Healthy Living from the INSIDE OUT - May 2016 WISH Challenge

QOTD - May 11

It's woohoo Wednesday!!! Yay!

What are woohoos for the past week or so? Time to toot your horn and pass around the party hats!

Woke up late and am now paying the consequences. I'll be back later to make this post look pretty. :)

WooHoos today are getting in my exercise this week, the sun has finally returned here after the rainiest dreariest start of May ever, and I just exchanged my mothers day present. It was great but, the drawstring in the skort was broken and the shirt was cute, but super long, almost as long as the skort. I bought the same skort from Athleta last year and worried my extra 10 pounds would mean I needed to go up a size, but I am happy to report I did not. The same size still fits! I am starting to think maybe my physical therapist is on to something and at least some of the extra weight is muscle, and therefore good for me thats why the scale is staying so stable. But I know I am not always making good food choices, so I'm not entirely convinced...

Let's start with the woohoos:

- Obviously running my first official 5K was a big woohoo for me and meeting my original goal was a plus.

- I followed it up with a 3+ mile run on both Monday and Tuesday. Last night was a crazy busy evening - didn't get a chance to eat dinner until 8:30, but did a slower run outside last night at 9:00.

- I think my run last night gave me confidence to try running 6.2 miles this weekend. I slowed my pace to around 13+ minutes and felt like I could do another 3 miles. Looking forward to the challenge!

- I've been reading up on sprint triathlons and that might be my next goal. A sprint is a half mile swim, 12 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run. It will take some time to build to that, but my brother and I might try to do a super sprint on our own in a few weeks. Super sprint is .25 mile swim, 6.2 mile bike, and 1.5 mile run. There is a sprint here at the end of July, but we will be down at the Gulf Shores that week.

- 7 more school days and then it's summer break!

Now the boohoo:

- The weight hasn't been coming off lately. I've only lost 0.5 lbs over the past 6 days. I think it's because my routine has been so out of whack and even though my calories have been around the same, drinking 10 Ultra's on Saturday and having a slice of birthday ice cream cake on Sunday didn't help... just things that my body isn't used to. I've also had some late dinners which isn't normal. I hate eating and then sleeping 2 hours later. Hopefully when I get back in a routine, it'll start coming off again. I'm due for a big 1lb+ weight loss day!

So exciting getting that first race under your belt! Congratulations! Love that you are now looking ahead to the next challenge or challenges! 10k is my absolute favorite distance. It is long enough for me to really find my groove (usually around mile 3) but not so long I am drained at the end. I bet you will love it:) Sprint triathlons are great! I have done one and the thing I liked about it is that it is essentially built in cross training. Sprint distances can be a bit different depending who is putting them on. The swim can be anywhere form 1/4 to 1/2 mile - mine was a 1/3. The bike is usually at least 12, but can be up to 16. Mine was 15, and the run is usually a 5k, but I've seen them anywhere from 2.5 to 4 miles. Mine was a 5k.

The sprint triathlon I did was in Lake Winnipesaukee. Embarrassing but true story. One thing about tris, is if there is a big field, the swims can be hectic. My swim wave (women 35-39 a few years back) was the biggest and last to go. It was a swarm of people and I panicked with all the splashing and kicking. I kept going, but was doing the sidestroke trying to calm myself down. All of a sudden a woman who likely could see the fear in my face said to me, "You know it is super shallow here? You can probably stand." Sure enough, I could. Walked in the water for a minute, then resumed swimming and felt much better:) The bike was fine, crazy hilly at the foothills of the White Mountains, but I got through it. The run was my favorite. Interesting because back then I was not much of a runner - it was 2012. But my 5k was my fastest time ever to that point including training runs. Guess I just really wanted to be done:) It was after that tri that I shifted my focus to running. I love swimming, but open water is not my thing I learned. Biking is ok, but I don't like going alone, and my neighbor I liked going with moved. So running became my thing;) I have lots of friends who love tris and do many each summer. It is a great sport that really works all parts of your body, which is sort of like built in injury prevention.

