'm reading this thread for ideas for next January. She has mostly fruits and veggies for snacks at home but she'll only eat them cut up with a fork :lmao: She doesn't like fruit salad because the fruit is mixed up together:scared1: We did bring grapes to the park (from the club lounge) and I tried to get her to eat them up before they got warm. I don't mind buying snacks, we were on the DxDDP in January and we are doing it again next January. But DD5 won't eat most "junk" food snacks and I like to have things immediately available. By the time we stand in line for ice cream/popcorn she'll take one lick/bite and be done.

Sorry if this is a repeat, I didn't read all the suggestions...

How about freezing G0-Gurt tubes. If you keep them in a cooler they will be thawed (perhaps even still slightly frozen) when you need them. I send them with my kids for school lunch. We don't use a cold pack, so they are thawed but still cold at lunch time. :thumbsup2

A few peanut butter companies now have individual serving packs (I've seen Peanut Butter & Company ones at Walmart & Justin's at our local health food store) - I usually take one of those and an apple, celery or banana. If I know I'll eat them in the morning, I'll take low fat cheese sticks or nonfat yogurt. Beyond that, I tend to stick to nuts and raisins.

Tomorrow we are taking gluten free brownies, though, so. :rotfl:

I've been known to slip a bagel with cream cheese or peanut butter into my bag before leaving. A bit more filling than some other snacks which can help stretch out the time in between meals.....

A couple other things I've brought when going to the parks for the whole day: homemade muffins or cookies (I bake up a batch before leaving home and bring them with me), the tiny little individual containers of salsa and some tortillas, the little snack size tuna/cracker packages, and last time I found some individual serving sizes of roasted red pepper dip and hummus that I took along with some crackers. If I'm bringing along a bottle of frozen water, I'll bring refrigerated things too, like little Babybel cheeses or individual yogurts/cottage cheeses.

I try to bring some different things that I'll enjoy so that I don't get bored with it and end up throwing it out and eating fast food every day!