As for your BooHoo, the weight will come off again! You've lost quite a lot pretty quickly, so there are bound to be slow downs in progress. The important thing is to remember its part of the journey and you will progress again. The other thing is if you increase your running rapidly, either intensity or distance, your body may hold on to weight just until it adjusts to your change in activity. Keep up the hard work and you will see the scale respond again:)

Well aren't you all chatty this this morning lots of new stuff already this morning. Was 10am when I started. Wow this has taken me 45 minutes. But no wonder I can't keep up. I probably can more for a bit. Until I get more clients or a new job anyway.

I worked my booty off at the gym last night. My friend was on the way text me she'd be there at 6:15. I live 10 minutes so shortly after 6 I leave and get there to see she had messaged me that she had to go back home for her key tag to get in. So I decide to get on the bike while I wait and did 20 minutes before she got there started on arm circuit(only got 2 sets in on the tricep machine) and we went back on bikes since treadmill was pretty full there were two but not next to each other so we could chat so we did bike for 30 minutes and then walked on treadmill. I did 45 minutes got in my 2 miles. Was aiming for 3 but with the bike time my legs were done. I'm up to 14.75 of my 50 mile goal for the month. I might just make it. I'm wanting to expand to 3 miles but I think that would take so much longer than an hour because I have to go back from 3.0 in intervals to recover. But when my pace quickens I will work at getting in 3 miles before strength. Leg days will be crazy though. Anyway, I worked out 95 minutes and burned over 800 calories the machines and MFP were really close on that burn too.

Another pound gone! I lost 10.5 lbs since I joined the April wish group. I am 9 ponds away from pre DH diagnosis weight (when my weight gains started). Feels exciting!

Things are slowing down but it will be awesome to have the remaining gone by end of June. Then the vanity 10 by end of September but to be honest I will be happy once the next 9 are gone
Woohoo on 10.5 lost. :) That is exciting, I'm sure.

Some days I hate technology - I had just written my post about my happy place and my computer wiped it :furious:

QOTD (again): My happy place relates to water - I love being by the beach but prefer swimming in a pool - so for me a lazy time on a tropical island with one of those fantastic pools with a view is perfection. My easier to get to happy place is called 'Cotton Tree' you all have heard me talk about it and post a pic previously. It is the beach/river area I exercise at with friends. Over the past 15 years it a place we regularly visit we have had birthday parties there, watched and played with my kids on the playground equipment, rode bikes and scooters along the wide pathways, had soccer and cricket games, took my kids to swimming lessons at the public swimming pool there, drank wine with friends, occasionally eaten at the upscale restaurant on the river's edge, made sandcastles. So many happy times. Here is a pic from this morning when I arrived at sunrise - we started with walking on the beach interspersed with abs, legs, back exercises until it was light enough to hit the water for a paddle. View attachment 167698

I like the sound and site of beaches but not the sand being everywhere or the seaweed brushing your legs/feet. YUCK. I prefer swimming areas I can see the bottom of so I imagine a pool overlooking the ocean would be a pretty happy place for me.

Sorry the pic is so big - paint would play with me tonight and save the resized pic properly!

@courtneybeth it will be Wednesday morning for you soon so here is your pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust: and good vibes :goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Goodnight from me.

If you upload to flickr(free) you can CHOOSE your size and no need to play around in paint. Especially if you forget to keep orgional sizes by saving as. I did that with pics at the start of my digital picture journey when dd was little. Needless to say I can't really print too many because I save for web size and now they don't have resolution to print well. So I keep them all size shot and use flickr for posting to web(which isn't that often anymore) where I can chose the size I want and not worry about sizing(with a save as of course) until I am ready to size for a printing. Sadly I don't print too many pics either. :(

Oh my GOSH.... my morning "me" time to spend with you all has been chiseled away by things like spilling salad dressing on my new capris when I was packing lunches, hanging out a load of laundry because it is FINALLY sunny around here, and accidentally ripping out 1/3 of my upper lashes on my right eye when the eyelash curler slipped!! Grrr.... what a morning!

Let me try to do a tiny bit of catching up.... I've got 10 minutes left!.........P

I love morning me time. It has been great that my job allows for that because I was working just 12:30-3:30 even if I didn't like the low 15 hour week paychecks, well 30 because I get paid biweekly. I get a little cranky if I don't have time to relax in the morning. But sound likes you are having the Mondays on Wednesday. :( Ouch on the eyelashes. Not a big make up person but scares me that my daughter curls hers sometimes. Not much lately but she bought a curler at this store in the mall with tons of accessories and it was cheap.

QOTD - May 11

It's woohoo Wednesday!!! Yay!

What are woohoos for the past week or so? Time to toot your horn and pass around the party hats!

Woke up late and am now paying the consequences. I'll be back later to make this post look pretty. :)

My woohoo for the day was I peaked at the scale and so far down a little so hope it increases a bit more by Friday though. :) I got to sleep in an extra 30 minutes or so this morning since every wednesday is "late" start for my daughter by 30 minutes. It was good because I was up a little late last night. Aiming to get 8-9 hours of sleep tonight and tomorrow, hoping I'm able to get to bed early Friday. We are leaving probably 6-7am for San Diego. My daughter is wanting to go earlier but we can't even check in the hotel until 3pm.

I have a few woohoo's this week. I have gained back the .6 pounds I lost last week. I am working hard for the my official weigh in on Friday. So here are my wooHoo's.

1. We got our Magic Bands for Our trip. 24 more days until check in

View attachment 167710

2. I got this shirt this week for our trip. I need to flatten my stomach just a little bit for it to look good. I have started doing sit ups and I continue to do my back exercises on the work out ball (it is more for your core muscles then the back).

Nice I'm wanting to make it to Florida and Disney World late in the year but not sure it will happen. I am probably going to be in a new job soon so it would be depending on if I could get the time off. Even unpaid if need be. I don't know what vacation time my brother will have and we'd be driving. Oh that is a long, long drive. Ahh But I would be excited to get magic band. I need to read more about them.

mine are - lost a pound
A holiday that I didn't really want to go to was cancelled (long story) and I will get what I paid (flights + booking for the hotel) back! Kind of odd but I am happy about it
Yay!! on the pound. Sounds like the holiday cancelled isn't a big deal and so glad you get the money back.

Way to go on 5K. I haven't run one. I did a 5K walk many years ago for Autism with a friend. Did pretty well just walking. Never even thought to time myself just walked. They didn't have fancy phones and apps then. LOL Sprint sounds fun. I love all three events. Swimming a half mile sounds exhausting to me because I know after one or two laps of olympic sized pool I have to rest. Biking 12 miles doesn't sound too bad but I know my legs can do it my tushie is another story. Running just isn't gonna work for me yet. But I can't wait to run again. I did at the end of high school and really loved it.

QOTD Yesterday - I am at Trunk Bay on St. John. I love it there. It's just a beautiful beach and if I'm there, that means I'm on vacation with my family. The Caribbean in general makes me happy for those reasons!

QOTD today:
I have several woo-hoo's today:

1. the scale showed 199.9 today (it was 199.7 on Friday, then up over 200 on Saturday - now it's back down), which made me very happy!

2. An even bigger woo-hoo is that I measured my waist this morning and it has gone down another inch. For whatever reason, I am overly focused on getting seeing my waist at 35 inches or below. I know it's just a number like everything else, but I am definitely striving to get my waist to that magic number since everything I read says that a woman's waist above 35 inches puts her at increased risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, etc. Today it was 36 inches on the nose. Getting there . . . getting there . . .

3. Non scale woo-hoo: I get to check my family in for our cruise this morning! I got an email that the documents are ready for me to fill out! I get so excited for these baby steps to vacation!
Woohoo! teetering on onederland and inches gone are great means closer to a new smaller size too. :) Plus the added bonus to reduce risks of health issues.

This entire week has been one great big magical woohoo. I am so grateful to be feeling better and to have the stamina to keep going and do all the things I wanted to on this trip.

Yesterday was my down day, I just did one park... Ha ha. I finally made it to the right side of MK, something I've skipped the past few trips. Rode Astro Orbitor for the first time ever, probably a one and done, but it is done now. Spent the afternoon at Ft Wilderness, a couple hours of which was archery class which was really fun. I accidentally hit the bullseye with the first two arrows! I ate at Trails End and for the second time was stuffed to the point of being uncomfortable, so I'm really cutting back on the food for these last few days.

This morning was the walk to France morning, so quiet and peaceful.

Jealous of you there. HEHE I haven't gone since 2009. And the other parks been even longer. If we don't make it this Oct or Dec then sometime next year I will make it down and finally get my dd to other parks besides just MK.

@courtneybeth Sending tons of pixie dust your way today! pixiedust:

Woohoos for today:
- It's our anniversary today and we have a nice dinner planned!
- I planned ahead on this and had a light breakfast and packed a light snack and light lunch so I can save my calories for tonight!
- We head to the WDW in 15 days! Not excited for Memorial Day crowds, but I don't care. DFIL is closing our store for the whole weekend and Monday so 3 Disney days trumps 2 days hands down!

Happy anniversary!! 15 days wow. You'll be in single digits days before you know it.

My woohoo for today:

The scale moved!! I am still feeling very puffy, but the scale is nearly down to my start weight of the month. So, now I am hoping that once the puffiness disappears (and that should happen any day now), I might see a significant weight loss.

My underwear is starting to feel very loose... The bra is in the innermost hooks! Not looking forward to the expense of buying new underwear though... Especially not before I am at my goal weight!!
Yay!! Sounds like water retention maybe. I hate bra shopping but its probably because I need odd size normal C cup but bigger bands are hard to find. argh

Sorry to hear that you're struggling ... sending along some pixiedust:. I hope things get better soon!

Happy Anniversary! Enjoy your dinner!

---

No woohoos for me right now. Maybe later I'll sit down and think about it, but right now I'm tired. Time to make some coffee ... even though I wasn't planning on having any. I think I need to give up this "I don't want to start drinking coffee every day" thing of mine. Grr.
Here's a mini-woohoo: I skipped Haagen-Dazs free scoop day yesterday. And I was right outside the store right before it started (it's right by the bus stop closest to my library) - I could have easily gotten in line and gotten my scoop, but I decided that it wasn't worth the calories. Smart decision, because we ended up having pizza for dinner.
Hopefully I'll be back post-coffee with more WooHoos.

I'm still waking up myself. I'm caffeine free so no help there not really by choice either(aggravates my anxiety issues). LOL I gotta do some housework and make a phone call I'm dreading it. I hate making calls. I guess that is why I had yet to call around and work at buying a new(to me) car. But just want to relax a bit more.

Sounds great that you have found so much enjoyment with those runs! And the triathlon sounds like a fun idea, too!! However, make sure that you don't increase your mileage too quickly as that could lead to running injuries. And the last thing you want to do is getting a stress fracture in your foot which will prevent you from most exercise for several weeks! I think it is recommended that you don't increase running distance for more than a certain percentage of your current mileage every week (not sure what the percentage is, but there is lots of information to be found). You might be fit enough from a cardio-vascular point of view for the longer distances, but your bones and tendons still need to adjust as well. I think many runners have learned it the hard way that their bodies are not as forgiving once they are over 30 as they used to be when one was 23... Not sure how old you are, but I got the impression that you are starting to belong to the age group that needs to be a bit more careful!

This is true and good advice. The percentage generally given is approximately 10%. So if you do three 3 mile runs per week, you should not add more than 1 mile the next week. So you could go 3-3-4, you can then go 3-4-4 or 3-3-5. If you want to add a whole extra day, you would reduce mileage on a day to make up the difference. so you might to 2-2-3-3, then 3-2-3-3- then 3-3-3-3. As someone who has had her fair share of overtraining injuries, I would highly suggest building mileage carefully.

Oh and pixiedust: for @courtneybeth !

Good morning everyone! I haven't been on in a while and I'm just popping in to bow out of this month's challenge. I have some not so great personal things going on right now and it's just throwing me for a mental loop. I'll probably still lurk and hopefully I'll be back next month!

Sorry to hear you are struggling  we will be here when you are ready to come back ....

I like the sound and site of beaches but not the sand being everywhere or the seaweed brushing your legs/feet. YUCK. I prefer swimming areas I can see the bottom of so I imagine a pool overlooking the ocean would be a pretty happy place for me.

I totally get this - we don't get a lot of seaweed here really - but when things brush me I freak out lol - add to that eyes stinging from the salt water - its a wonder its my happy place - but it totally is lol I feel calmer when I am BY the ocean not necessarily IN it if you know what I mean - that's why I would rather swim in a pool.

Woohoo for the week - I don't have many as I feel like I am way off track at the moment but I got back to exercising yesterday - which was good.

Hi all - it has been a long sad day today - I awoke earlier than usual for some reason just before 6am and couldn't get back to sleep - so sat quietly in the lounge room whilst the kids slept - then I got the phone call about 7.30 to tell me my much loved Aunty had passed away in hospital this morning just after 6am. A very sad day, she will be missed greatly. We had a wonderful last visit last month when she was in hospital then - but she was still cheeky (telling me there were some good looking men at x-ray and I should go pick one up! lol). I got to tell her I loved her - so glad. So I will be out of the loop for few days next week when we head to the funeral.

I am very sorry for your loss! I remember you writing about that last visit. At least you got to do that. And I hope that the funeral will give you all a proper occassion to celebrate her life and all the joy she brought to her family!

Just coming to do a big Whoo Hooo!

Me and my son are going for 9 nights in my favorite canary (Spanish) island in 20 days! Got a great deal and jumped on it! It will be first holiday without hubby but he is busy starting new job and I got amazing deal, I couldn't resist!

doing a mini happy dance - I love this place

Ok, I will try and catch up with some of the posts that I wanted reply to but never did...

I :lovestruc cruising too! I've never cruised Disney, but love all of them that we've been on. We're doing the NCL Hawaiian islands cruise this summer!

The NCL Hawaii cruise sounds awesome! My boyfriend did this cruise some time ago (before we met) and still talks about it as one of his best cruises! Which lines have you cruised with? I have only cruised on DCL so far, but am looking at other lines, too. I would love to find a good deal for a European cruise (because it will be cheaper to get there for me) next summer on either Princess or NCL. The BF has cruised a lot (living in Florida he has a lot of access to the very cheap deals a lot of lines offer last minute) and I would love to catch up.

Hi all. I'm back - although I'm not sure I was ever really hear last time. I hardly have time lately to post or check in. I really need to regain focus and start making time for myself even if it is five or 10 minutes just to do a reality check.

Welcome back!! I find that trying to check in here at least once a day really helps be staying accountable! So, come back more frequently, we are happy to have you!!

My brother has become a Medifast health coach and is really trying to talk me into trying it. I'm tempted just to help him out. I know several people who have done it and had great success while on it. my attitude is just using it for a jumpstart for maybe a month. AnyWho I hope to check in more. Good luck everyone.

Usually I do not believe in formula diets. However, I don't think it would do you any harm IF you keep in mind that it is just for a short period of time and IF you make sure to have a plan on how to proceed afterwards. I am not sure I could ever give up my normal meals for something fluid. Hell, I don't even consider a smoothie a meal, only a drink. That's why I never have them, too many calories for a drink. It sounds like you have those IFs covered though. And if you want to help your brother out, this might be not a bad thing.

A holiday that I didn't really want to go to was cancelled (long story) and I will get what I paid (flights + booking for the hotel) back! Kind of odd but I am happy about it

I can understand this! I have had invitations to parties that originally I was very enthusiastic about and then dreaded to go to. So, I can see the same happening with a vacation as well.

3. Non scale woo-hoo: I get to check my family in for our cruise this morning! I got an email that the documents are ready for me to fill out! I get so excited for these baby steps to vacation!

Another cruiser!! Where are you cruising?

Good morning everyone! I haven't been on in a while and I'm just popping in to bow out of this month's challenge. I have some not so great personal things going on right now and it's just throwing me for a mental loop. I'll probably still lurk and hopefully I'll be back next month!

I am sorry to hear that life is so difficult at the moment! Feel free to pop in any time with a comment even if you are not part of the challenge and otherwise I hope lurking will be helpful to stay at least a little bit on track!

Yay!! Sounds like water retention maybe. I hate bra shopping but its probably because I need odd size normal C cup but bigger bands are hard to find. argh

Yes, I have big issues with water retention. And I have a very similar problem as you: even when I am at a normal weight, I still need a large band, but small cups. Very difficult to get!

I worked my booty off at the gym last night. My friend was on the way text me she'd be there at 6:15. I live 10 minutes so shortly after 6 I leave and get there to see she had messaged me that she had to go back home for her key tag to get in. Well done!!

Oh also wanted to share this in wake of the Biggest Loser study which is discouraging at large but not so much if you break down what they are actually doing its no shock to me they damage their metabolism.

http://www.vox.com/2016/5/10/11649210/biggest-loser-weight-loss

Thank you for sharing this!! This is a great article! Everyone else: go read it if you haven't done yet!!!

There are two quotes that I think are really important and the key issue:

"Looking to my experiences working with thousands of patients over the course of the past dozen years, it's clear that liking the life you're living while you're losing weight is the key to keeping it off."

"So what does that goal post look like? The term I coined to describe it is "best weight," where your best weight is whatever weight you reach when you're living the healthiest life that you actually enjoy."

I usually think of it that my lifestyle must be sustainable - and this is exactly what he is saying: Only a lifestyle that makes me happy can be something that I keep up for the rest of my life. I think that we can learn to be happy with certain things that at first we thought we would hate. So, it is not about just staying put where you are because you say that you don't want to cut down on your sugary drinks and pizza three times a week. I think the emphasis has to be to try to find the healthiest lifestyle with which we are still happy. And that includes experimenting with things that we then find out that they don't make us happy.

Hi everyone - thanks for the cake pops and pixie dust. As I get more information I'll share but--- it felt great to have you all with me in spirit.

:jumping1:

Sounds like some happy news are imminent!!

I got the phone call about 7.30 to tell me my much loved Aunty had passed away in hospital this morning just after 6am. A very sad day, she will be missed greatly. We had a wonderful last visit last month when she was in hospital then - but she was still cheeky (telling me there were some good looking men at x-ray and I should go pick one up! lol). got to tell her I loved her - so glad. So I will be out of the loop for few dIays next week when we head to the funeral.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's lovely you got to tell her that you love her

Half of my clothes are huge, the other half too small! It's nightmare but I don't want to spend too much

I hate to admit but i make good use of my sports underwear. I will buy cuter things in few months

Hi! I need a favor!

I was unexpectedly called to the hinterlands for a few days (for work, all is well) and have basically no personal internet access. Could someone post a QOTD for today, tomorrow, and the weekend?

I'll be back on Monday and will post mood Monday plus our week 2 results.

Thank you!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs to you and your family.

Yes, I can do this!! No problem!!

Ok, since @DisPup75 is offline here is today's

QOTD:

Since the article that @Zoesmama03 posted was so inspiring (here is the link again: http://www.vox.com/2016/5/10/11649210/biggest-loser-weight-loss) for me and the one thing that spoke to me was the idea that it is important to find the healthiest lifestyle that you can be happy with:

What changes have you made to your lifestyle that you are happy with despite thinking that this is something you would not be able to do or would not enjoy to do? And if you haven't yet made any change that falls into this category, do you have an idea of what change you would like to try out?

Thanks Flossbolna

I stopped telling myself that it will be hard, that I just love all food sooo much, that I will always struggle. That I am a foodie and that I enjoy eating large portions of not so healthy food.

And let myself focus on what the healthy food I love and enjoy
